He draws simply for the general public’s enjoyment and to earn money from his commission payment.
Beever continues to amaze the art world with his anamorphosis technique and his ability to express his artistic talent freely on the pavement. He is not only an artist but also a writer and released a biography containing photographs of his work.
TECHNIQUES
Beever uses a projection technique that creates a 3D illusion on the concrete base he draws on. This technique is called anamorphosis.
The anamorphosis technique is a distorted or deformed image that can only be properly viewed from a certain perspective. It appears to project outward to form a 3D image, in proportion. It can be viewed from a certain point of perspective, reflected from a curved mirror or through a polyhedron. Working on the open area of the pavement allows an odd viewpoint of the surface. It can appear to sink into the floor or rise out of the ground.
Julian Beever mainly uses the anamorphosis technique in his art. The open area is an advantage regarding projection; however, the chalk is easily washed away when it rains.
