After watching the video "Making Ethical Choices," I must say that Brian shows no ethics whatsoever!! Brian's emotional intelligence(the ability to recognize, interpret, or respond appropriately to his emotions or other people), mindfulness(a manner of acting and interacting with your immediate environment), ethics(showing standards for right and wrong, good and bad, and moral and immoral), and competence(the ability to accomplish your goals) were totally absent from the whole scenario. Brian's behavior needed addressing, he is sexist(comments about the vendor he took out), Brian steals from the company(time, gifts, and money), he is insubordinate(referring to the boss and his golf outing), and he appears to be a racist(comments about Tiger Woods wannabes). Brian is not only showing that he has no respect for ethics; he seems to be teaching his son the same way(doing his son's school report). Not only this, but he tries to sway Regina to join him by saying(she should ease the tension during these tough economic times by taking things from the company). That is wrong on so many counts, but, some people do not want to drown by themselves, so they try to pull others into their mess.

Regina was right on point, bringing to Brian's attention the company policy and memos that were sent out regarding the freeze on accounts, she also lets him know that petty cash is not for personal use. She also told him in no uncertain terms that all employees do not steal from their companies(pens, paper, time or otherwise). Yes, it is her business, what if the company has a Profit Sharing for their employees, Brian's and others like him will cut into the companies profits, which will cut into her profit. Not only the profit, but the company could go Bankrupt if enough people steal from it. Moreover, when, not if Brian is exposed, they are going to assume Regina was doing the

...M1A3 Goals Identification and Reality Assessment Worksheet 1. Describe a goal for interpersonal improvement in your personal life. Be sure to explain the following: * What aspects of your own interpersonal communication skills would you like to improve? * How far are you from attaining this goal? * Do you think this goal is set too high or too low? Why, or why not? * How long will it take me to attain this goal? * If the goal will take a long time to attain, could you set smaller goals that you could attain while still working toward your bigger goal? * How will you benefit from successfully attaining your goal? My personal goal is to be able to communicate my feelings more often. I think it will take me a few months to successfully attain this goal because I’ve been so closed off for so long. I do not think my goal is set too high or too low because I believe it is a reasonable goal to achieve if I continue to express myself verbally. I will benefit from this goal because communication is key, not only in relationships, but in life. If I have trouble communicating to others I will not succeed. When an issue arises I will have the confidence to address it to the other person(s) and discuss it without feeling judged or belittled. 2. ...related to what’s happening in the dynamic environment of what the business provides (be it in a services, manufacturing, technological, or financial area). (Olsen, 2007) Therefore, the strategy and direction the company take are defined by what established and unique value propositions the company has when compared to competitors; operations executed to provide different and tailored value to customers; clearly identifies any tradeoffs and clarifies what not to do; focuses on activities that fit together and reinforce each other; and is continually driven for improvement within the organization and while moving it toward its defined vision. I use The Home Depot (Home Depot here-out) for this paper as I have a part-time job with them. Strategy Home Depot’s simple and straightforward strategy is to ensure it diversifies its operations by having several businesses competing in the different product markets of home improvement. (Home Depot, 2008) The Home Depot has positioned itself within the industry based on a strategy of cost leadership. This operating strategy allows the company to earn above-average profitability by dictating prices from suppliers lowering input costs and minimizing distribution transactions eliminating the “middleman.” Home Depot developed a tight cost control system through quality assurance programs which monitor vendor compliance contained by the company’s requirements. Home Depot must position itself for future business by generating distinctive...

