Jessica Ridgeway
October 5th 2012, 10-year old Jessica Ridgeway went missing just after leaving her house to meet a friend two blocks down of her house to make there way to school together. This took place in Golden, Colorado, on an early and tragic morning for the Ridgeway family. (P. Solomon, 2013, pg.1)
It wasn't until nearly 8 hours after the dissaperance of Jessica, that her mother found out via phone call letting her know that Jessica was absent that day of school, which she hadn't recieved until a later. It wasn't until then that Jessica's mother, Sarah Ridgeway callled the police to report a missing person. (Clay, S. 2012, pg.1)
It was 5 days after the dissapearance of Jessica that police found parts of her body at a park 5 miles away from where she had vanished. (CNN Staff, 2013, pg.1)

Method of Death 10-year old Jessica making her way to school was abducted by 17-year old Austin Sigg when he first saw her walk past his car and bound her arms and legs with zipties, threw her in the back, drove around a little bit then took her to his place. He tried atrangling her with the zip ties but later switched to just his bare hands. But the truth all came out when Austin Sigg called and told a 911 dispatcher: " I murdered Jessica Ridgeway. I have proof that I did it." (P. Soloman, 2013, pg.1) He continues with telling the dispatcher that he has some of Jessica's body parts in a crawl space at his mother's house. After kidnapping Jessica on the date of October 5th he had sexually assaulted the 10-year old prior to cut up her body. Austin Sigg managed to cut Jessica's body into so many pieces that when authority had found her nothing was intact they weren't sure it was even Jessica. Westminister police department Trevor Materasso even said "This is extending the length of time it's taking for investigators to positively identify who that body is"

Chicken of the Sea

...________________________________________________________________________________________ Chicken of the Sea International The Jessica Simpson Spokesperson Decision [pic] _______________________________________________________________________________________ This case was written by Professor George E. Belch and Michael A. Belch. It is intended to be used as the basis for class discussion rather than to illustrate either effective or ineffective handling of a management situation. Introduction Chicken of the Sea International (COSI) is one of the oldest seafood companies in the United States. The company processes and markets a variety of seafood items under the Chicken of the Sea brand name including canned tuna, salmon, sardines, mackerel, crab, and clam products. The original company was founded in 1914 by Frank Van Camp and his son who bought the California Tuna Canning Company to can albacore tuna and changed the name to the Van Camp Seafood Company. However, the company began using the Chicken of the Sea trademark and brand name as a way to describe the taste of its tuna to consumers. Van Camp was the first company to can "light" tuna. So consumers would know to expect a mild-flavored white fish – that tasted similar to chicken – the company marketed it under the brand name Chicken of the Sea. It was such a success that the company eventually adopted the product name. The company operated under the Van Camp Seafood...

Heroes

...many soldiers the title of hero. Jessica Lynch was one Soldier who was given the title hero. Was she truly a hero? What actions merited such a label? Pat Tillman also received the coveted title of hero, despite much controversy. Pat Tillman’s label of heroism occurred because of his strong social status. However, the word hero in Tillman’s case was misused to disguise actual events or cover up the misfortunes of war. Shoshona Johnson would be called a hero as well. Shoshana Johnson and Lynch were captured the same day but because of race, one hero would receive more accolades than the other. These soldiers wanted to share the truth, but media’s opportunity to transform them into hero took precedence. All of these heroes received differential treatment based on their gender, race or social status. Jessica Lynch seemed to be the perfect candidate to depict as an American Hero. Lynch is 5’6, 130 lbs. with blonde hair and blue eyes (Fluharty). With Barbie doll like qualities, Jessica not only served as an American Soldier, but possessed the beauty necessary to attract attention of viewers and develop a great story. The War on Terrorism has allowed news anchors to televise and participate in more combat related events than ever before, yet truth is often skewed to give a better news line story. The events that led to her capture in Iraq in 2003 were exaggerated from the very beginning. Reports stated that the ambush resulted in “…Jessica Lynch being taken prisoner full...

Compare And Contrast Audubon And Annie Dillard

... There are more than 7 billion people in the world. Each of those 7 billion people have a different point of view. In the passage, Audubon is a sophisticated man who speaks scientifically. In contrast to Annie Dillard, who sounds more on the side of a free spirit type of person. Their tone and vocabulary that each writer uses continuously shows the difference between the two styles of writing. John James Audubon writes his observation as if it were being inserted into a scientific journal. Audubon accounts his encounter with the birds very precisely. He is very descriptive in his introduction to be sure that the reader is aware of exactly when and where he spotted the birds. The Audubon recalls his interaction by speaking in scientific descriptions like when he tells the reader about “pigeons flying from north-east to south-west.” This is an observation that an average person may not take the time to realize or record. Other pieces of his description, like were he tells about how the birds “descended and swept close over the earth with inconceivable velocity.” Audubon also uses similes to describe the way that the birds, “when high, were seen wheeling and twisting within their continued lines, which then resembled the coils of a gigantic serpent.” This shows the way that even his similes tend to use a more sophisticated and scientific tone. Audubon treated this experience of the birds as a scientific phenomenon that he felt such inclinations to count the birds and record...

The town holds an annual fair, where they have a week of celebrations, and on the last day they release 5,000 pigeons. Shooters take turns shooting said pigeons, and whoever shoots the most after their turn, wins. But, is this actually inspired by real life events . Sadly, there are some true accounts of mass pigeon shooting, like in Pennsylvania, which the author might have been inspired by. In an article, by the Huffington post, it states “... in Hegins, Pennsylvania. The organizers trapped thousands of live pigeons from cities and other areas where the birds lived and then trucked them...

