Intern communicatie onderzoek ‘Apple’
Apple maakt haar producten waar simpelheid voorop staat.

Goals

...Goal Inventory Assignment In ten years, I want to be working in the human resources department at Texas Instruments. I specifically want to be an HR Business Generalist because it is more closely tied to the business and business strategy at Texas Instruments than some of the other human resources jobs there are. This position seems like it would be a great fit for me because I am extremely interested in the business strategy of a company and how the people working for the company can directly influence how successful a business is. I want to be in Dallas, Texas at Texas Instruments’ main office where I can get the most enriching experience. However, after I have learned as much as I can at the Dallas office and when I am comfortable with my position, I want to move to the Houston office because Houston is where I grew up and it is where I want to raise a family. In five year, I want to be working in the human resources department at Texas Instruments. I want to start out in their Compensation position within the HR department. My major is in accounting and I like to work with numbers, so I believe the Compensation position would be a good starting point for me. I have also been advised that this position is a great HR position to begin with, especially if you want to work your way to the HR Business Generalist position, because you learn a lot about the company and their financing. I would like to be in the Dallas office, because this is Texas Instrument’s main office...

...May 1st, 2015   Michelle Kyriakides Career Services Director, Experimental Learning Saint John’s University 8000 Utopia Parkway Queens NY 11439  Dear Ms. Kyriakides, It is in the nature of Saint John’s University to always enhance, educate and strive for excellence in all aspects. Career Services is a vital department of the university that is not being used to its fullest potential. While a number of students are continuing to graduate with a diploma of academic success, many still are not prepared for the real world. Majority of students spending an entire semester absorbing lectures and solely taking notes, to simply be tested. This does not qualify as a complete educational experience. While learning through lectures and studying is important, it should not encompass a hundred percent of a college semester. This repetitive form of learning is not thoroughly benefiting students. There is a significant piece of the puzzle that is absent from the university: Experience. I am calling this issue to your attention because a project of this scale would need funding from the department. Using the program “Applied Education”, designed to combine coursework and fieldwork into a holistic educational experience could be a benefit to you. I understand that you assure SJU students are receiving the best advice to compete in today's global marketplace. It was through your innovative new model, that the university has significantly increased student engagement with Career...

Once the spreadsheet is compiled, a team of laboratory experts and myself will go through the tests to set criteria on which test is allowed to be done in-house and which tests need to be sent to the CPA lab or the Ancillary Lab. From this project, I will be able to determine the expenses and reimbursement rates to help vet the test menu. The intern program also consists of weekly “Coffee Clutches”. This one-hour sessions gives us the chance to meet and mingle with Norton Administrators. The first week, we met the Rev. Ron Oliver. He talked a great deal about work-life balance and how to embrace opportunities. The next week, we met Al Cornish, the Chief Learning Officer. During this meeting, we learned about the importance of learning and the free benefits to employees by Norton University. Through this past month, my favorite part has been meeting with everyone including the intern team. I have enjoyed getting to know students who come from different backgrounds from me. Of course, having two of my classmates on the team does not hurt either. I look forward to the camaraderie that develops this...

Business Ethics

...Organizational Behavior Audrey Locke is a summer intern for a very successful North American company of Brussels and Bradshaw Investment Bank. As it seems in most organizations, the new guy, or girl in this case, is often subject to treatment that can be misunderstood as abusive. Those that are in positions within an organization see this as ‘weeding out the week’. From the view point of Audrey and other past interns, it can be seen as unnecessary and disheartening. For those that are intent on making a future in investments, it seems that you are going to have to learn how to adjust. In fact, Blake Cooper, one of the managing partners of the Toronto Office with Audrey is performing her internship at stated “We cannot afford to get soft on our people by listening to analysts whine and complain about each other. Once you start, where does it stop? They’ll figure out how to get along on their own if you let them. These are professionals. We are all here to make money and the only way to make money in this business is to work together. Those that want to get ahead will recognize that – and those are the people we want at Brussels and Bradshaw.” (Hitt, Miller, Colella, 2011) Issues and Recommendations It seems that this situation of being stepped on is not going to change. Since this seems to be a companywide pandemic, it is going to take a ton of pressure from the top and directive to stay on course to change the fact that summer interns are the workhorses for the office space. With...

