Music Project: Knoxville: Summer of 1915 Knoxville: Summer of 1915 is typical twentieth century music features. It has most 20th century music features such as expressionist music inside dissolution of tonality, extreme contrasts of dynamics and constantly changing textures. Also, Knoxville: Summer of 1915 have soprano solo and orchestra which include vocal solos, orchestral music, and a few piano pieces and operas, soprano has a more rounded sound and color and extremely unique voice. In the rhythm, it has three parts is duple meter and high pitch part is compounds meter which music as a high pitch sound corresponds to sound wave are high frequency. For the Leontyne Price. She’s full name is Mary Violet Leontyne Price, born February 10, 1927, Laurel, Mississippi, is an American soprano. She was in the fifties and sixties by a wide range of international acclaim, also she was one of the first African Americans to become a leading artist at the Metropolitan Opera. She performers the song Knoxville: Summer of 1995 at Carnegie Hall. 1959 and the song was included in her discography “Leontyne Price Sings Barber, RCA, 1968” . The interesting fact is Leontyne Price and Samuel Barber are friends. In the 1953 recording features the 26-year-old Leontyne Price, stay by Samuel Barber. Barber began studying piano at the age of six. The following year he wrote his first composition, a piano piece entitled Sadness. When he was nine, Barber planned a full-length opera. While he was attending high school, Barber performed for Harold Randolph, director of the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore. Randolph advised Barber to devote himself entirely to music and encouraged him to apply to the Curtis Institute, a newly founded school of music in Philadelphia. At the institute, Barber studied piano, composition, and singing. In 1928, he received the Bearns Prize for a violin sonata. However, it was not until several years later, when Barber wrote two highly innovative orchestral works that he became recognized as a composer of considerable status. The first of these works was Overture to the School for Scandal which brought Barber the Bearns Prize for a second time. The second was Music for a Scene from Shelley, a piece inspired by Prometheus Unbound by Percy Bysshe Shelley. After winning the Prix de Rome, Barber settled in Rome at the American Academy. There he composed his first symphony, the Symphony in One Movement , in which he compressed four sections of a traditional symphony into one