Home Depot Fail in China

...Home Depot Failed in China Name: Chuanshi Liu ID: h701789460 Course: IB 207 Background Home Depot is the largest home improvement retailer in the world. It has about 2200 stores across the United States, Canada, and Mexican. It targets three main customer groups, which are D-I-Y customers, D-I-F-M customers and professional customers. Home depot is famous for its D-I-Y products and services. In 2006, after housing market turn down in the United States, Home Depot entered into the China home improvement market through a full M&A activity. It has twelve stores in Beijing, Shanghai, and other large cities in China. Home Depot served the similar services and products to Chinese customers, which also include the D-I-Y products. However, Home Depot did not succeed this time in China. From 2006 to 2012, the top managers in China area have been changed three times. Home Depot wanted to find out the solutions to this bad situation in local market. However, the situation was worsened when the building material market turned down in 2012, 12 main stores have been closed in local market. Top managers believe that the main reason for their failure is the cultural difference. The D-I-Y services and products do not fit the local culture. Changes and effects Business Environment There are changes in business environment for Home Depot. In United States, the biggest competitor for the Home Depot is Lowe's. Lowe's

...Lowe’s By You April 21st, 2014 University of Phoenix ECO-365 Introduction In the United States there are two major players in the home improvement industry. The biggest in The Home Depot. The other, while smaller having 502 less stores, is still a giant of the industry (Cramer, 2013). Through the recession Lowe’s stood while well The Home Depot fumbled. Lowe’s faces competition from opponents other than just The Home Depot as it expands beyond America. As Lowe’s seeks to enter the Canadian and Australian markets it will encounter more diversity than it has experiences so far. The complexities of doing business abroad and opening stores afar will become even more apparent as their international tactics change. Despite the challenges Lowe’s should expand further to become an even bigger player both nationally and globally. Global Competition’s Impact on Lowes In 2009, Lowes had 1,710 stores found throughout Canada and United States, 16 of these found outside the United States, with three stores in Mexico that opened in 2010, allowing for their exposure to bring them to a new level of sales internationally. (“Lowes Companies”, 2012) After much research it is found five competitors could impact Lowes, the #2 home improvement dealer in the world (Racine, 2012), but on different levels. The first competition is the main competition of Lowes, Home Depot, #1 in the world since 2005, (“Lowes Companies”, 2012) is expanding its sales by bringing in more Hispanics...

From Nickels to Dimes

...From Nickels to Dimes; My Future Plan Alex L. Dore BUS 215 Instructor Magnuson October 05, 2014 From Nickels to Dimes; My Future Plan “To spend your life living in fear, never exploring your dreams is cruel. To work hard for money, thinking that it will buy you things that will make you happy is also cruel. To wake up in the middle of the night terrified about paying bills is a horrible way to live. To live a life dictated by a paycheck is not really living a life.” (Kiyosaki, 2001) This is a quote I found that I feel really summarizes majority of Americans within our Country. Lack of knowledge and not being able to learn how to manage finances has seemed to become a plague, and the climb to reach a debt free style of living seems to be to big of a ladder to climb. My future is not only for me, however it is also for my wife and three amazing children. Not only will I be the one feeling the impact of financial hardship, they will as well. To prevent this I have found some tools that will indeed help me climb that ladder to become not only debt free, but to have a better plan as I slowly move forward to retirement. First on the plan to retirement and financial success you really have to figure out what you’re going to be working with. Knowing how much money is coming in from you employment or any other means is important. Especially know what is going out, here is what I feel is not only mine, but others biggest problem when dealing with their cash. People tend to get...

...more money than if they hired a professional worker. Undoubtedly, the Lowe’s company target do-it-yourself customers who are on a fixed budget because they aim to have the lowest prices. The Lowe’s Bathroom tile ad’s main technique is using an everyday-type person to appeal to a large audience. Lowe's use of an unskilled character in an everyday situation makes the ad relatable to people because most people are not professionals, and it effectively reaches everyday homeowners. Their goal is to provide the best equipment with low prices so that customers can rely on their products for small or big home improvements. When people want to redesign or fix their homes, they either stop by at the Lowe’s store or The Home Depot store for supplies and equipment. The Home Depot Company has always been a competition for Lowe’s Company ever since they gained popularity in the home improvement hardware. Even though both stores sell almost the same things, the two seem to target very different audiences. The Home Depot stores “appeal to professional customers such as contractors and tradesmen” while the Lowe’s store “appeals to a larger do-it-yourself audience”. Both stores have distinct goals, which is to attract a certain audience to make more purchases. From watching the Lowe’s bathroom tile ad, they definitely are promoting a do-it-yourself idea, since the man in the video was working on his own by just using the equipment he bought from Lowe’s. Lowe’s created a short video ad where...

