INDRODUCTION It can be very challenging for an adult returning into further education as many will not have been in a learning environment for some time. There will be many different personalities and learning styles within the group of learners and each learner will bring different skills, experiences and knowledge into the classroom. It is the teacher’s responsibility to make teaching and learning effective and they will need to know the learner as much as possible. A teacher is responsible for meeting the needs of different individuals or different groups of students who are learning together at any time. It is essential that a teacher must find a method of differentiating between learners in order to personalise learning to individual needs. This can be done by introducing a number of Initial and diagnostic assessments at the start of the students learning.

It is an essential part of the learners needs to carry out assessments and was recognised as far back as 1904 when Alfred Binet, a French psychologist, developed the first intelligence test, which was to spark of the interest in individual variations. Since 1904 there have been many different tools developed to define the differences in learning styles (http://www.ehow.com/about_5381758_history-learning-styles).

A) Identify a range of initial and diagnostic assessment tools:
Initial and diagnostic assessments should involve a range of different styles and approaches, as each assessment will enable you to learn more about your student skills and identify their individual needs. There are a number of initial diagnostic assessments that a teacher can use to get to know their learner i.e. talking to the learner during an initial interview, paper based and computer based assessment, learning styles questionnaire and a VAK learning styles assessment. Two specific diagnostic assessment tools

The Threshold of Revelation

...DECKER JONAS. He is tall and striking, wearing jeans, a t-shirt, and a hoodie. The camera then circles behind Decker going from left to right, catching Deckers view of the city at sunset. As the camera completes its half circle to the right and comes to a complete stop at DECKER’S ¾ profile we see he is holding a piece of paper, it is folded, he unfolds the paper and begins to read, a voice over begins. It is Decker’s voice. DECKER: Mom. Dad. I feel as though I’m losing myself again. [ 1. PAN to OS Right showing the letter] I know I am. I can feel life spinning away from me, and this time I have nothing to hold on to. Its as though I’m on one of those tacky carnival rides that Dad would take me on at Edgewater Days when I was a kid, although now he’s not there to hold me in. I can feel it, I’m losing control. [ 2. Rotate to the right and pull back to the previous position] I know that, this time, there is no going back. And I also know that I can’t put anyone else through another one of these trying times. So I am doing the only sensible option I have left. [ 3. Slow PAN left so DECKER is almost out of frame. In the distance, we see a figure walking...

Hiring the Right Employee

...today? It really is about whom you know; what you know helps too. Add onto that that you need to do extensive research on the company you will interview for and hope that they have done their own research on you such as call your references at least. But how far is a company willing to go to find out what kind of person you are before that initial interview? Some companies go as far as checking out your Facebook page, as well as your LinkedIn page, I don’t believe this is acceptable, nor do I think a potential employee should go to that length either. Have you ever heard the phrase it’s not about who you know, it’s about what you know? Well, today that is not always the case. Networking is very important when looking for that perfect fit job. You might ask, “What is networking?” Networking is a support system of information sharing and services (jobs) among individuals and groups having a common interest (dictionary.com). There are several ways of networking, some more common are over the internet and advertised or hidden market jobs (No One Will Hire Me). Advertised are just that, they are jobs found in the classified ads, or posted on websites such as Monster.com or CorridorCareers.com. Hidden jobs are the unadvertised jobs, or those that are word of mouth. Sometimes these are the best jobs and often pay more and have a more promising future. Internet is a great way to network as well, there are many sites out there that help you understand and help develop your...

...topics in the course. This book is meant to be used in conjunction with the course work I have created for you. But here’s what you have to understand: this is not your typical finance course that just deals with money. Over the years, I have learned that I can tell you everything you need to do with money, but I can’t make you take action. Clearly, something must be preventing you from doing the things you know you should do. The goal of this course is both to teach you what to do with money and to help you remove those obstacles. Money is the currency of life. It is a physical manifestation of who you are. You are the one who goes out and earns a paycheck. You are the one who decides to take that paycheck and spend it, save it, or invest it. If you don’t have all the money you want in your life right now, then I am going to ask you to go within to discover why you are doing without. So, then the question becomes, Who are you and what must you do to bring the money you need and want into your life? And that is what makes this course di erent from any other personal finance course that has ever been o ered. It deals with the who—meaning you—and not just the what of money. v A Note from Suze I hope that in general you feel powerful and in control of your life. But do you really feel powerful and in control when it comes to your money? If you are like most people, you do not. As we grow, we claim our power in one way or another: We take on jobs, start families, and strive...

