La vaca
One of the things that impact me the most when i was reading this book was describing me in some aspects of my life. I have always lived with some thoughts that have limited my life in certain way.
As the book said, the mediocrity and conformism always give us the bad idea that we cannot be better than we are now. And in some cases we have to face some rude situation, like the family of the book that lost the cow, to reorganize our thoughts and ideas in order to be different and reach different goals
The book said that the limitations are created by ourselves, and that is totally true, and I speak by myself. At the time I read this quote I was imagine myself nowadays in the university, the way I suffer every time that I have to make a presentation in front of my classmates, it is so hard, but now after I read this I realized that it is a vaca that I was feeding since I was a kid and I have to take the decision to kill it
One aspect that I want to take into account and also to add to this great book is the felling to be less than others. It is a big cow in my life and this book showed the way how to overcome it. I always had the feeling that everyone around me is better than me at the time to speak in English, I can imagine all the words and phrases in my mind, but at the time that I have to speak and my classmates stare at me I panic and I start to think that I am not good enough to do what I have to do; I remember a lot of opportunities that I lost because of my fear to do something…..but that was until today..
This book presents us different kind of vacas that can be affecting our lives, I just added one that was affecting my life. One of the greatest are the excuses that we create when we think that we are not able to do something. Excuses are part of our daily life, because we let it to be.
I have lost, and I continue talking about my own experience, a lot of opportunities in my life because I let the vacas controlled my destiny. There was I time that I was unemployed and I was looking for a job everywhere. I assisted to a lot of job fairs but I always passed the ones that require certain level in English, I never found a job in a job fair because of that.
The vaca number two, which to me was really interesting was that we do not see the reality of things. This is very common in a couple, mostly in women that have lived always with an aggressor. They refuse to see what is going wrong, believing in a sudden change of their husband, phrases like “he is the love of my life”, “I can live without him”, “my life will not be the same” are very common in this cases. One of the things that I learn of this vaca is that happiness do not depend of others, you create your own destiny and happiness depend of you not of everyone else.
Vaca number three that we can find in this book is fear; in my opinion it is closely related with excuses because when we have fear we use excuses to not face the situation. Just like I used to do. Fear to do something and fear to be rejected for someone. When I was younger I lost the opportunity with a lot of women because I was afraid to be rejected and later on I realize that she felt the same way to me but it was too late. This is a funny story but it is true and is closely related to fear. I could spent four hours sitting beside a woman in a bus trip, and I preferred to listen music instead of say hi to her.
Justifications are the vaca number four that we can find, people use justifications in order to avoid responsibilities, I used to use justifications and there are big problem when justification become in a daily bread in our lives.
There is interesting to read how this vacas mark our lives since we are kids, in sometimes limitations are imposed by the society or our families. In some cases the way we grew up is the one that determine our destiny. Most of the people believe that is they come from a humble or poor family that is the way that they have to live their entire live. We are the ones that established the limits of our lives and the ones that have to break that paradigm.
Finally I want to add another interesting quote that I find very interesting: “our future does not have to equal to our past.” Totally true and is a true that since now I going to apply in my life. It is going to be difficult but nothing is easy in this live and I sure that before Seminario II my presentations fear is going to be overcome.
Thanks for this amazing book.

Educational Essay "La Vaca"

