Influencing Above and Below The ability to influence your boss and your subordinates is a critical skill to be successful. When attempting to advance or gain more responsibility within your organization, you will need to have influence with your superiors to recommend you for advancement. It is a similar thought process for influencing your subordinates at work. Seeing both of these types of people as potential allies is always a good first step. How you treat these people will depend on what steps you take to influence them. When influencing your supervisor, what steps will you take? Akai is my direct supervisor and work. He is fairly new to the position and his team has been expanded to nearly double the size he had a few weeks ago. He is eager and willing to assist his subordinates which will allow me to influence him if I find a better position in the company. I will need to work hard, meet my goals, and show him that I am able to handle more responsibility. According to Cohen and Brandford (2005), the approach to influencing your supervisor is handled in four steps; first see your boss as a potential ally or partner, then make sure you understand your boss’s world, then be aware of the resources, or currencies you currently have or need to acquire, and finally pay to how your supervisor wants to be related to. These are the basic steps to helping gain influence with your supervisor. These steps are good ways to gain influence with my supervisor. I will also make sure I am attempting to gain new skills on my personal time. This will add to the currencies part of the relationship.

There are many factors that influence this heat budget, some of which are more important than others. In this essay I am going to describe and explain each factor involved. Insolation is the incoming energy from the sun in shortwave ultraviolet (UV) radiation. The distribution of insolation over the Earth’s surface is complicated; however there are patterns to be seen. Insolation has numerous aspects to it that each affects it in turn, which are divided into three categories of long term, short term and local. Quite possibly the most important aspect is latitude, a long term factor. The effect of latitude on the heat budget can be seen all over the globe, but the most striking examples are that the annual amount of insolation in the Arctic region, located 66° north of the equator, is 75 W/m2 however it is 275 W/m2 in Egypt, located 26° north of the equator. Latitude holds such a large effect on insolation because a variation in latitude means variations in the altitude of the sun. Altitude of the sun affects insolation because as the angle of the sun in the sky decreases and becomes more oblique, the land area to be heated up by the rays and the depth of atmosphere they must travel through increase.
