February 11, 2014 was the day I was due to have my first child. Every day I went to appointments to see my gynecologist to check my body’s progress and my daughter’s heartbeat. After my due date pasted Dr. Lowden told me I needed to be induced. We scheduled an induction for the eighteenth of February. Suffering from a bleeding disorder made me mortified of having an induction because the risk of an emergency caesarian section increased. Pacing the rooms of my house alone my mother arrived to take me to the hospital for my induction. Being as scared as I was I had procrastinated packing the bags for the stay. I hurried with my bags and we left for Wesley. Sitting in the parking lot, eating what felt like my last meal, I asked my mother if we could just go home instead. She insisted that I must have my unborn daughter, no matter how scared I was. We headed into labor and delivery in the regular hospital, instead of the birth center. Since I was a bleeding risk I had to deliver in the regular hospital so I would be closer to the blood bank. …show more content…
I was no longer allowed to eat and they were starting my first step to labor with a Foley bulb. While the bulb was trying to trick my body into labor, I was in the worst pain of my life. Wincing and rolling back in forth in bed, I began to cry. With no luck with the first step, they went to the next step of beginning a Pitocin drip to start my contractions. Luckily for me I was told as soon as I started to feel pain I was allowed to have an epidural. When I felt the slightest pinch of pain I called for the nurse and the anesthesiologist arrived shortly. After two tries the anesthesiologist hit the right spot in my spine and started the drip to numb my body. Dr. Lowden and my nurse came next and broke my

 12/03/2015 Thus far in Energy Conversion and Principles, the topics of direct current, or DC, and synchronous motors have been covered and discussed. A direct current exists in the field windings of both of these motors and an alternating current, or AC, exists in the armature windings of both of these motors. Electrical power is delivered right to the armature of a DC motor using a commutator, or the moving part of the rotary, in these motors. Because of this, a DC motor with this type of connection can also be referred to as a conduction motor. Conversely, if a motor receives power by induction, rather than by conduction, the motor is called an induction motor. An induction motor is therefore a type of transformer that possesses a rotary secondary winding. As discussed previously, both DC and synchronous motors are doubly-fed. An induction motor, however, is a singly-fed motor. With these motors being singly-fed, the construction of is different than that of other motors. These motors do not require slip-rings, a commutator, or brushes. With these components absent from induction motors, it is thus seen that there are no moving contacts between the stator and rotors, which is obviously quite different than the structure of DC and synchronous motors. Hazelton University of Western Australia Abstract: Automatic vehicle detectors are now common on road systems across the world. Many of these detectors are based on single inductive loops, from which data on traffic volumes (i.e. vehicle counts) and occupancy (i.e. proportion of time during which the loop is occupied) are available for 20 or 30 second observational periods. However, for the purposes of traffic management it is frequently useful to have data on (mean) vehicle speeds, but this is not directly available from single loop detectors. While detector occupancy is related in a simple fashion to vehicle speed and length, the latter variable is not measured on the vehicles that pass. In this paper a new method for speed estimation from traffic count and occupancy data is proposed. By assuming a simple random walk model for successive vehicle speeds an MCMC approach to speed estimation can be applied, in which missing vehicle lengths are sampled from an exogenous data set. Unlike earlier estimation methods, measurement error in occupancy data is explicitly modelled. The proposed methodology is applied to traffic flow data from Interstate 5 near Seattle, during a weekday morning.
