On 3/14/2015 I had the honor of visiting Sidney Lanier Cottage here in Macon, Ga along with a

few members from my church called Mabel White baptist Church. When I first arrived I felt as

if I was walking into a magical garden. Thee cottage was beautiful. Breathtaking might I add.

The staff greeted us as we got out of our cars. I found this poet to be quite interesting

because he died on my birthday which is September 7, but he died in 1881.

The

experience was truly amazing. All of the furniture was put in the house, but it did depict

the actual furniture that Sidney had. They had workers dressed up as Lanier and his staff from

earlier

times. The two pieces that i found very intersting was his wife wedding dress, his flute and his

clothes.

Even though this was in earlier times you wouldn't think that people would want to wear this

piece of clothing. But, you do see clothes and history repeating itself. His wife gown was

was very beautiful and white trimmed in gold.

They had several rooms were you could be entertainted. the best to me was the parlor

we dressed up and acted as if we were having a tea party and we were writing poems. They give

you chance to be Sidney or his wife. They have everything set up to wedding invitations to

pictures of him and his wife. Another piece I was impressed by was the saving of his mother's

china. The pieces were stunning, although we couldn't touch them. The lady that was with

me from the church asked could she set in the rocking chair that was owned by Sidney

and Mary Day, the greeter told us that it was off limits do to the couple being the last one's to

have touched the chair. My overall experience was great. During our visit there a wedding

was about to take place, the bride and groom was an elderly couple who wanted to get married

in the house because he had found out that his great great great great grandfather was an

ancestor of the late Sidney Lanier. This trip let me know taht no matter how hard times are

still try to pursue your education. When you sit back and think about it Lanier and his

classmates didn't have computers, copy machines, fax machines and all of the other

resources we have today to help us make it through school, but he graduated in the top of his

class with honors and wanted to prove to his family that he will become somebody.

Lanier Cottage was constructed in 1840. Sidney was born in the "cottage" on Feb 3, 1842

after his birth he and his family moved to Griffin, Ga. There, he completed his elementary in

Macon, Ga. At the age of fourteen he was granted enrollment at Oglethorpe college near

Milledgeville, Ga where he graduated with high honors. He was also in the Confederate Army in

1861, Along with the Macon volunteers where he was captured in 1864 while serving as a

blackade runner. He was incarcerated for five months where he was dignosed with

tuberculosis. He later died from his illness in 1881. His wife supported herself and the children

after his death by selling Lanier's poetry.

Reference would be Humanities World Culture Book pages 822 this would remind you of the

cottage.

Short Story - the Trash

...Lasse’s dad was a cop, recently celebrating his 30-year anniversary on the force. Lasse had to make it to the funeral, and support his family during the hard time. He hadn’t heard from Lasse since. He had tried reaching him on his cell, but with no luck. Wednesday d. 16th of April 15.09 o’clock Smallville Sigurd was pulled out of his thoughts, when the bus driver announced the final stop threw the speakers of the bus. Sigurd dragged his luggage out of the backdoor of the bus, and the bus went on along the empty and quiet road. He inhaled the fresh air, and felt his stomach sizzling of joy. He finally had reached his destination after a long journey. He had rented a weekend cottage in the edge of the small town of Smallville in the Northern part of Sjælland. He found the description of the cottage and followed it exactly as he had written on the back of an old letter. After walking for a while, he turned on to a narrow and trashy street, and on that street behind an overgrown cranberry bush a little red house showed up. On the aslant hanging mailbox an address was written: Rumlevej 2. He dragged himself threw the creaking, red garden gate, which desperately needed new hinges...

...Stuff Shells for the Caribbean Families often pass down favorite recipes from generation to generation or from friend to friend. I took a moment to talk with my wife, Antalaya Israel who of which has a West Indian background (Trinidad). We spoke about her family favorite dish or at least her favorite, and to bring in that recipe to share. Surprisingly for Caribbean women, stuff shells were and still are this Trinidadian favorite dish of all times. Now I get it because being from Bermuda, I tend to lean more to Italian dishes as well but my wife is the oldest of three girls and lived with a mother from my observations, that cooked nothing but soul/Caribbean cuisines. At the end of this interview, I will encourage the reader(s) to try my wife’s recipe for stuff shells. I use my wife as a reliable source for this project because of her family’s background---Trinidadian. There’s no secret that Caribbean women love to cook, and not just love but can actually put great things together in the kitchen. Her mother and I often argue about who is the better cook but to be honest, her mother is a very good cook. From the spices she uses to presentation. As a matter of fact, she has a catering company---she being the mother. Trinidad cuisine is known for a number of dishes that has contributed to the culinary world. I believe it’s the spices that create these dishes to come to life like no other culture; roti, doubles, curries and more---Trinidad's best foods are loaded with...

