Target has a goal of making its store viewed by the customers as having everything they could possibly need. Although research shows it is hard to change consumer’s habits. You go to different stores to get particular things, the mall to get clothes, the supermarket to buy food, why do that when you can do it all at once at Target. It has been proved that new parents are the people who change their shopping habits the most because of the chaos in their daily lives. Their goal is to attract young parents, in order for Target to do so they have to approach the parents at the right time. “Customers are “vulnerable to intervention by marketers” this quote helps to explain how easy it is to target new parents. They believe their flyers bring in new parents to purchase toys, clothes, food etc. Target basically wants to look like a super store. They have everything that anyone could need inside of the store.
Target has thought of sending out flyers to those whom are in their second trimester of their pregnancy. Identifying pregnant customers is harder than it sounds. It is easy to find new parents because birth records are public, that’s when most companies reach out. Target believes that if they can reach women in their second trimester of pregnancy they will continue to return to Target for years.
However, to make efforts to try and figure out which of their customers are expecting they created a baby shower registry. Target also have been trying to predict their pregnant customers by keeping track of what they buy and how much of it over a period of time. This could make women to feel as if Target is studying their lives if they are reaching out to them before their child is born and they know they’re collecting evidence based on what they purchase at the