...would have graduated from high school and gone straight to slave labor. This way, I could have saved all the time and money I spent on my education. Another disappointment with the internship seems to be that I am the only one I know of who has yet to be trained in more that one area. I work in the character room at Magic Kingdom and only know the operations of that room. I do not know any parade, show, or even how to work with the fairies. There may be different tracks in the room, but I will be doing laundry/soil for hours each day. When I spoke with two different managers I was told that ‘you have to talk to the costuming manager because I can’t do anything.’ So I emailed him and got told that I am on a list. A list! I am an intern that is only here for 5 months and I am already past half way through my time here. I do not have much longer and cannot afford to be put on a...

Internship Culture

...Proposal: To set up a National Internship Programme (NIP) and covert the existing Jobsbridge scheme into this framework. Overview The Jobsbridge scheme was primarily designed to help all who had difficulty in obtaining paid employment for more than 3 months. This was to be done by reserving a significant number of positions to only be applied for those who had been in receipt of social welfare payments for more than 3 months. In addition to this overarching aim, in my view an additional underlying motivation behind the Jobsbridge could be seen in it enabling young graduates to gain a foothold on the career ladder where they did not have the requisite practical work experience to make them an attractive option for many employers. This lack of work experience was an especial detriment in the jobs market as the impact of the recession was making itself known. Not only did the recession lessen the number of jobs available it also increased competition for those jobs as a large number of redundancies across the economy brought a large number of applicants for positions who had many years of experience in their sector. Young graduates were forced to compete for fewer entry level positions against those who had many years of experience in the particular sector and who were available to pursue these entry level positions due to redundancy. Maintain the existing criteria for Jobsbridge with some exceptions: 1) the nature of the applicant; 2) extension of the internships available;...

Good Hall Internship Report

...On Monday the 10th of October, Good Hall hosted the internship seminar event. They provided major specific rooms with various speakers who talked about how they found their internship, their experiences there, what they enjoyed and learned, and any advice they have for freshman those interested in interning. I went to a biology focused discussion group and listened to Shannon Brumbaugh- Altoona Family Physicians, Gayle Gottlieb- Dental Assistant, Elijah Hall- IE in Boulder through REU in the mountains, Mark Lee- Spanish Emersion at a local hospital in Orizaba, Mexico, and Kelsey Pfau- Research in Neonatology. I actually enjoyed hearing their brief overview of their experiences and feel more interested in applying for an internship in the future. They informed us that two of the best ways to become informed about internship opportunities were through Career Services in the Ellis basement and email networking. After the event, I did receive an email from Lindsey Levy with Health Professions regarding upcoming opportunities. One of the listed internships from the email was Altoona Family Physicians. Shannon Brumbaugh described her experience there and was our first speaker. Coincidentally, she is currently training me at my new job at the Science in Motion Biology Outreach program. She has also interned at a few other places. Many of the students have actually had two to four previous experiences, which I think is pretty incredible. On the other hand, Mark Lee experienced a more...

Brussels and Bradshaw

...Brussels and Bradshaw In response to the case study, Brussels and Bradshaw is a well-established financial institution that offers their clients competitive and innovative solutions for their community and work environments. The banking institution offers a summer internship to bright and driven individuals. The internship includes 14 weeks of very intense training and long hours. Interns are paid $20,000 for the contract. During the screening process, out of all the possible candidates Audrey Locke was selected. Audrey has some experience as an assistant, assurance analyst and financial planning analyst. Brussels and Bradshaw is operating in more than 25 countries globally; this case study takes place in Toronto. Many behavioral issues in the Brussels and Bradshaw institution are unprofessional and stressful. Job stress is defined as feeling one’s capabilities, resources, or needs that do not match the demands or requirements of the job (Hitt, Miller, & Colella, 2011 p. 249). Working 70 and 80 hours per week or possibly 120 hours will put a major burden on anyone, especially someone new to the working environment. Audrey is excited with her internship and very eager to learn. She is assigned a mentor and buddy by the business development manager, Kelly Richards. Kelly has 10 years of experience. Although associates consider her human resources, Kelly’s job is strictly administrative. Audrey is never introduced to her mentor and her buddy, Christine Page is very...
