Is winning real when all you do is cheat? All athletes must remain determined and passionate in order to succeed. However, there are ways several athletes may attempt to succeed unlawfully. Blood doping and the use of steroids are two major illegal acts to commit in the world of sports. Alex Rodriguez and Lance Armstrong are very much admired athletes that were both accused of taking illegal performance enhancing drugs during their winning sport seasons. Lance Armstrong was publicly accused of blood doping, and Alex Rodriguez was accused of taking illegal steroids. While Lance Armstrong and Alex Rodriguez are world famous athletes, they are prime examples of why wining while cheating is not worth the hard work and dedication of a sports profession. …show more content…
When he was 16 years old he became a professional triathlete, and participated in swimming, cycling, and running. Soon after, Armstrong was requested to train as a cyclist by the U.S. Olympic development group, as stated in the report (CNN Library). Published on the Cycling Weekly website, in an article by Simon Richardson, Armstrong was said to be considered “the best cyclist in the world with some of the greatest career defining moments.” In addition to his debut in the pro ranks and becoming a world champion, Armstrong began his battle against testicular cancer which spread throughout his body quickly after (Richardson). According to the article, Armstrong was declared cancer free the following year and immediately after launched his charity which made this his big comeback (Richardson). As stated on the Cycling Weekly, Armstrong was the most famous American road cyclist who won the Tour de France titles seven time in a row from 1999 to 2005. He made the record of being the youngest cycling champion in the United States, and has also participated in three Olympic Games (Richardson). However, it was quickly outed that he performed unlawful acts to enhance his athleticism. Armstrong, according to “Armstrong Admits to Using Performance-Enhancing Drugs,” an article posted on NPR.org by Krishnadev Calamur, had a habit of taking steroids and followed that with blood doping to get the drugs out of this system. It was only later on when Lance Armstrong was caught blood doping and had all of his titles taken away from him that he admitted to doing such things
