Over the course of 2016-2017 school year, my school’s Child Study team and RTI teams have made several referrals to the LSC team. All of the referrals show years of interventions that have been put in place to support specific students and the outcome of those supports on student achievement. The majority of the students referred have made little to know progress with the supports and interventions that they have. It is my job as the LSC chair to organize and facilitate all LSC meetings when a referral is given. As previously stated, we discuss the students’ history which includes scholastic record, classroom-based observations, academic achievement and related developmental needs of the student, student intervention, and parent input. With as much data that we have to show a pattern of underachievement even with supports and …show more content…
His father always seemed eager to try any strategies the school recommended at home; however, he normally made it very clear that he felt that there was nothing wrong with his son. Fortunately, his father agreed to meet with the LSC team this year after the referral was made by his teacher. AE’s father requested to attend the meeting by phone. The day before the meeting, he emailed me asking to reschedule. Due to the 10 day timeline federally mandated, the LSC team had to meet. A follow-up phone conference was scheduled between AE’s dad and the LSC team was scheduled for the next week. The documentation from the LSC meeting was sent home for AE’s father to review. AE’s father did give consent to have him evaluated after the follow-up phone conference. Before testing begin, a dual language assessment was conducted to see if the evaluations should be done in his native language or English. The results indicated that AE new more English than this native language; therefore all assessments should be administered in
