Abstract
Kudler Fine Foods, an upscale specialty gourmet foods shop with three locations (La Jolla, Del Mar and Encinitas), has an expressed interest in the development of a Frequent Shopper Program to enable enhanced information management by tracking customer-purchasing practices. The information collected regarding customer purchase behaviors through the Frequent Shopper Program will improve the quality of Kudler Fine Foods’ product lines and reduce the quantities of perishables discarded. To increase revenue and customer loyalty, and as an alternative to providing discounts, Kudler Fine Foods has partnered with a loyalty points program to offer incentives for customer loyalty in the form of high-end rewards for shopping at Kudler Fine Foods. Customers will earn points with every purchase, redeemable for high-value gift items such as first-class airline upgrades, and other specialty items (Apollo Group, Inc., 2007). Facilitating this effort will require systems planning and selection as well as current and proposed systems analysis and design, in conjunction with systems implementation and integration, training, operations, and maintenance.

KFF has decided to incorporate a frequent shopper program to award loyalty points for redemption in order to increase their revenue. Kudler Fine Foods is planning to track purchase behavior at the individual customer level, and will provide incentives through a partnership with a loyalty point program. Partnering with a loyalty point program company, customers will be able to redeem points for gifts such as, five cents off each gallon of gas purchased, ten dollars towards next grocery shopping trip, or perhaps tickets to local shows in order to keep the community involved. By using the customer data KFF plans to compile customer purchase behavior patterns, which will help them refine company processes and offerings to best satisfy their customers’ needs. (Apollo, 2009) There are several security issues that must be addressed prior to executing any plans for the loyalty point program. Information security concerns such as confidential customer information needs to be protected from unauthorized access and use, legal concerns regarding privacy rights, and ethical concerns when it comes to what a customer would want to give, and how they might like to be...

In an effort to boost revenue, KFF is seeking to launch a shopper rewards program. These types of systems are very common in most grocery store chains around the world offering discounts on in store products, however KFF is determined to cater to the demographic of their shoppers by taking this program a step further. The system specific to KFF needs includes a reward points system designed to provide the customer exclusive offers on both in store products and with third party partners. ...Service Request SR-kf-013 Stephen Gowen BSA/310 BUSINESS SYSTEMS 03 January 2012 Becky Hoff Service Request SR-kf-013 Ever wonder why certain banners or advertisements seem to contain information you are or were interested in? Online consumer behavior is being tracked all over the world-wide-web via cookies, Flash cookies, and “Web beacons” such as Omniture. Ad networks utilize information collected via various Javascripts and/or cookies to dynamically create content for users. One such Ad network called BlueKai actually allows its users to see a visual representation of the data being collected and shared about them. The amount and variety of data contained in user cookies alone is simply staggering! Many consumers today are beginning to wonder whether or not their privacy is at risk. With that in mind, proposing a system that tracks online shopping behavior introduces quite a few risks. Legal Concerns Where PII (Personally Identifiable Information) is concerned, so is the law. When handling behavioral data of any kind, it must be stored securely. If any PII is collected, certain disclaimers, agreements, opt-out opportunities, etc. must be in place in order to refrain from attracting legal attention. Cookies must be handled delicately as well, especially if they utilized to track users on our shopping platform. When a user deletes his or her cookies, that user should become a new user on our network. Holding onto a user’s cookies against his...

In this paper I will discuss the potential legal, ethical, and specific costs related to the issues of developing a frequent shopper program. Finally, I will discuss how this information system has an effect on the organizational structure. The loyalty rewards program has many benefits to both the customer and the company; however, there are legal concerns that must be addressed. Membership will begin on a sign-up basis. Customers who want a membership will provide personal information and be subjected to legal terms, privacy agreements, and security policies. Sensitive data is collected at different times in conjunction with loyalty programs. The first instance is created during the loyalty card application. The second instance develops when purchases are recorded, and finally when the spending histories are recorded; creating a consumer profile. Kudler has illustrated what information it will collect in the Database Diagram – PNG under customer...