Project Management

...Here are the 30 most common interview questions and how to answer them. Q: Can you tell me a little bit about yourself? Nearly every interview that you go to will kick off with this basic question. You want to keep your answer concise but information-packed. Briefly explain your educational and employment experience with one or two sentences. (After all, the employer can already see that in your resume.) Follow up with additional information about what you are passionate about (relevant to the job) so that you impress the employer immediately with your enthusiasm. Keep all irrelevant personal information out of your answer. Q: Why are you interested in working with this company? There are several different things that an employer may be trying to get at when asking this question. Address them all in your answer, and you’ll have a successful interview. Those things include: * What do you actually know about our company? * What skills do you bring to the company? * Why are you even looking for a job in the first place? * Why are you looking at getting a job that is below the status / pay of a previous job you’ve held? Answer this common interview question by doing your research about the company and position before the interview and choosing a fact about the company that really interests you. Highlight this fact in the interview as a reason you want to work with the company, and then explain concisely how your skills dovetail with this. If you are applying...

...Jia Le Su 3/1/14 742 ELA Step Towards True Equality Jessica Lange, a famous actress once beautifully stated, “Acceptance and tolerance and forgiveness, those are life altering lessons.” Acceptance and tolerance mean appreciating the differences in people and respecting people for who they are. When one is tolerant, they understand and reverence others that have a different gender, ethics, feelings, and behaviors than them. In the stories “The Scarlet Ibis” written by James Hurst, and “Raymond’s Run” written by Toni Cade Bambara, the authors depicted the relationships with disabled siblings. These relationships could have a significant impact on these siblings’ life later on. Notwithstanding bearing the fact that Doodle’s brother and Squeaky previously displayed infinitesimal tolerance towards their younger siblings’ incapacity, the differences that it unfold in their stages of tolerance as the stories continue are relatively remarkable. Initially, a similarity relating to tolerance found in “The Scarlet Ibis” and “Raymond’s Run” is how both Squeaky and Brother both take care their disabled sibling. In the short story “The Scarlet Ibis,” Doodle was the younger brother who was born with physical disabilities. The narrator, who was known as Brother in the story supervises Doodle because he was determined to make Doodle to become his ideal brother. Specifically on paragraph 10 Brother remarked, “ When Doodle was five years old, I was embarrassed...

Metamorphosis in Frank Herbert's Dune

...Metamorphoses in Dune Alexandru Maniu In Dune, people can be both men and animals. For purely artistic reasons, the coexistence of different life forms under the same mask is a constant in Ovid’s Metamorphoses. In Orphism, nothing is immutable and everything is subject to change. For Ovid, this postulate must have had some limits generated by the artistic process: “nor can the arts that cure others cure their lord”. Transformed characters – so punished for ill behavior or challenging the gods – eventually acquire immortality, just like the poet himself. Deities can be either anthropomorphic or theriomorphic, yet they can change according to their own will and they don’t lose their divinity in the process. Ovid’s metamorphoses are usually final and the poor misfortunate loses some of his humanity forever. By far the cruelest fate is for one to lose his power of speech or his free-speech, as in the case of Acteon, changed into a stag, Callisto, changed into a bear or Lycon, who becomes a wolf. On a more subtle level, the nymph Echo is left only with the power of speech, but her words are not her own, as she is forced to repeat whatever she hears. All these stories cover a more complex level of understanding that deals with religion and ritual, and should not be taken as mere parables of morality. The myth of Artemis and Acteon encapsulates the confrontation between crude human conscience and the mystery of life, epitomized by the maternal deity (Isis, Artemis, Diana), with...

Alternate Ending to the Birds

...“I’ll smoke my last cigarette,” he said to his wife. “Stupid of me, it was the one thing I forgot to bring back from the farm.” He reached for it, switched on the silent wireless. He threw the empty packet on the fire, and watched it burn. As it burned he took a deep breath feeling a sort of calm, feeling that everything is over but deep in his heart he knew that those birds were going to come back. And at that moment he heard a tapping on the door. Once more, just like the beginning, and he turned his head around as fast as he could and peered at the door. He grabbed his rifle, marched towards the door, put a stern hand on the handle and pulled the door open with all the strength he could. Nat was furious! However when he opened the door he saw nothing there, except one small bird. His wife now behind him said, “ that is no harm to us at all, calm down Nat. Its just one small bird… actually not even a bird its only a chick.” Nat, now calm says, “ well thats true he doesn’t look like any harm.” and with that the bird made one small chirp and a swarm of majestic large birds swarmed into their home. Attacking both Nat and his wife. Screaming, the two ran as fast as they could heading towards the children but the birds had already got to them… blood splattered everywhere, on the walls, on the sheets, and the children lay there ripped to shreds from these disgusting, evil, birds. A large shrill scream came from Nat’s wife with one look at her kids and she collapsed to the...

...ROLE OF MEDIA IN CONDEMNING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN Ankita Yadav LL.M.- 2nd Semester Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University Phone No. -9453014362 Email Address- ankita2189yadav@gmail.com INTRODUCTION The media's the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they control the minds of the masses. - Malcolm X Media is considered fourth pillar of a country thus it has lots of responsibility towards society. Media in a democratic country is considered to be a pedagogue of freedom and making society aware about the realities by reporting. It has to reflect the realities of society and report the truth in order to protect the basic human rights especially of marginalised sections of society like women. In Indian society, woman occupies a vital position but unfortunately venerable place. The Vedas glorified women as the mother, the creator, one who gives life and worshipped her as a ‘Devi’ or Goddess. It can be inferred via a relatively high position occupied by the women in Rig Vedic era, where they were part of the governance institutes like Sabha and Samiti. India's major religion i.e Hinduism portrays women as a representation of power i.e. Shakti in the form of Durga and Kali. From Vedic period onwards to the mid of 19th century, the condition of women kept on deteriorating. They were excluded from education, property and cultural rituals, and their primary...