How to Make Glue from Milk

...How to Make Glue from Milk Use common kitchen materials to make your own glue. Add vinegar to milk, separate the curds, and add baking soda and water. Glue! Here's How: 1. Mix 1/4 cup hot tap water with 2 T powdered milk. Stir until dissolved. 2. Stir 1 T of vinegar into the mixture. The milk will begin to separate into solid curds and watery whey. Continue stirring until the milk is well-separated. 3. Pour the curds and whey into a coffee filter positioned over a cup. Slowly lift the filter, draining the whey. Keep the curd, which is in the filter. 4. Squeeze the filter to remove as much liquid as possible from the curd. Discard the whey (i.e., pour it down a drain) and return the curd to a cup. 5. Use a spoon to break the curd into small pieces. 6. Add 1 teaspoon hot water and 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon baking soda to the chopped curd. Some foaming may occur (carbon dioxide gas from reaction of baking soda with vinegar). 7. Mix thoroughly until the glue becomes smooth and more liquid. If the mixture is too thick, add a bit more water. If the glue is too lumpy, add more baking soda. 8. The finished glue can vary in consistency from a thick liquid to a thick paste, depending on how much water has been added, how much curd was present, and how much baking soda was added. 9. Use your glue as you would any school paste. Have fun! 10. When not in use, cover your cup of glue with plastic wrap. Over time, its consistency will become smoother and clearer. 11. Unrefrigerated glue...

Nutrition and Exercise Plan

...Nutrition and Exercise Plan Tina D'Antonio SCI/241 September 4, 2012 Joyce Rode In week one, I learned through the SuperTracker that I needed to increase my calorie intake to 2,200 calorie per day to achieve a healthier weight, as I was 99 pounds, and wanted to reach a goal of 105 pound. Even though I eat healthy food, I don’t eat a well-balanced meal. The SuperTracker showed me to implement more fruits, proteins and dairy into my meal plan. Vegetables and whole grains have really never been an issue for me. My other goals were to increase my vitamin D, vitamin A and iron, so I can stop taking supplements and to increase my dietary fiber. Throughout the nine-week program, I found that my eating habits did not improve. My calorie intake never went over 2,000 let alone get up to 2,200. I was although really shocked to learn how much sodium I consume, I always thought I was good with watching my sodium intake. This is why people have to be more concise of what they purchase as it can be high in sodium. The coach center message archive gave me some of the following advice for vitamin D, dietary fiber and iron. Vitamin D their comment was, try to meet your recommendation by trying new recipe ideas for salmon, tuna, and sardines. Dietary fiber the comment was plant foods are where you find fiber-fruits, vegetables, nuts and whole grains, when your meal has more fiber, it often has fewer calories, and you’ll feel fuller and stay within your calorie allowance. Their comments...

Tradition Turned Dirty

...Tradition Turned Dirty The old neighborhood was nearly unrecognizable. There were no limitations set this year for our annual rivalry of destruction between the city and county of our town. We always referred to it as rival destruction but it had always been clean fun before this year. It had never led to such destruction in the years past. The old neighborhood versus the new neighborhood was a tradition that always resulted in vandalism but nothing to the nature of what we came back to in our inner city neighborhoods the morning after our festive night. The rivalry turned down right dirty and immoral. Rivalry week, as we called it, was the week leading up to the very special Friday night when the Valdosta High School Wildcats would take on the Lowndes County High School Vikings. The students of Valdosta High, which included me, were referred to as the “old hood” and students of Lowndes County High were the “new hood”, since their county suburbs were freshly constructed. People that aren’t from Lowndes County would wonder why some high school football game be so special, until they witnessed this crazy, exciting annual event. Our town’s high school students wouldn’t revolve a whole week around this one night unless it was truly a big deal! Even so, we were afraid that after this particular year, our “big deal” tradition would forever be put to an end. The Thursday night before the big game, our crew of Valdosta Wildcats set out to seize some seriously planned fun of vandalism...

...Introduction Consider the following hypothetical: a sole Owner A of rentable house in Colorado considers buying a new lake LBJ house in Taxes. Instead of purchasing new house in Taxes and selling the older rentable house in Colorado, Owner A would like to process an exchange process for those two properties. He wants to take a benefit of like-kind exchange, because under Internal Revenue Code (IRC), like-kind exchange can defer gain and loss from the transaction. Therefore, it may save some tax cost. However, those IRC defined this nontaxable like-kind exchange in an extremely narrow range. Conflicts of the recognition of like-kind properties often happen between taxpayer and the Tax Count. Therefore, it may hard for owner A to take this tax advantage of like-kind exchange. This paper will focus on qualification issue of like-kind exchange. It will firstly briefly show the relevant Federal Income Tax code of like-kind exchange and highlight two controversial parts when those codes applying. Additionally, several relevant cases will be analyzed to show how like-kind exchange property is qualified in real world. Those cases also give Owner A some suggestions of house exchange. Finally, based on cases analyze above, a possible exchange plan of Owner A will be explained. General Rule of Like-kind Exchange IRS Code In general, according to§1031(a), no gain of loss shall be recognized on the exchange of property held for productive use in a trade or business or for investment...

La Singularidad

...NOTE: This PDF document has a handy set of “bookmarks” for it, which are accessible by pressing the Bookmarks tab on the left side of this window. ***************************************************** We are the last. The last generation to be unaugmented. The last generation to be intellectually alone. The last generation to be limited by our bodies. We are the first. The first generation to be augmented. The first generation to be intellectually together. The first generation to be limited only by our imaginations. We stand both before and after, balancing on the razor edge of the Event Horizon of the Singularity. That this sublime juxtapositional tautology has gone unnoticed until now is itself remarkable. We're so exquisitely privileged to be living in this time, to be born right on the precipice of the greatest paradigm shift in human history, the only thing that approaches the importance of that reality is finding like minds that realize the same, and being able to make some connection with them.
