Judah And Jeremiah Research Paper

Isaiah and Jeremiah were both godly prophets, messengers of the Lord. Both were major prophets in the Old Testament, called to proclaim the will and word of God. Although each prophet lived a similar prophetic life, each spoke a different message. The life of the great prophet Isaiah goes like so. Isaiah was born unto Amoz. His name, meaning ‘Jehovah is Salvation’ was of great importance alone. He comes from a line of royalty. Isaiah married a prophetess and together they conceived of two sons, Shear-Jashub and Maher-shalal-hash-baz. The prior means ‘a remnant shall return’, while the latter means ‘speed the spoil, hasten the booty.’ In chapter one of Isaiah, we read that he received visions from God during the reigns of the four kings …show more content…
Pashhur, a priest sought to harm Jeremiah, had Jeremiah beaten and put in the stocks. The king allowed malicious men to arrest Jeremiah for prophesying of disaster. Even then, Jeremiah knew that he had to speak the message that God so commanded him to do. His hardships increased as his life drew on. Tradition even has it that horses dragged him all the way to Egypt, where Jewish exiles stoned him to death.
In his life, Jeremiah spoke as a ministering prophet because he would preach God’s word of warning to the tribe of Judah. He prophesied in Jerusalem in order to warn them to repent for their idolatry before the Babylonians would take them captive. They had begun to worship pagan gods, such as Baal.
Jeremiah spoke a message of warning to Judah. He spoke to them of their oncoming destruction if they did not repent. Jeremiah continually tells them to turn to God. God’s people broke God’s covenant with Him and outrightly forsook the correct worship of God and began worshipping idols. Jeremiah 9:4 says, “Because they have forsaken me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it unto other gods… Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that this place shall be called the valley of slaughter.” Judah was being immoral, adulterous, unrepentant in their idolatry, breaking the Sabbath, and being lying and

Babylon and the Old Empire

...Research Paper The Babylonian Empire and the Old Testament Submitted to Dr. Curtis Fitzgerald, Ph.D, In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the completion of the course OBST 520 LUO (Summer 2014) Old Testament Orientation II Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary Marcus Banks-Bey_L2444950 June 29, 2014 Thesis Statement This research paper will discuss, and review the history of the Babylion Empire, its rulers, and the Empire’s influential relationship upon some of the major events which developed within Old Testament literature. Introduction Through my research, it is my intent to identify significant points within the history of the Babylion Empire, including its origins, development, expansion, eventual decline, and why it became a focal point of many of the major events of the Old Testament. From the Great Empire of Akkad, Babylon became a major seat of learning, culture, and technology. More than simply a city-state of defiance, and sinful practices, Babylon’s influence, very often viewed through a negative scholarly lens, shaped the history of Asia Minor, Northern Africa, and the world when approached from a biblical standpoint. As such, Babylon remains a critical, powerful nation in relation to its nation-state of Israel, and Old Testament history. Nimrod The Cushite The first nation-state identified within contemporary Biblical literature is the land that is “Ethiopia”, as mentioned...

The Story Behind the Palms

...Farm Lessons One Step Poems Prayer USA Historical The Story Behind The Psalms by Dr. Jack Hyles PREFACE There are three books in the Bible from which I read every day—the Psalms, the Proverbs and the book of Acts. I read the Psalms for love, the Proverbs for wisdom and the book of Acts for power. These three things—love, wisdom and power have for years been on the top of my prayer list. One day while meditating on one of the Psalms, I found myself wondering where the author was when he wrote it, what the circumstances were surrounding its writing and what exactly prompted the author to compose such a masterpiece. I fled to the library of my memory and the refuge of my commentaries until my temporary search became long research. This venture was so enjoyable that I traveled the historical path of another Psalm, then another, then another, which soon led to a series of Bible studies at the First Baptist Church of Hammond on the conditions and circumstances surrounding the writing of each of the Psalms. It makes our study richer as we stand beside the author as he writes and as we feel his heartbeat, watch his tears, enjoy his laughter and join in his praise. May the author beg scholastic mercy of the reader. The following words were not penned to be examined by the microscope of the scholar but rather to be enjoyed by the study of the saint. With lovingkindness, a prayerful spirit and a desire to bless, let me lead you into the Psalms, the songbook of Israel...

Religion and Ethics in Our Modern Society

...Notes for the Course: Religion and Ethics in our Modern Society, 2012 By Dr H Ndlovu Definition and Nature of Christian Ethics Ethics is derived from the Greek word “ethos” that is also comes from another word “ethika.” Ethika means norms, conventions, values, customs the society. Thus ethics is a discipline that examines one’s moral standards or the moral of a society. These are absorbed from family, church and friends. Why Study Ethics There are nine reasons why human beings have to study ethics. 1. Human beings are capable of reasoning from cause to effect with the understanding that everything done has effect. 2. Human beings are capable of making choices after comparing the alternatives, that is, internal and external. People have two cells namely: a. Real – what we have now b. Ideal – what we are aiming at 3. Human beings are self – conscious. This means we can study ourselves by being a subject and be the object at the same time. 4. Human beings are finite or limited not knowing what will happen from the next moment or next door. Thus, we must have principles to apply when situations comes. 5. Human life is an active dynamic phenomenon – We do something as if we do nothing. 6. People also can be taught to be good (Isaiah 1 :18) 7. Human beings are capable of filing an obligation 8. Human beings are also capable of understanding what moral terms like freedom, dignity and so on affects other people. 9. Finally, human beings need to survive. Human civilization...
