...Don't Judge a Book by its Cover I may not act like it, but I've lost a parent. It may not seem like it, but I've lost a best friend. And I may not look like it, but when I'm not bouncing off the walls or being loud with excitement and energy, I'm terrified of meeting new people. No, I didn't lose a parent to death. More or less, he lost me when he decided to let my step father adopt me. He abandoned me when he made the choice to stop talking to me. In fact, I haven't gotten a letter or phone call from him since the fourth grade. I did, however, lose a best friend to death, but she wasn't a person. She was a dog. And I'd known her since I was just a few weeks old. As with most dogs, she died of old age at fourteen. If you ask anyone who knows me well enough, "What is Kayla like?" one of the first things they'd probably tell you is "hyper", with a capital H. I don't think I have ADHD, but I am extremely energetic. So why am I so afraid of talking to or introducing myself to new people? I'm afraid to make a bad impression. I'm scared of being looked down upon because someone new might think I'm weird if I get to know them. The truth is, I'm nothing like the girl most people know me as.When you look at someone new, what's the first thing you think? If the person is pretty or handsome, you may say or think, "Oh, they're probably really snotty. Just look at those clothes!" Or even worse in my opinion, if the person is wearing glasses or has stringy hair, "Look at the nerd! They're...

...Hofstede's Framework for Assessing Culture He has found five dimensions of culture in his study of national work related values: • Low vs. High Power Distance - the extent to which the less powerful members of institutions and organizations expect and accept that power is distributed unequally. Low power distance (e.g. Austria, Israel, Denmark, New Zealand) expect and accept power relations that are more consultative or democratic. People relate to one another more as equals regardless of formal positions. Subordinates are more comfortable with and demand the right to contribute to and critique the decision making of those in power. In High power distance countries (e.g. Malaysia, Slovakia) less powerful accept power relations that are more autocratic and paternalistic. Subordinates acknowledge the power of others simply based on where they are situated in certain formal, hierarchical positions. As such the Power Distance Index Hofstede defines does not reflect an objective difference in power distribution but rather the way people perceive power differences. In Europe, Power Distance tends to be lower in Northern countries and higher in Southern and Eastern parts. There seems to be an admittedly disputable correlation with predominant religions. • Individualism vs. collectivism - individualism is contrasted with collectivism, and refers to the extent to which people are expected to stand up for themselves and to choose their own affiliations, or alternatively act predominantly...

...My last day If I was about to die and I would be given the chance to live for another day, I would spend the first quarter buying gifts and making letters or videos for the people who made an impact in my life. After doing those things, I would invite the person I love for a picnic under a tree somewhere on a hill and have a great time. Before I die, I would actually want to do something extreme. After having lunch with the person I love, I would want to go sky diving with a really good friend of mine because we promised that we would go on a sky dive together. I actually want to ride all the roller coasters in the world, but since that would require travelling the world and would accommodate days, I would go on skydiving because it can be done in less than a day. After going on a sky dive, I would eat the best burger in town together with my sister because we had a deal when we were young that we will eat the tastiest burger in the country. After eating with my sister, I would host a party somewhere spacious, like a dome. My family, my very close friends, even my classmates back in preschool, all of them would be there. I would hire all my favorite bands to play all my favorite songs. I would love it if everyone would just have fun and it would be one of the most memorable parties that they have ever been to. During the last hours of my life, I would spend it with the people I love somewhere windy and near a waterfall. I would give them my presents and letters...

...Term Paper On Gender Discrimination in Bangladesh Submitted by WWW.ASSIGNMENTPOINT.COM Dialogue over the issue of Gender Discrimination is not a recent phenomenon. During the 1950s and 60s, the emphasis on women was on their reproductive roles as mothers and homemakers. This approach was based on Western stereotypes of the nuclear family in which women are economically dependent on the male breadwinners. In the early 1970s, researchers began to focus on the division of labor based on sex, and the impact of development and modernization strategies on women. The WID (Women in Development) concept came into use in this period. The philosophy underlying this approach is that women are lagging behind in society and the gap between men and women can be bridged by remedial measures within the existing structures. The WID approach started to recognize women as direct actors of social, political, cultural and working life. Therese Blancher mentioned gender disparity of Bengali society as: The birth of a boy is always greeted with joy. The birth of a girl is welcome when it is a first child (the first fruit which announces the fertility of the plant), or when there are already boys and no girl in a family. Otherwise, it is often received with resentment. Boys represent wealth, but girls are seen as a cumbersome responsibility. They are born to be given in marriage. This will require a dowry and impoverish the family most prefer a large number of sons...

Although there are so many laughers to each of you, there might be hidden heart feelings because of some struggled words that you gave to your friends. But now, it’s already done with a smile in our faces. That’s the best things or feeling the person can have after the long conviction of things between us. This is all natural so let’s understand them and learn to forget each and every one. Without these two things there would be problems to your relationship. ...A Complicated Relationship Once, there was a shy girl who likes to play the guitar. Her name is Gelou. She is always alone. She doesn’t have many friends and if she has, she doesn’t hang out much with them. Every time she’s at school, she always sits on the bench, play a song and sing it with harmony. One day when she was walking at the porch, she bumped into a girl. “Where are looking?!” “I’m so sorry. I wasn’t paying attention,” she replied. “Oh, I’m sorry, too. My day is just bad. By the way, I’m Kelly,” the girl said. “Hi, Kelly. My name is Gelou. Nice meeting you.” “Okay, got to go. See you around. Bye!” “Bye!” That was the start of their friendship. Every lunch and recess, they will meet up and talk about many things. They talk about a lot of things about academics because Kelly is not the type who will scream for her idol or wear make-up just to be noticed by her crush. She’s kind of boyish. Not like Gelou. But even though they are different, they still got along just fine. Suddenly, some popular boys, which are their classmates, just bumped into them. As expected, Gelou wouldn’t say anything. But Kelly is different. “Hey! Watch where you’re going!” “Oh, miss. We’re sorry,” one of the boys said. “Next time, you guys should look where you’re going,” looks at Gelou “Let’s go!” The next day, Kelly didn’t go to school leaving Gelou alone. ...bicycles and rollerblades while they strolled along the streets. What caught my attention was the airplane that flew across the sky that disappeared over the horizon. I always wondered what it would be like to travel to another place and experience another country's culture. It would be fun to go to South America, Australia, Europe, or even China. Well, I had my opportunity in 7th grade to go to France in Europe, and what I remembered from this trip was an injury that I probably would not forget. The place I stayed in France was a house not too far from Paris. It was in the rural areas of France, but it was a lovely place. My friend, Julien, showed me around the house and introduced me to his family. They were all very kind. Everything was going smoothly and I waited for the upcoming days of excitement. One day, on a weekend, Julien gathered some friends to have a picnic and to go on a bike journey. There were a total of 6 including me, 4 guys and 2 girls. Julien lent me one of his bikes, which was not the best because the wheels kept jamming, but usable. On the way, we stopped at stores to pick up snacks and accessories. We even stopped by a shop that had all kinds of explosives and fireworks. At this point I was really excited because in the shop were small dynamites, the size of USB drives to rockets that would shoot in the sky to make pretty sparkles in the sky. I eagerly paid for several boxes of small dynamites and a...
