THE integration of CMC Ltd, which was acquired by Tata Sons earlier this year, with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is currently continuing on four to five different planes.

This was stated by Mr Atul Takle, Vice-President — Corporate Communications, TCS, at an informal press meet here. According to him, the most important integration is being effected with regard to human resources.

TCS is trying to incorporate its HR policies in the CMC format. The second step is being taken with regard to joint bidding for projects. Mr Takle said that sometimes both organisations were coming together and bidding jointly for a project. At other times, they were bidding separately.

``It varies from case to case. If we find that that by jointly bidding our purpose will be served, we do so. Otherwise, we bid separately. There is a constant exchange of views and flow of information among the two organisations,'' he said.

A ``cultural'' integration was also on. According to Mr Takle, TCS was trying to inject its corporate and functioning culture into CMC. ``There is a wrong perception that CMC, being earlier a government organisation, lacks a modern corporate culture. This is not wholly true because CMC is made of IT professionals and they are totally aware of current corporate cultures,'' he said. TCS was also trying to initiate quality standards within CMC.

``We are also helping CMC in project delivery skills,'' he said. TCS was trying to sell CMC's business potential in the overseas market.

``CMC is a strong player in the government sector, but we are very strong in the overseas market. We are constantly trying to sell CMC is foreign lands,'' he said. Meanwhile, Mr Takle preferred not to comment on the issue of corporatisation of TCS and its initial public offering.

``We are, however, following all accounting standards necessary for listing our scrip. It even includes preparation of the quarterly results. Maybe, further changes are necessary, but we are geared up,'' he added.
