Value Education

...Importance of Value Education in Modern time Beena Indrani* Everyone knows that life is precious – that life is important. We all protect our life because we care for it more than anything else. If life is so important, the values of life are even more important. Values are guiding principles, or standards of behaviour which are regarded desirable, important and held in high esteem by a particular society in which a person lives. "The Importance of Values and Morals are the code we live by in a civil and just society. They are what we use to guide our interactions with others, with our friends and family, in our businesses and professional behaviour. Our values and morals are a reflection of our spirituality; our character. They are what we hope to model for our children and the children around us, because children do watch us as they develop their own sense of right and wrong. Value education means inculcating in the children sense humanism, a deep concern for the wellbeing of others and the nation. This can be accomplished only when we instill in the children a deep feeling of commitment to values that would build this country and bring back to the people pride in work that brings order, security and assured progress. A person with proper values will not be afraid to face problems. He or she will expect and accept them as part of life. Mah Ferguson Analysis

...Amidst the protests regarding student deaths like Michael Brown, a light shines on segregated school districts in cities, and it is evident from student successes that a proper education is a key to success. The power of a proper education is astounding, and yet the political machines rarely aid education reform. Themes in The Wire, The Other Wes Moore and “School Segregation, the Continuing Tragedy of Ferguson” all showcase the importance of education in every single child’s life. Both Wes Moore and Mah’Ria showcase the importance of a proper education in squelching racial oppression. Because of the terrible school system in Normandy, the government transported Mah’Ria to Francis Howell every day, yet parents still wanted to end the program because the “issue [was not] about race, but trash,” comparing students like Mah’Ria––an honors student–– to garbage. Parental complaints resulted in students needing a court order to return to the school (18). The whole situation showcases the incredibly segregated mannerisms of the white population in the Ferguson county, yet Mah’Ria and her colleagues help to break the innate racism in the city simply by going to school. She returned to Francis Howell with a court order, and she thrived, paving the way for more students to transfer to better schools. Similarly, students attack Wes Moore because of the color of his skin, but he still manages to thrive because his military academy teaches him the importance of self-respect. One night Wes...

Educational Issues

...The Bridge Program The Bridge program aimed to produce high quality educated students. The proponents of this program found a huge problem with the incoming first year students since most of them were not yet ready to enter the higher level of education. They conducted a HSRT or the High School Readiness Test wherein they set a standard or a required cut off score. The ones whom successfully passed the test could probably proceed and could take the regular four years in high school. While the ones whom flunked would probably be staying 5 years in high school since their first year would be their uplifting period. They will be taught some of the subjects in elementary so whenever they will be entering the first year or the regular high school, they’ll be more ready. Somehow, I commend the idea of this program since all they wanted is to produce adequate and quality education. They don’t want to take risks in letting the students to enter the higher education if they weren’t yet ready. But the idea itself is somehow risky in the part of the students because they will spend another year in high school. Without this program I know that the goal of having an adequate and quality education will still be attained because there are many options of alternative ways in fabricating educated and learned students. They could still attain this goal in a way of imparting efficient and adequate knowledge. This program is indeed risky because it will be needed more classrooms, books and teachers...

Education Curriculum in India Has Stopped Producing Intellectuals

...world dominated by ignorant people. It was India that realized the importance of aspects of life other than filling the stomach and covering the bodies, man is a special animal, special because of the grey matter God provided and it was India that by promoted free and radical thinking helped in quenching the thirsty brains. But on comparing the past with the present we find a sharp contrast in terms of the quality of intellectuals produced by the country, in the mad race for materialism it seems that the basic fundamentals that made us a great country are being trampled underfoot. Intellects are people who see the world from a different perspective and on the larger canvas. It is such people who contribute to the world hence moving it in a progressive direction as is a saying ‘Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people’. The intellectual growth of a person begins right from childhood when he starts to develop a thinking brain, when he questions the different aspects of life and the process continues till the individual survives so the primary reason for the stark decline in the level of intellect has to be improper foundation and upbringing in terms of the type and style of education bestowed upon them. Nowadays, due to the education curriculum in practice, a lot of emphasis is given on the bookish knowledge, be it the class works or the strenuous homework, a student is confined to the boundaries of books and is restricted by the deadlines...

Importance of Physical Education in Elementary Schools

...Importance of Physical Education in Elementary Schools Importance of Physical Education in Elementary Schools Chris Williams ECE 315 Terri Malone June 6, 2011 Importance of Physical Education in Elementary School Physical education is sometimes viewed as merely a chance for students to have fun, get the wiggles out. The fact is physical education is so much more important to the health and well being of all children. A strong physical education program can strongly promote students to be active and healthy through out their life time. Having an adequate physical education program can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, increase a child self esteem, prevent childhood obesity, and increase test scores in children. Regular physical activity is associated with a healthier longer life and with a lower risk of heart disease. “Current recommendations are for children to engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day (www.everdaychoices.org)”. Children spend over half of their day at school, so it’s reasonable to require that they should get at least 30 minutes of that time at school. Heart disease is a growing epidemic among Americans. Laying down a foundation that encourages children to get physical helps reduce the risk of them developing this disease later in life. In a systematic review of physical education programs over a six month time frame showed that exercise program...