Sugar Bowl

...Sugar Bowl Memo Shelby Givens faced many trials and tribulations throughout the transformation of her grandfather’s Westlake Lanes into Sugar Bowl. All three phases, from preparing for the transformation to operations, produced challenges that Givens would have to overcome. In Phase I, Givens prepared for the bowling alley’s renovation. Westlake Lanes was to close down current operations for approximately nine months. The design challenge of Sugar Bowl would be to create the environment for Givens’ key demographic, young professionals. Raleigh’s design firms estimated a total cost of $500,000 to $750,000. Givens realized this direction would ultimately be unsuccessful due to the high cost. She then recruited design students from two local universities to work for three months at no cost. The student’s proposed plan, along with a license architect, would save her about $90,000. The menu challenge was Givens had to produce an original tapas-style menu for Sugar Bowl. Realizing the cost to renovate the onsite kitchen would be substantial, she partnered with a local catering business to create the menu offsite. Phase II began in November 2010. Given’s had previously hired a low experienced contractor to oversee the construction of Sugar Bowl. The challenge was Mike Walker had delayed Sugar Bowls opening by almost two months due to missed deadlines, incorrect deliveries, and a staff shortage. Givens decided to not to fire Walker because it would not save her money or time. Staff challenges...

Home Renovation Tax Credit

...The Home Renovation Tax Credit (HRTC) is identified as a potential instrument to stimulate the construction market by providing an incentive to home owners to engage in a minimum amount of house renovations (Garland, 2009). It was introduced back in 2009 as a temporary measure to provide a timely stimulus to the Canadian economy when the construction industry needed a boost (Warnica, 2015). Unlike the 2009 credit which resulted in $3 billion in government tax expenditures, the permanent HRTC is going to cost $1.5 billion in tax expenditures yearly and 15 percent annual credit would apply to renovations between $1,000 and $5,000 (McMahon, 2015). The tax credit is presumed to help Canadian families and support Canadian jobs. The potential benefit of Harper’s Home Renovation Tax Credit is that it will help curb underground activities (CHBA, 2015) and foster household health and safety. With HRTC, there is an incentive for home owners to hire legitimate tax paying professional contractors for home renovations. By requiring receipts to support HRTC claims, home owners will be discouraged from hiring unskilled underground operators- who work for cash and tend to ignore health and safety requirements in home renovations (CHBA, 2015). If home owners claim the tax credit, not only will underground activities in the construction industry reduce, there will be an increase in government revenues (Stinespring, 2011) as legitimate tax paying contractors will gain business that would otherwise...

...transferred?  What is the role of the multipliers? Brand: Home Depot Marketing Program Investment: This is the first stage in the brand value chain. Home Depot began promoting early this year because of the early spring, advertisements about getting the yard ready for the summer and starting home improvement projects. Although Home Depot has started early advertising this spring does not necessarily guarantee success. Program Quality Multiplier: The quality of the marketing campaign can be based off of four main factors clarity, relevance, distinctiveness and consistency. Home Depots marketing campaigns are geared toward seasonal changes. The commercials clearly portray what projects need to get done and they offer discounts and specials on those items to bring in business. A marketing campaign that touches on all four factors makes a definite ROI. Customer Mind-Set: The customer mind-set is anything that consists in the minds of the consumer with respect to a brand: thoughts, feelings, experiences, images, perceptions, beliefs, and attitudes. Home Depot has created an image of their store. Customers know that Home Depot is a place to go for all your home improvement needs. They offer competitive pricing, knowledgeable staff, friendly service, clean environment, variety of products and flexible store hours.
