Busi 520 - Mmgt Market Review

...Market Analysis The Consumer Market Cultural and Social factors influencing consumer purchasing. Cultural and social environments can be attributed to many of the decisions people make such as what clothes to wear, what music to listen to, how competitive we are, and even how environmentally conservative we are. Kotler and Keller (2014) define cultural influences to consumer behavior as “key institutions… [governing the way] a child grows up” in one country compared to a child in another (pp. 152-153), or other specific subculture identifications such as “nationalities, religions, [or] racial groups…” (Kotler & Keller) A vast amount of research has been done on environmental topics which “have emerged as one of the most important economic policy issues… and many view energy efficiency… [would help] to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.” (Allcott, 2011) “cultural knowledge includes implicit theories about the world we live in that are largely shared by the members of our society.” (LaPlante, 2005) Thus, the popular beliefs amongst one’s peers in conjunction with widespread word of mouth lend to similar thoughts amongst the ‘Generation Y’ demographic. The speculation of global warming and climate change has sparked many people to begin trying to make changes in the way their lives are lived, including installing devices that can make their homes ‘smarter’, and more environmentally friendly. Energy conservation, and environmental issues are very important topics in the...

...VENDOR PROFILE HCL Technologies — Vendor Profile Series for R&D/Product Engineering Services Mukesh Dialani IDC OPINION As HCL Technologies likes to put it, product engineering is in its DNA. Since inception of its group operations more than 30 years ago, the company has invested in creating technology products and offering engineering services to its customers. Until recently, its focus was to position itself as a "technology services provider." IDC believes that in order to scale revenue and utilize its assets more productively, the strategy has changed since the past five to six years to include other IT services offering. As a result, engineering and R&D services now contribute to approximately 26% of HCL Technologies' total revenue. IDC has made the following observations: ! It is commendable to note that revenue for R&D/product engineering services has risen by 40%, while head count has risen only by approximately 24%. This indicates that HCL is successfully optimizing the use of its resources. ! Among its various initiatives, its Global Risk Reward Partnership (GRRP) model is unique and does enable it to create differentiation. However, success of this partnership will be determined by analyzing customer adoption over the next 2–3 years. ! HCL Technologies has created a sound and robust ecosystem consisting of partnerships, alliances with educational institutions, and manpower certification. ! It has acquired more than 270 customers and its top 10 customers contribute...

Ifrs vs. Gaap: Concerns About Lifo

...international standards, LIFO has become a major issue. First it must Although GAAP currently allows the use of LIFO, entities must still abide to the Sec. 472(c) – LIFO conformity rule – in which the same inventory cost method must be used on financial statements and on income tax returns. This can be a problem for multinational companies since LIFO is not allowed under IFRS. Multinational businesses would need to provide reporting information that follows both GAAP and IFRS. This could be a very costly process. What would happen if LIFO were no longer allowed? This is an even more important issue among many companies since it is estimated that about 36% of U.S. companies use LIFO (“Georgia Tech Financial Analysis Lab Releases LIFO Study,”IFRS.com). In the a study performed by Georgia Tech, they found that out of 30 sample companies, they estimated “that the cumulative taxes due on the switch to LIFO, to be paid over a four-year period, would total over $15 billion.” In an article, “Must LIFO Go to Make Way for IFRS?” by Michael J.R. Hoffman, Hoffman pointed out some shocking figures. He stated that United Technologies would have to pay out as much as $60 million in tax if they were to switch from LIFO, based on their 2007 reporting. Looking at...

Nutritional Analysis

...Nutritional Analysis of Horse Feed Darrie Lewis Partnered with Danielle Henry Introduction Animal nutrition is essential for meeting livestock nutritional requirements in maintaining acceptable performance, growth, and development. Animal nutrition focuses on dietary needs of domestic animals in agriculture or food production. In order to properly give the right balance of nutritional needs, one must know what the animal need in order to properly grow and develop. The amount of feed one gives to an animal should include an overall balance of essential nutrients to ensure successful production. An optimal nutritious diet should include intakes of amino acids, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals. The importance and our overall objective of this lab was to determine the different nutritional aspects in animal feed. In our case, my group and I analyzed horse feed. Advanced Medical Technology Corporation

...in excess of 30% annually. However, it should be noted that Peter Haskins, AMT President, believes that the sales trend the company has experienced will continue and if the company fails to meet sales demand it will compromise it’s market position. Thus far, AMT has relied on short term credit, lease agreements, and the establishment of a connection with Biological Labs Inc. to meet the demand for their products and continue R&D patterns. Peter Haskins recently approached our bank because he had become dissatisfied with his loan agreement of $6 million at Sunnyvale Bank. Mr. Haskins explained that Sunnyvale Bank did not make an effort to understand his company and that they had adopted a very restrictive attitude that has limited AMT’s room for expansion. In the body of the memo we will provide the following: a general analysis, financial statement analysis, a review of the 5 C’s of Credit, and an investigation of Biological Labs ability to back AMT. At the conclusion of this memo we will offer our opinion as to whether or not a line of credit should be extended to AMT Corporation. General Analysis 1. Market Characteristics The medical instrument industry features fast growth, fierce competition and heavy investment in technology. 2. Products AMT develops and manufactures state-of-art medical instruments which require a significant amount of capital investment which...

James Martin/CNET SEATTLE--I arrived in the tech-revitalized, hipster neighborhood of Pioneer Square on a crisp December morning, eager to see HTC's Creative Labs studio and meet up with the team of designers responsible for the novel interface software that fronts the Taiwanese-maker's smartphones. There was just one problem: I couldn't find the place. The typical sign with a corporate logo, emblazoned in bold letters, was nowhere to be found. There wasn't even a tiny nameplate anywhere. After a careful search, I stood before a nondescript door that was sandwiched between an Italian restaurant and a hair salon. The shops, housed in a contemporary commercial brick building, both fit in with the colorful vibe of the area, but home to a branch of a global smartphone company? "We don't do much in the official way here," said Drew Bamford, head of Creative Labs. Its near-invisible profile in Pioneer Square seems fitting considering HTC's history of crafting eye-catching metal-clad smartphones, like the HTC One M8, only to have them ignored in favor of 1 Agony and HTC: How an underdog phone...
