Initial feelings about the article, Muslim missionaries who understand the Quran and the hadith believe that sharia (Islamic law) expresses the highest and best goals for all societies. It is the will of Allah. No one should be fooled into believing that these harsh and excessive laws were invented in the fevered imagination of extremists who came long after Muhammad. No. These harsh and excessive laws come directly from the founder of Islam in his Quran and in his example in the hadith. After going through two previous confusing stages before coming down hard on adrinkers and gamblers, the Quran finally prohibits alcohol and gambling in Sura; they do not prescribe the punishment of flogging, but the hadith does. Thus, we see no offer of help for the alcoholic, when he is dragged before Muhammad and his followers. Why does Muhammad not offer rehabilitation? Why does he always seem to go immediately to corporal punishment? Muhammad himself actually laid down these excessive punishments and policies. For example; Muslims showed up intoxicated for public prayers "and made blunders in their recitations" of Quranic passages. So Muhammad had to correct the problem. 4:43 You who believe, do not come anywhere near the prayer if you are intoxicated, until you know what you are saying . . .
Because the Muslims showed up intoxicated for public prayer, "they changed the timings of their drinking so as not to clash with the timings of their prayers," says Maududi (vol. 1, p. 337, note 65). So Muhammad prohibited drunkenness only during prayers. After all, the Bible distinguishes between mild use of alcohol and drunkenness. But he already said in Sura 2:219 that intoxicants have sin in them. Also, Sura 5:90-91 will prohibit intoxicants completely. It is quite odd that in this confused state of affairs Muhammad did not completely and absolutely prohibit intoxication at this

Introduction to the Sciences

...Maria D. Velazquez Introduction to the Sciences Prof. Talley My selected chemical is BPA. So, let’s start by talking what is BPA is a chemical that is added to plastic to harden them while keeping them light. BPA plays the role as an industrial chemical that has been used to make certain plastics and resins since the 1960s. BPA is found in polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. Polycarbonate plastics are used in the containers of what we eat and drink. Epoxy resins are used to coat the inside of metal products, such as food cans, bottle tops and water supply lines. Some dental sealants and composites also may contain BPA. Research shows that BPA can seep into food or beverages from containers that are made with BPA. Exposure to BPA is a concern because of possible health effects of BPA on the brain, behavior and prostate gland of fetuses, infants and children. BPA is part of our modern world because is everywhere, water bottles, veggies cans, milk gallons, baby bottles, even in medicine bottles. The funny part is that 90% of us has BPA in our bodies. However, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has said that BPA is safe at the very low levels that occur in some foods. This assessment is based on review of hundreds of studies. But in 2010 the FDA changed their position because with the standardize test they can’t find evident conclusion, then again the problem is that other independent studies show the harms of BPA, and this is how they raise “some concern”....

Store Bought Dog Food

...Which Is the Better Dog Food? The commercial dog food industry has been in existence for almost one hundred and fifty years. It affords a convenience to pet owners where by they only need to scoop out dry kibble in a bowl or open a can of pet food, without any additional food or supplement, pet owners do not know what ingredients are being used in the food. Many have relied on the dog food industry to use quality products in manufacturing their food. However, to their surprise, in some cases at the demise of pets this has not been the case. In light of all the pet food recalls since 1995 and more recently in March 2007, where Menu Foods recalled more 100 brands including Iams, Eukanuba, Hill’s Science Diet, Purina Mighty Dog and many store brands including Wal-Mart. Owners have began to take a more proactive approach as to learn what ingredients are in the product, by reading and understanding the label on the packaging and making a educated choice between the slew of brands whether it be dry kibble or canned food. Some owners are scrapping commercial dog foods all together and feeding their pet a homemade diet. These owners are convinced that the dogs health fare much better on these types of diets because before the existence of commercial dog foods pets ate what people consumed in the form of leftovers or table scraps or if they were in the wild they hunted their own food that provided the pet with natural protein and nutrients found in raw meat and plants...

High School Science Project

...Which brand of corned beef spoiled faster? Star or Argentina? Acknowledgement We would like to thank our Chemistry teacher, Ms. Ro-Anne Nuguit, for helping us choose a simpler topic. Abstract Our investigatory project focuses on which brand of corned beef would last longer. We had 2 different brands of a 150g of corned beef and a plastic container for each. The researcher washed both of the corned beef (by using the strainer) before placing it inside the container and sealed it with its lid. We’ve kept the variable in its container for two days. Within the span of two days, the Argentina corned beef spoiled first. Then on the second day, the Star corned beef has only started to spoil. And that’s where the researchers came up with the conclusion that the Argentina corned beef had less preservatives, causing it to spoil earlier. Entrepreneurship Failure

...Entrepreneurship Failure Background of Petite Palate Company Business enterprises are established to exploit existing and emerging market opportunities. Competition in these markets is expected to stiffen as more entrants come in, raising the number of competing enterprises in the market. Creativity and innovativeness of an entrepreneur pushes the business to the next level. These are the scenarios that Petite Palate Company had to deal in the with U.S baby food industry when it established its operations in the year 2006. The company was set up in Long Island City, New York. Petite Palate specialized in producing baby food, and targeted Northeast and Midwest markets of the United States. At the time the company started its operations, the market had become significantly competitive due to the number of players that had already established operations in prior years. On the same note, the enterprise was essentially a gourmet baby food company that only pursued this line of production, unlike other players who had mixed lines of production for diversity purposes (Lawrence, Lyons & Wallington, 2012). The dedication by the enterprise to gourmet baby food constrained its operational strategies in terms of diversity. The baby food industry and the markets in this industry were experiencing an ever growing trend in terms of operational business enterprises and baby food and baby formula varieties before and during the time Petite Palate started its operations. As a result...
