...Joint Pain Seminar Unfortunately I was unable to attend the speaker series at the Metro Center. I was working an event at the hospital called “Reducing Joint Pain”. In the marketing department I have been working a lot in the program Spirit of Women. This program has several events and seminars throughout each season to help women with preventative health care. They range from Stress Management to Diabetes to Cancer etc. There is a doctor (sometimes two) that gives a presentation on the given topic and then gives the opportunity for questions after. Dr. Rishi Balkissoon and Dr. Katherine Rizzone both did a phenomenal job giving reasons for arthritis, what they can do to help, and what you should and shouldn’t do to help with your arthritis pain. I was working the event, but I actually learned quite a bit. I have had two knee surgeries (ACL) and I have joint pain because of it. They gave great advice for different kinds of shoes to wear and different things to try rather than going straight to the doctor, like physical therapy. I also learned that if you mix rubbing alcohol and water in a plastic bag and then freeze it, it creates a gel pack. Super easy and cheap! There are also a lot of lifestyle changes that can prevent surgery. Staying active is key. If you have a hard time moving around due to weight, Dr. Rizzone suggested using a pool.
