The Jori Lirette Case.
Victim: Jori Lirette
DOB: 04/08/2004
Address: 414 West 7th Street Thibodaux, LA 70301
Crime Date and Time: 08/14/2011 - 12:15PM approx.
Suspects: Jeremiah Wright
Suspect DOB: 06/22/1981
Address: 414 West 7th Street Thibodaux, LA 70301.
After passing in front of the house a motorist called 911, reporting that he believe he just saw a boy’s head in the house driveway located at 414 West 7th Street Thibodaux, LA, the first responder officer arrive at the address and found the head along with a nearby garbage bags that contained the victim’s dismembered parts. “When police arrived, Wright was sitting on the front porch. At first, he tried to tell the cops that the head and body on the sidewalk were pieces of a CPR dummy. However, he soon confessed to killing the child, saying he left Jori on the sidewalk so Jesslyn (Jori’s Mom) would "feel stupid when she saw the head."
As the lead investigator to the Jori Lirette case the first thing I would have address would have been the parents. It was clear that someone who commit such a heinous crime would has some deep psychological issues. A crime like this was definitely from someone who knew the victim. As the lead investigator it was a clear case, the evidence was seen the victim's head was seen the corner of the street and the weapon that was used was in the families possessions. Looking for the knife would have been an essential part to the search. The case was solved 30 minutes after the police arrive on the scene, because then Jeremiah Wright confesses that he killed his 7 years old son, Jori Lirette. He decapitated his disabled 7-year-old son because he had grown tired of caring for the boy, who had cerebral palsy and heart problems, and needed a feeding tube and used a wheelchair, police said. The evidence founded was instrumental in making an arrest. The DNA was preserved because the victims body parts were found in plastic bags. The father’s fingerprints from the saw blade were present and the clothes from Jori Lirette were made to ID the victim.
Details of the case:
“Police Capt. Kyle Cressione, Wright said he was angry about his breakup with longtime girlfriend Jesslyn Lirette, Jori's mother, and his pending eviction, the affidavit, filed as part of the court record, says. He was also “tired of taking care of the dummy” and upset that Jori soiled himself and Wright that morning, the papers say. He saw that as signs that “Jori was a dummy and not his son. He started contemplating on killing him,” the papers say. Jesslyn, intending to end the relationship, left the home at 8 a.m. Sunday to retrieve her truck, which she planned to use to take him to his mother's house, the papers say. Once she left, Wright picked Jori up and carried him to the kitchen sink, he told police. Wright said he did not want to look at Jori, so he put a plastic shopping bag over the boy's head. Jori gasped and started to cry when Wright first began to saw back and forth on Jori's neck with a saw from his toolbox, the report says. He next cut off Jori's limbs at the elbows and knees. The boy's body, clothed in a dark shirt and diaper, was found in the fetal position sealed inside a pair of plastic garbage bags, the papers say. His head was in the gravel parking area in front of the home, Wright told police, where Jesslyn would be sure to see it when she returned.
Type of Evidence:
Physical Evidence: All the evidence must contain a label with the following information:
Victims name (if known), Case number, Collector name and date. * Body Parts: They were found in three different plastic bags. The correct way to proceed is taking picture / sketches of any biological evidence with close-up and the entire location, all the body fluids need to be tested and taking samples before bagging it the use of latex gloves is very crucial during the investigation and collection of evidences, in this case the use of masks, shoe covers and hair cover. Each article should be package separately in a paper bag or well-ventilated box to avoid fungi and DNA –destroying bacteria. * The Kitchen Sink * The Saw Blade and Toolbox * The plastic Bags where the body parts where placed * The clothes and diaper
All of the above evidence where very important for the police investigator because they can help to determine the exact place, and the way of how the murder occurred. The Kitchen Sink evidence needs to be removed and placed in a sterile carton box since contain a biological evidence the container has to be ventilated to avoid any damage of the biological residues. The blade and all the contents on the toolbox were separately pictured, labeled, and packed. * DNA: Is necessary in this case to take DNA samples from each part of the body found it to confirm the identity of the victim. This evidence is take with at least 7cc of whole blood and placed in a sterile vacuum tube containing the preservative (EDTA). * Fingerprint: In this case having a suspect in custody makes easier to compare the fingerprints from the crime scene to him, the fingerprints were found in the toolbox, plastic bags, weapon (saw blade). The technique use to collected them include fingerprint dust, and fiberglass brushes, and special machine called the heated fuming cabinet, using the Iodine fuming technique, which is visualizing latent fingerprints by exposing them to iodine vapors. Also using the reflected ultraviolet imaging system with the aid of a UV lamp to search more fingerprints in the kitchen area. * Tool marks: During the autopsy was important to determined what was the murder weapon used during the crime and making impression and compared with the tools collected during the investigation was confirmed that the murder weapon was a saw blade.
Documentary Evidence: This type of evidence is all the statements made by the suspect(s) and witnesses. * Confession from the killer: 30 minutes after the police arrive on the scene, Jeremiah Wright confesses that he killed his 7 years old son. * Testimony of Jesslyn Lirette: Implying that almost as soon as Jori Lirette was born, his father Jeremiah Wright talked of killing him to put him out of his misery, according to a protection order mom Jesslyn Lirette got shortly after his birth.

Wright was deemed as incompetent to stand trial. Wright was originally booked on a First-degree murder charge. But the Lafourche Parish DA hasn't said whether he'll seek the death penalty.
