Conflict Proposal

...D. Consulting appreciates the opportunity to develop a formal conflict management program for your firm, Hope Educational Services. As we have discussed, your grievance policy is simply not enough to cause your organization to be as effective as it needs to be. In our experience, it is essential for your leadership to understand how the conflict in your company can be an asset to them causing more productivity, growth and motivation. Simply trying to eliminate or ignore conflicts will only cause more unresolved conflicts in an organization. To begin, it is important to understand the 4 approaches to effective organizations: goal attainment, system resource, internal process and strategic constituencies. You will find that conflict resolution will not change or question your company’s structure, but will address the conflicts that are occurring within the system. Taking responsibility for the conflicts will lead to problem solving and learning that is invaluable to a productive organization such as yours. Goal attainment centered organizations care about reaching its primary mission or purpose and tries to measure its effectiveness according to how well they accomplish that goal by measuring the stock earnings or equity gains of the company. Sometimes the goals of the company, however, can be accomplished but not measured by the monetary profits of a company. Nonprofit companies must weigh their success by the programs developed and the people it serves in the community...

How to Communicate

...How to Communicate Derrik Green IT/284 12/18/2011 David Van Eeckhoute How to Communicate The state of affairs that Bill is facing as being a new customer has an amount of sympathy with the new client and the facility. Since Bill has just purchased new merchandise and is getting irritated with the buying process. To retain a well kept and friendly association with Bill being an imminent client and new customer, it is vital to the relationship to be handled with an adequate level of understanding and care. When interacting with Bill on the phone, the information that was given will hold quite a few nonverbal signs not seen. There will be a few cases of suggestions that should be acknowledged and instances of dead silence and just as domineering as an open statement. Bill is really frustrated and stating serious criticisms, and worries which may distract one from the key facts at hand. Communicating through the phone eliminates many of the bodily functions leading to a link with the customer. Certain physical responses and symbols will be detached such as facial lexes, hand emotions, fiddling or tapping and so on. To comprehend Bill’s temperament, and his complaints, I will have to have an observant ear to successfully create a true service to customer correlation. When stating his main worry I should listen for frequent words and repetitive remarks. I will also have in mind that some customers do not like to reprise, so keeping notes on the discussion is valuable when...

...5/11/2012 Permissions   A grievance is generally defined as a claim by an employee that he or she is adversely affected by the misinterpretation or misapplication of a written company policy or collectively bargained agreement. To address grievances, employers typically implement a grievance procedure. The grievance procedure may also be part of a collective bargaining agreement. A grievance procedure is a means of internal dispute resolution by which an employee may have his or her grievances addressed. Most collective bargaining agreements include procedures for filing and resolving grievances. Within a union environment, the processes will typically involve the employee, union representatives and members of the employer’s management team. Grievance processes may differ somewhat from employer to employer and under various collective bargaining agreements. However, most will have certain general processes in common. Grievances are brought to the employee’s immediate supervisor. This may be either an informal process or the beginning of the formal process. Generally, there will be a requirement that the grievance be submitted in writing using a grievance form. Usually, the supervisor and the union representative will review the grievance to determine whether it is valid. It is essential for organizational health and performance that conflict be accepted and addressed through effective conflict resolution processes. While having a conflict resolution structure is important, effective utilization of conflict resolution processes is ultimately dependant upon the ability of all parties to understand the benefits of conflict resolution, and perhaps more importantly, their desire to resolve the matter. While conflict is a normal part of any social and organizational setting, the challenge of conflict lies in how one chooses to deal with it. Concealed, avoided or otherwise ignored, conflict will likely fester only to grow into resentment, create withdrawal...

Decisions in Paradise Part 2

...The problem identification and formulation styles of each classmate’s employer varied, depending on the size and structure of the company. Karin works for an independently owned escrow company in California in which the partnered owners answer to the Department of Corrections and California Labor Laws only. This makes the problem identification process difficult because the owners do not follow any guidelines or protocol when resolving issues or identifying problems. Kristi can relate to Karin’s employer as she works for a nonprofit organization in which identifying the problem and action taken is difficult and slow. The nonprofit organization has upper-management, which is who employees report any problems to, but because of limited resources, action is slow, nonexistent, or taken over by the IT department. Some problem solving techniques involve getting together in groups and discussing what the problem is and how it can be resolved. Oscar’s employer Raytheon Missile System solves problems by using this method. The only issue is that sometimes it leads to managers not going by the books and doing what they want to do. Denise and Jamie work for million dollar corporations and for larger problems to be resolved it may take months until problems are fixed. Small problems are handled at the site level and are most likely fixed quickly. Both employers use a chain-of-command with management, and depending on the severity of the problem is how far it will go up that chain. Collaboration...

Fundamentals

...Assignment 1: Fundamentals of Effective Communication in the Workplace Professor BUS 100 – Introduction to Business May 13, 2014 I work for a defense attorney, and I experience effective communication on a daily basis via email with co-workers and clients. However, I do feel that face-to-face communication is highly effective and important. With face-to-face meeting, the co-workers and clients directly receive the message, and feedback is instantly provided. Resolutions can be made easier during a face-to-face meeting rather than via email or phone conversations. About six months ago I was part of a financial turn around that was a result of successful face-to-face communication. The firm’s office that I work for is called McCallum Law Offices, and my position in the department is senior paralegal and office manager. We work closely with the justice department and handling the financial and critical situations of our client’s lives. A main part of my job was to reconcile financial reports, and have the senior attorney approve them, and then submit them for reimbursement. We were having major issues with the financials and how they accounts were being handled. As with most offices now communication is usually handled via e-mail. When you start having issues like we were, there is only one way to handle this and that is for everyone to be face to face. So if there are any issues they can be resolved immediately. Attorney offices can become very hectic...

Workplace Conflict

...Jenn Hoffman Human Capital Essay #2 MGT344 Organizational Behavior August 4, 2013 Introduction: The purpose of this paper is to discuss what role conflict plays in the workplace. Conflict can be defined in a few different ways. “Conflict is an expressed struggle between at least two interdependent parties who perceive incompatible goals, scare resources, and interference from others in achieving their goals” (Definition of Conflict). Conflict is bound to happen, and to occur even in the most stable companies. Conflicts can be both positive and negative influences in a workplace. Constructive conflict creates a productive and safe place. Unresolved conflicts on the other hand, creates a hostile environment leading to a reduction in productivity. Conflict can be divided into multiple categories. Conflicts often occur when there are conflicting choices or people want different things. Changes within an organization can also create conflict. Finding a solution to reach a good solution is how conflicts are resolved. Conflict in the workplace is largely a result of changes. Employees often are required to adjust to new rules, management and locations. Tenure employees may refuse to break old habits and experience difficulties adjusting to new guidelines. All of these changes will create conflict. Being prepared to deal with the conflict is the important part. Change means something familiar is replaced with something new. These changes can cause employees to be emotional...
