Jb Hunt Case Study

Below are a few notes on specific shippers. The main motivator for JB Hunt to use the HV code is when a load is a high risk of contamination or theft. Electronics, Nike shoes, and higher end clothes are examples they consider high risk. A container of Nike shoes could have a market value over $250,000, conversely it would be perfect for a thief; easy to carry off, hide, and to sell. As far as contamination the major concern is medical supplies; not only their cost but the fear of tampering. In their characterization of “high risk”, a 3,000 pound coil of copper is high value, but not a high risk since someone cannot just carry it off. Less seal exceptions with large BCO of course help their service side of the formula.

...WEEK #5 CASE STUDY # 1 "SPECIAL REPORT : LEVERAGING THE VALUE OF SUPPLY CHAIN EDUCATION." In today's world of global trade being able to say yes sir I have a degree or certificate in supply chain management will open doors to higher pay and higher positions in companies. Having the education and understanding of how the global trade network and supply chain logistics works, allows that person to tap into many more possibilities than those without a supply chain education. However I think that hands on experience plays a big role in climbing the company ladder, starting as a shipping clerk or a dispatcher or even in my case as a truck driver we will have some knowledge of how the supply chain works. With more companies investing greater resources in their supply chain , there is a upward trend to have the best educated and the brightest employees managing their supply chains. In the past companies have employed supply chain managers from in house and not normally educated . I agree 100% with the article as companies are looking to gain any advantage over their competitors and as a student in logistics and transportation most are turning to their supply chain. I also agree that the classroom to paycheck is not as well paved or navigable as it probably should be, because there are so many ways to go after education , supply chain or transportation I mean do you go to work for Amazon or maybe jb hunt. The article overall is encouraging for students in logistics...

This study will draw upon the raw data that has been collected by surveying 50 university students from the University of Western Sydney. We have provided students with a questionnaire for numerical and measurable data related to the variables. Our data is validated and reiterated by previous literature, and we have created our own questionnaire which collects academic data where GPA is influenced highly by the selected variables. Our research is presented using a cross section data with many subjects without regard to difference in times. The data is uploaded on an excel spread sheet and ran through a STATA program to allow us to see the significance and correlating levels. The Challenge That Faces Telsa Motors Trying to Enter the Chinese Market

...Name Professor Course Date The challenge that faces Telsa Motors trying to enter the Chinese market Organizational behavior is centered on how people act or behave in an organization. An organization is simply a group of individuals who have the same interests and are brought together by similar or common goals (Lam and John 123). Organizational behavior is, therefore, the study of the factors that influence how employees and other people respond, feel and act to organizations and work and how the Company is affected by the external environment (McShane, Steven and Glinow 321).Organizational behavior reveals how people interact in a group and how the environment affects this interaction. The subsidiary of Telsa Motors in China was registered in the year 2006, but full operations began in 2013 when the trademark issue for Telsa Motors was resolved. Organizations must learn that their trademark is an international recognized concept but in some overseas market there can be problems with the mark of a Corporation. The best way to overcome these matters can be through franchises with existing domestic Corporations. Telsa Motors, Inc. is an American multinational Company that manufactures designs and sells electric vehicles, components of power train and battery products. Telsa is a publicly traded Company that sells its stock on the NASDAQ stock exchange market under the symbol TSLA. Marc Tarpenning and Martin Eberhard started Tesla Motors way back in 2003 (Hettich and Stewens...

Strategic Management

...Journal of Marketing Management Vol. 26, Nos. 1–2, February 2010, 74–89 From an aggregate to a brand network: a study of the ´ brand portfolio at L’Oreal Claude Chailan, International University of Monaco, Monaco Abstract Our purpose is to contribute to the understanding of brand-portfolio management by examining the brand-portfolio strategies of a world-leading company. We started to work on a case study with L’Oreal. Our research ´ focused on two questions: (1) what reasons lead L’Oreal to develop a brand´ portfolio strategy?; (2) how can brand-portfolio management create a higher and stronger level of competitive advantage for this company? The results show that an aggregation of brands is not in itself a brand portfolio. The juxtaposition of brands is one of, but not the sole, element necessary for the development of a brand portfolio, which is a combination of a brand ensemble and key competences born out of organisational savoir-faire. By analysing the evolution of the L’Oreal brand portfolio, this work shows how the brand ´ combination within a portfolio is a key factor for company development, growth, and risk management. It is a crucial phase to understand L’Oreal’s competitive ´ advantage. Keywords brand portfolio; brands; strategic marketing; L’Oreal ´ Introduction Many firms are becoming increasingly concerned with the definition of the relationships between brands within the company as parts of a whole, and with the organisation of these connections within...

