Jin-Han Quotes

Being a Korean and living in America during this time period would be extremely hard. Many Koreans were leaving Korea because life there was poor, unsafe, and hard. Although many thought that life would be easy in America, it wasn't that simple. In America Koreans had trouble fitting in and finding jobs because most of the spoke little or no english. Also, some people had prejudices against them because of their race or had trouble accepting them. Just like the Korean families in the story, such as the Parks, the Paks, and the Shins, a lot of Korean families moved from city to city in search for work and affordable living.

What did you particularly like or dislike about one of the characters?
One thing I like about Jin-Han is he is very easy going and mentally tough. Throughout the book he faces many challenges, but he doesn't get angry and complain, he just gos with the flow and stays strong and doesn't get upset or become depressed. An example of this is Jin-Han had to constantly move from city to city, but he didn't complain or get upset, he stays strong and tough.

What are your favorite quotes from the story? Explain why. …show more content…
The air coming into my lungs felt suddenly cleaner and more pure. I felt like I could see things past what was there. I felt light as a butterfly and deep as a tree. I was in a brand-new place, where I felt like I could understand what was happening. That it wouldn’t bowl me over. That I could carry it with me forever.” I like this quote because this is when Jin-Han realizes that his mom may be gone be he will never forget her as long as he lives and he knows she is in a better place. He feels new and clean and he know his mom will always be with him

Paper #1- Social Influences of the Analects in the Modern World

...1st paper- Social influences of the analects and Confucianism in the modern world Confucius and his teachings had contributed a lot to the Chinese philosophy and shaped the Chinese culture and society remarkably, especially in education and how people should behave themselves. With guidelines telling people what is acceptable, how to act like a nobleman and what is unethical, Confucianism shaped modern social norms in China, and its impact is also spreading to other countries that are beginning to practice Confucianism. The Analects was composed by Confucius’s student after his death to pass on his great teachings and completed in the Warring States period. It contained fundamental ideas and beliefs of Confucianism; across dynasties and generations, people have been implementing Confucian thoughts and the sayings from Analects as guidelines to their behaviors. In this paper, we will look at the meanings of several Analects’ passages, how they relate to Confucianism and what are their social significance to descendants. Perhaps one of the most famous sections from the Analects, the following saying from Analects of Confucius Book 1(Xue Er), verse 1 told us a little bit about how he thought about learning and how people should behave in certain circumstances: The Master said, "Is it not pleasant to learn with a constant perseverance and application? Is it not delightful to have friends coming from distant quarters? Is he not a man of complete virtue, who feels no discomposure...

La Singularidad

...NOTE: This PDF document has a handy set of “bookmarks” for it, which are accessible by pressing the Bookmarks tab on the left side of this window. ***************************************************** We are the last. The last generation to be unaugmented. The last generation to be intellectually alone. The last generation to be limited by our bodies. We are the first. The first generation to be augmented. The first generation to be intellectually together. The first generation to be limited only by our imaginations. We stand both before and after, balancing on the razor edge of the Event Horizon of the Singularity. That this sublime juxtapositional tautology has gone unnoticed until now is itself remarkable. We're so exquisitely privileged to be living in this time, to be born right on the precipice of the greatest paradigm shift in human history, the only thing that approaches the importance of that reality is finding like minds that realize the same, and being able to make some connection with them.