...DEPARTAMENTO DE INGLÉS SEDE REGIONAL GRECIA LICENCIATURA EN LA ENSEÑANZA DEL INGLÉS LIN-08 INVESTIGACIÓN EDUCATIVA “LA VACA” WRITTEN REPORT BY Daython Winston I - 2016 The book “La vaca” is definitely one of the best stories for self-development and personal growth. It is a story to get rid of mediocrity, false beliefs, delusion, excuses and even procrastination. “Vacas” are defined as anything that is related to negative thinking that we create for ourselves, to justify or excuse our own incapacity to keep moving forward. “La vaca simboliza todo aquello que te mantiene atado a la mediocridad. Una vaca puede ser una excusa. Una vaca también puede ser un pensamiento irracional que te paraliza y no te deja actuar.” (Cruz, 2003, p. 8) Under these circumstances, this story may not only be suitable for a specific person, but rather everyone who is willing to take the first step to move away from his or her comfort zone. In fact, this is one of the most difficult decisions. People usually feel very peaceful in their comfort zone. Many of them even does not consider it a problem at all, and this makes one of the biggest “vaca” in any area of a person`s life. “Muchas personas no son conscientes de las vacas que tienen; otras son conscientes de ellas, pero, igual, las siguen cuidando y alimentando, ¿por qué? Por una sencilla razón, porque las vacas nos proveen una zona de comfort, una excusa.” (Cruz, 2003, p. 12) Most of these type of people...

Cabeza De Vaca La Relacion

...It is often said that the tradition of American generosity and compassion began with the Native Americans. This is prominent in the report “La Relacion” by Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca, where he details his experience with the Karankawa people and their generosity in his time of need. Cabeza de Vaca and his men fell to the mercy of the Karankawa people on Galveston Island, when he was on the brink of death, and starvation had its clutches on his crew. However the generosity and kindness of the Native Americans allowed the emaciated men to prevail during trying times. Cabeza de Vaca writes “The Indians appeared… bringing an abundance of fish and of certain roots”(Vaca 74). Even without a prior relationship, the Native Americans helped the desperate...

Cabeza De Vaca Research Paper

...Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca was born around 1490 and lived in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. His father was Don Francisco de Vera and his mother was Dona Teresa Cabeza de Vaca. Alvar was one of six children. Cabeza de Vaca was first employed by the military and left to Italy where he would start his service in 1511. He was under Charles the fifth’s rule when he and an army of men fought the battle of Ravenna before returning to Spain in 1512. After the Battle of Ravenna when Cabeza de Vaca went back to spain he ended up working for the duke of medina sidonia. His service for the duke took up many years. In 1520 Cabeza de Vaca got married to a lady by the name of Maria Marmolejo but he rarely spoke of her. On June 17 1527 Panfilo Narvaez was sent to conquer and colonize in Florida. Aiding Panfilo was a crew of 400 men in five ships all moving toward Florida. Their goal was to conquer and govern from the palmas river to the cape of Florida. Cabeza de Vaca was appointed treasurer and second in command of this expedition....

Cabeza De Vaca Thesis

...Cabeza de Vaca Sure you’ve taken family vacations, you’ve maybe even dared to travel to a different country, but so did Cabeza de Vaca. Only, his travels weren’t exactly like a vacation. Cabeza’s long and treacherous journey across what was soon-to-be-America was more referred to as an expedition. An expedition to conquer and colonize Florida with 600 other men, but the plan later turned sour and it turned into a fight for survival. Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca’s surname was granted the meaning of “Cow Head.” Since we can’t be sure when Cabeza de Vaca was born, it is a safe assumption to form the hypothesis that he was born any time period ranging from 1487-1492. Most think he was born somewhere around 1491. One fact that we know for sure is that he was born in Jerez de Frontera, Spain. Orphaned as an older boy, he later joined the Spaniard military as a young adult. He worked his way up to the positions of Treasurer and First Lieutenant for an expedition to conquer and colonize all the land between Florida and Rio de las Palmas, which in present day is located near Tampico, Mexico. Panfilo de Narvaez was in charge of the expedition. With five ships and about 600 men the expedition left Spain in 1527. The five ships sailed until...

But each of the writers in this unit (De Vaca, Bradford, and Equiano) went beyond merely reporting the facts; they had other, more personal reasons for writing what they did. Each of them had a personal agenda. Equiano’s personal agenda in The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano was to shame his white audience into abolishing the slave trade by describing the horrible events that took place on the ship. While he did state facts about the ship, Equiano described personal experiences to persuade the audience more. For example, Equiano describes the smell of the hold as being “…so intolerably loathsome, that it was dangerous to...

Naufragios Essay
