Dear friend, The internet is a very useful and big world. A person can do pretty much anything they want on the internet and it is just at the tip of their fingers. A person can watch television and movies via the World Wide Web. A person can shop for clothing, jewelry, food, books, and music from the comfort of their own home. Students even have the ability to go to class through the internet and read the books that are needed. Those students, along with any student with internet access, can conduct research for any given reason and expand the horizon of their knowledge. People can obtain information that used to be available only through books, which were only available from libraries. People can even communicate with others that live next door or around the world in an instant, which was not an option for them before the internet.
The internet is a very fascinating world of its own. There is a large amount of information available and many things that one can do on the internet. Deciphering what is fact and what is the opinion of someone else is a very tricky thing when the information is obtained from the internet. When conducting research, a person should look at the author of the information. If the writer has no history writing anything, there is a very good chance that it is not reliable. One should also stay clear of blogs and social media sites when getting information, as these are generally the opinion of those writing it. There are also websites that can be altered by anyone that has internet access. Information should not be used from these websites for writings that research is being conducted for, such as an academic research paper. One major problem with looking through the millions of web pages for information, is that any person that has the right amount of funds, can make a credible looking website. This can make a person that is searching for

I would also ask myself if I notice any bias on the website this happens often because people will put misinformation out there in order to sell or promote their business and or interest. Also I check multiple sources in order to ensure that the information that I just found. I will also identify ways you can check the reliability of the information found. Not leaving out the part, you asked about the term digital divide. This letter will end with me telling you ways to bridge the digital divide gap and I hope you will have everything you need to know on Internet and Information. According to (computer hope.com), “Most information is found on the Internet by utilizing search engines. A search engine is a web service that uses web robots to query millions of pages on the Internet and creates an index of those web pages. Internet users can then use these services to find information on the Internet”. (www. Computer Hope.com) As researched by (Robert Harris) “Information is everywhere on the Internet existing in large quantities and continuously being created and revised. This information exists in a large variety of kinds (facts, opinions, stories, interpretations, and statistics) and is created for many purposes (to inform, to persuade, to sell, to present a viewpoint, and to create or change an attitude or belief). ...Hello Pen Pal! Hope you are doing well. Yes, the Internet can be quite fascinating with the amount of information that is available with the click of a button on your computer. Being able to read and learn about various topics without having to go to a library and do research is very convenient. One can learn just about anything or find just about anything with an internet search. From purchasing furniture, to scheduling appointments, to reading news articles and ordering take-out food, the internet is a marvelous tool to use! To answer your question of “How do you assess the value of all this information you find on the Internet,” often times can be challenging. Because the internet has so much information for many resources from around the world, it is crucial to develop skills to accurately access the information you are reviewing. When you use sources at a library, each one has been reviewed and evaluated to ensure the material presented is authentic and not fabricated. When one uses the internet, none of these screens are applicable. In essence there are no buffers with the information available and anyone can post regardless of its truth or not. The main way to ensure the information one is reviewing is credible is to use the following steps: • Authorship • Publisher • Bias • Accuracy of details With verifying Authorship, one should be researching the person who wrote the article especially if it is an author that the reader does not recognize...

The evaluations discusses the advantages and disadvantages between the Library and the internet on which how many definition you can get from the internet and what information to go by whether that be the book answer or the internet answer. This is my tutorial on evaluating the Internet, and the advantages and disadvantages it has for me and today’s society. Most of us feel very at ease and confident using the Internet. Reason being, it doesn’t take up your time opposed to going to the librarys to find books , or look though the directory to find chronicles, articles or bulletin information, may seem to be time consuming. So why would you use those resources? What benefits would the library resources have over the Internet resource? One big advantage of resources, is the library over free Internet resources is that they’ve been considered. Books in the library and editorials in the database have been within an evaluation process that gives some assertion of credibility and accuracy. Since anyone can put no matter what on the Internet, the only assessment a website is obtainable to go through is the one that you do, determining whether or not to use it for your convenience. Internet

...Jenkins January 25, 2014 Internet Essay Dr. Moira Maguire Word Count: 627 “Do students rely solely on the internet or should they use a balance of diverse kinds of sources?” Students use the internet for a variety of things such as entertainment, social needs, and very few times is it used as a dependable source. Although students don’t use it reliably, I believe that students should use a balance of sources. Internet and Library sources are both very useful in their own rights when utilized properly; however they both have their pros and cons. In this essay I will discuss the benefits and liabilities of using the two types of sources. Students who use a mixture of sources are more likely to have more valid and solid facts than a student who uses all sources from one place. The sources begin to become more repetitive and less factual when they are all retrieved from one place. This also makes it harder for the writer to put the sources into their own words creating a suspicion of plagiarism. The liability of the internet is that it is a place where anyone can create anything and put it on a forum for all to view, retrieve and use as a source. Just because something is put into a space doesn’t make it correct. Using caution and exercising good judgment can help prevent using a bogus source, but in contrast the internet provides an interactive multimedia experience that is not available with library sources. Sources from the internet are also harder to identify...

...purpose of the study was to investigate a set of faculty related factors that may be associated with particular levels of suggestive plagiarism. Suggestive plagiarism is an intentionally chosen term to capture the fact that TII reports on submitted papers only and that may, but not necessarily, infer actual plagiarism. It does not assess a student’s intent or ignorance of the rules of source attribution. This reality of the tool is discussed at greater length later in this study. This study guide aims to help you to understand what plagiarism is in the context of academic work, and offers guidance on how to avoid it. Introduction Plagiarism, and the larger issue of ownership of the written word, is not as easy to define as it might first appear. Many writers on the topic of plagiarism and academic honesty have attempted to define the term. It comes as no surprise that the use of the Internet is on the rise and that the high school and college students of today see it as an integral and vital tool for their learning. The combination of the ubiquitous nature of computers, the internet and other information technologies with changing attitudes toward the ownership and control of information leads inevitably toward a world in which information is created, shared, modified and appropriated as never before seen. This combination of factors lies at the heart of the plagiarism threat in the academic world. Background of the Study In the last few years, a new tool has been developed for...

A Review of the Issues Surrounding Internet Censorship and Cross-National Information Conflict

... This paper provides a brief review of the government censorship over internet, which is turning into a national dilemma as well as the cross-national conflict which affect the global businesses. Nowadays, internet censorship is widely accepted standard regulation that controls any information available on the internet and by using filtering tools to prevent people from accessing materials that are considered to be inappropriate. While government support the use of internet censorship as a protection of public security and defines the ‘inappropriate material’ to determine what people can view on the internet, others argue that it is simply a tool to take away people from their own right to express freedom of speech and make people blindly accept what they can access on the internet. The paper also addresses the growing problem of cross-national conflict by giving the practice of multinational company Google and addressing the issues of the value system between Chinese and US government. The paper concludes that as the rapid growth of internet technology and international businesses, it has become more difficult to achieve both control of information and the benefits of technology, and there is a need for balance between these two factors.  Table of Contents Abstract I Table of Contents II 1.