...Diary Entries Week 4 1960s Diary Entries Witness and store own to Watts Riots Aug. 13, 1965 I am fearful of the riots that have been growing now for a couple of days. They are getting more violent and have heard that they are looting stores. I am more afraid that they may try and get into my store and take everything. There are signs that there was some looting already on this street. There are many youths, standing on the streets still littered with broken glass and debris from the previous night’s melee. The crowd stared unsuspectingly at me whenever I come out of my store to gauge how things are. Around 4 pm a car had stopped in the street, blocking traffic after being hit repeatedly by rocks and bricks. A police car raced down the street by my store, rounding up three youths. A car drove by a short time later driven by a white man and I heard someone yelled out, “It’s a white man, get him.” A barrage of bricks and rocks struck the car, knocking out windows and leaving ugly dents. The driver lowered his head from sight and accelerated. Thank goodness he was able to get away. Aug. 14 1965 Today is not looking any better than it did yesterday. More and more people are loitering in the streets. I went to go outside and heard remarks that maybe they should start looting the stores. Well I rushed back inside and locked up. I had a gun under the register that I got out so I could scare of anyone who tried to break in. A short time later, a group of about 20...

...(UPCAT) is just around the corner and you are surfing the Net, joining forums about THE test and looking for “special tips” for taking the examination, aren’t you? I see you. I cannot help but remember how chill I was on my exam day.  It was not really because I was so confident that I knew everything the premier state university expected me to know. I think it was more because I did not even think I would make the cut. I did not get to attend any review class nor did I buy all the best and recommended UPCAT reviewers. As many UPCAT passers will tell you, it is not really about how much you have studied the summer before for the entrance exams but how much you have learned in school since Day 1. “UPCAT is not a day but a season. It started the day you realized you needed to work hard for your high school grades so it could help you ace the test. UPCAT … started when you began to hope to be an Iskolar ng Bayan,” says broadcast communication graduate Joseph Cataan. All you need for UPCAT are refreshers because, as they say, “you already know what you know.” I was also calm and cool about the whole thing because I was never pressured by my parents. On UPCAT day, my dad said, “Just do what you have to do.” And so I did. People will tell you that getting into UP is not the be-all and end-all but it pays to be assured that you did your part, from pre- to post-exam. Code

..."The code of the streets is actually a cultural adaptation to a profound lack of faith in the police and the judicial system. The police are most often seen as representing the dominant white society and not caring to protect inner- city residents. When called, they may not respond, which is one reason many residents feel they must be prepared to take extraordinary measures to defend themselves and their loved ones against those who are inclined to aggression. Lack of police accountability has in fact been incorporated into the status system: the person who is believed capable of "taking care of himself" is accorded a certain deference, which translates into a sense of physical and psychological control. Thus the street code emerges where the influence of the police ends and personal responsibility for one's safety is felt to begin. Exacerbated by the proliferation of drugs and easy access to guns, this volatile situation results in the ability of the street oriented minority (or those who effectively "go for bad") to dominate the public spaces." (Anderson, Code of the Street). Anderson main argument in his research is that the behavior of many youths is influenced by the street culture or code. This “code” governs how youth from the inner city will react in a violent manor when faced with impersonal attacks or any show of disrespect. Through Anderson’s study he was able to give us the day to day struggle for some inner city children, and why they were unable to express nothing...

...Student in the World Needs to Know Sandeep Krishnamurthy http://faculty.washington.edu/sandeep 1 Management ≠ analysis. What you are learning in school is analysis. You are being taught tools and techniques. Analysis is just one of the ingredients in the recipe. You may have the best analysis in the room. However, if your analysis is not heard and taken seriously, it is of no value. Too often, talented people with the best answers sit in the back of the room while hacks run the show. If you enjoy the view from the back, getting an MBA will not change anything. A MBA degree only works if you are willing to transform yourself. Are you? 2 Einstein would have been a terrible manager. There is a huge misconception among students that being smart is the way to be successful. Let me break this to you. It is not about being smart. There are many smart people who are absolutely incompetent managers. Not to mention the fact that many smart people are first-rate jerks. Don’t get me wrong. I am not saying you have to be dumb to succeed. What I am saying is that you do not have to be a Mensan to make it to the top. All you need is average intelligence. But, you need other qualities. 3 Bill Clinton would have been an excellent manager. The man had his faults. But, he could communicate like few others. Street Vending

...Abstract Various factors influence people‘s choice of trading location. This paper analyses why street vendors despite the provision of formal market infrastructure still decide to trade from the streets. Theories of the informal economy were adopted to get insights into the issues of street vending. Based on survey results the study establishes that for street vendors accessibility of customers is a key consideration and they strategically locate on the streets to avoid formalisation costs such as rent, taxes and licences. Whereas for market traders selling from the formal market, a secure and clean environment is important. Therefore, policies of the informal economy should take into account the nuances and heterogeneity of the sector, in that, governments should come up with more inclusive policies that will accommodate all traders according to their practical needs and not perceived needs such as building formal market infrastructure for all. Street Vending Street vending is one of the most visible activities in the informal economy and is found everywhere in the world, both in developed and developing countries. It has been defined in many different ways by various authors. However, a common theme among definitions is the location of trade. It may include trading without a permit, trading outside formally designated trading locations and non-payment of municipal/national taxes or self allocation of shelter for trading (Lyons, M. and S. Snoxell 2005: 1304)...