Each format has its period of dominance and then with the natural process of technology evolving, the once considered latest and greatest music format is often seen as obsolete. The vinyl record in today’s society is viewed as an obsolete music format. However due to new trends and nostalgia it is slowing resurfacing from its after-life. This essay discuses the vinyl record, its history and its current role in consumer lives through a socio-cultural approach. The vinyl record was first introduced in 1930 by RCA Victor. RCA is mostly commonly known as the Radio Corporation of America, which is the flagship label of Sony Music Entertainment. The production in 1930 was for the long-playing music record included the advantage of a lower surface noise and was a durable material. The first commercially produced record was 12 inches in its diameter with a playback of 33 revolutions per minute (rpm). A vinyl record, also commonly called records or gramophone record uses a spiral groove that runs from the outer edge of the disc to the center to record and play back sound. During playback the sound causes a stylus to vibrate at certain frequencies while it engraves the vinyl. When the needle is placed into the record's groove, it will vibrate at the same frequencies and re-create the sound that was recorded. Sound quality of music on...

...SPECIAL ARTICLE Postfertilization Effects of Oral Contraceptives and Their Relationship to Informed Consent Walter L. Larimore, MD; Joseph B. Stanford, MD, MSPH T he primary mechanism of oral contraceptives is to inhibit ovulation, but this mechanism is not always operative. When breakthrough ovulation occurs, then secondary mechanisms operate to prevent clinically recognized pregnancy. These secondary mechanisms may occur either before or after fertilization. Postfertilization effects would be problematic for some patients, who may desire information about this possibility. This article evaluates the available evidence for the postfertilization effects of oral contraceptives and concludes that good evidence exists to support the hypothesis that the effectiveness of oral contraceptives depends to some degree on postfertilization effects. However, there are insufficient data to quantitate the relative contribution of postfertilization effects. Despite the lack of quantitative data, the principles of informed consent suggest that patients who may object to any postfertilization loss should be made aware of this information so that they can give fully informed consent for the use of oral contraceptives. Arch Fam Med. 2000;9:126-133 Oral contraceptives (OCs) are among the most extensively studied and used medications in the world,1 and are accessible without a prescription in some countries, although still virtually unavailable in others. In America, OCs have...

Chapter1

...chapter The Equity Method of Accounting for Investments The first several chapters of this text present the accounting and reporting for investment activities of businesses. The focus is on investments when one firm possesses either significant influence or control over another through ownership of voting shares. When one firm owns enough voting shares to be able to affect the decisions of another, accounting for the investment can become challenging and complex. The source of such complexities typically stems from the fact that transactions among the firms affiliated through ownership cannot be considered independent, arm’s-length transactions. As in many matters relating to financial reporting, we look to transactions with outside parties to provide a basis for accounting valuation. When firms are affiliated through a common set of owners, measurements that recognize the relationships among the firms help to provide objectivity in financial reporting. LO4 LO3 LO2 LO1 1 LEARNING OBJECTIVES After studying this chapter, you should be able to: Describe in general the various methods of accounting for an investment in equity shares of another company. Identify the sole criterion for applying the equity method of accounting and guidance in assessing whether the criterion is met. Prepare basic equity method journal entries for an investor and describe the financial reporting for equity method investments. Record the sale of an equity investment and identify the accounting...

Essence of Salt

...Historically, the main reason for the addition of salt to food was for preservation. Because of the emergence of refrigeration and other methods of food preservation, the need for salt as a preservative has decreased, but sodium levels, especially in processed foods, remain high. The expected tastes and flavors associated to salt use is enormous coupled with the relative low cost of enhancing the palatability of processed foods, thus making it a key rationale for salt use in food preservation. However, taste is not the only reason for the continued use of high levels of salt in foods. For some foods, sodium still plays a role in reducing the growth of pathogens and organisms that spoil products and reduce their shelf life. In other applications, sodium levels remain high because salt plays additional functional roles, such as improving texture. A number of other sodium-containing compounds are also used for increasing the safety and shelf life of foods or creating physical properties. This work begins with a review of the non-taste or flavor-related roles of salt and other sodium-containing compounds in food. The second part will briefly discuss the role that sodium plays in various food categories and provides examples of the sodium content of various foods. ------------------------------------------------- FOOD SAFETY AND PRESERVATION ------------------------------------------------- As mentioned previously, the first major addition of salt to food was for taste and...
