The global printing machinery industry has continued to grow rapidly with an expectation of surpassing a net value of twenty one billion dollars by the year 2015 (Report linker, 2014). The printing and copy machinery segment has the largest share in this industry. The trend from commercial to personal printing within the office or home environment hints at a niche that is growing presenting an opportunity for growth within the competitive sector. The target market for the personal printer has the potential for growth especially now that more people are purchasing and owning personal computers. The availability of more content in soft forms from the internet and the move from the traditional paper based correspondence to digital correspondence through adoption of technologies like electronic mail makes owning a personal printer a necessity (Carlson, 1999). Less correspondence is coming in through the traditional postal services and this makes it necessary for people to own printers to ensure they are able to print out electronic mail and even reports at the comfort of the home (Michael, 2011). The demand for technologically adept printers further presents an underserved market niche.

Innovative printing machines present a new dimension in the printer industry where the clientele comprises of the technological perceptive individuals in the market. A high end, feature packed printer is likely to meet the complex needs of the high-end personal printer market.
