Installation of Self Check Out Machines By Retailers

The reasons leading to retailers installing self check out machines are varied; during and after the global economic crises there has been an upsurge by retail stores across the board to embrace this new check out system. The factors that have led to this are, there has been an increase in competition among retail stores which has led to them to become more conscious of their expenditure, this means that the retail stores and markets, are able to cut back on their staff by reducing the number of human cashiers at their outlets . Customers are also becoming more conscious on what and how they spend their hard earned money, and, require that the products or goods that they purchase offer both quality and value for the money spent.

Customers also prefer to use the self checkout machines, the reason being that in most of the market and retail stores, which have these machines they reduce the checkout time by up to forty percent which means shorter checkout lines and faster customer transactions. (Patrick Thibodeau. Computer World. 2013).

The reduction in time spent while shopping by the customers has lead to an enhanced positive customer experience. In the United States 20to 25 percent of the pay roll in retail is spent on cashiering and the functions that are associated with it, therefore, the reduction in the number of human cashiers in the retail outlets has also meant savings for the markets and retail stores which in turn is translated in discounts offered to their customers. (Aravindh Vanchesan. Global leadership Assessment .2013)

.Retailers are also able to reorganize their work force so that they can place more effort, in departments within the

...simulation Study Pilkington Library Main Issuing Desk Abstract: This paper investigates the activity of the main issuing desk at the 3rd floor of Pilkington Library during weekdays between 5 and 6pm. The aim is to find ways of minimizing queuing times and respond to flexibility in demand. Two sets of data have been analysed and transposed into a simulation study using the Simul8 software package. The results of the simulation are presented in support of our optimization proposals. Introduction With more than 370,000 books issued last year, serving almost 15,000 users which made up to 600,000 enquires, the Pilkington Library is definitely one of the busiest place on campus especially when it gets near the examination period. Marketing Issues

...Buying a computer in the post, petrol at a supermarket, mortgages over the phone and phones themselves from vending machines are just some innovations in distribution which create competitive advantage as customers are offered newer, faster, cheaper, safer and easier ways of buying products and services. Without distribution even the best product or service fails. Author Jean-Jacques Lambin believes a marketer has two roles: (1) to organise exchange through distribution and (2) to organise communication. Physical distribution, or Place, must integrate with the other 'P's in the marketing mix. For example, the design of product packaging must fit onto a pallet, into a truck and onto a shelf; prices are often determined by distribution channels; and the image of the channel must fit in with the supplier's required 'positioning'. You can see how Coca Cola further integrate the timing of distribution and promotion in the Hall Of Fame later. In fact, they see distribution as one of their "core competencies". Distribution is important because: Firstly, it affects sales - if it's not available it can't be sold. Most customers won't wait. Secondly, distribution affects profits and competitiveness since it can contribute up to 50 percent of the final selling price of some goods. This affects cost competitiveness as well as profits since margins are squeezed by distribution costs. Thirdly, delivery is seen as part of the product influencing customer satisfaction. Distribution...
