LIVING WILL
OF
JOHN BLAIR COOK
I, JOHN BLAIR COOK, willfully and voluntarily make known my desire that my dying shall not be artificially prolonged under the circumstances set forth below; and I therefore declare as follows:
If, at any time, I should have a terminal condition and my attending physician has determined that there can be no recovery from such condition and the application of medical care would serve only to artificially prolong the dying process, I direct that medical care be withheld or withdrawn and that I be permitted to die naturally with only the administration of medications or the performance of any medical procedure deemed necessary to provide me with comfortable care or to alleviate pain. I authorize the withholding or withdrawal of artificially provided food, water, or other nourishment or fluids.

In the absence of my ability to give directions regarding my medical care, it is my intention that this declaration shall be honored by my family and physicians as the final

The Charismatic Gifts Debate

...--------------------------- 2 Introduction This charismatic gifts debate will explore God’s biblically stated purpose and intention for His supernatural gifts to be manifested in the practice of the New Testament Church. The question of whether the Bible declares if sign gifts are to be expected until the return of the Lord Jesus Christ, or have those gifts ceased, will be researched. The contemporary use of the sign gifts will be examined in the light of Scripture. Biblical research will reveal that in fact, only certain of the gifts of the Holy Spirit have ceased with the completion of the Canon; and with the death of the last Apostle John. What is the Purpose of the Sign Gifts It is understood by most scholars that the sign gifts...

Nehehmiah

...LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLES EXHIBITED IN THE BOOK OF NEHEMIAH INTRODUCTION Nehemiah was friendly, generous, loyal, very much human, and deeply touched by the destruction his people had endured. He felt great compassion and allegiance toward the people of Israel in Jerusalem. Nehemiah was thrust into leadership by God in the ruins of Jerusalem. Nehemiah was entrusted with the task of rebuilding Jerusalem from the ground up. “The city was in total ruin, stones had to be cleared to start new foundations, and people were weary from their many days’ journey back from captivity.” Leadership is an action of leading others toward a goal or the position of being a leader. Every leader desires to be successful in the goals they set out to accomplish; however, not all leaders equip themselves properly to find true success in the eyes of God. What qualities or characteristics make a leader successful in God’s eyes? First, a successful leader in God’s eyes is a man or woman who is prayerful. Second, a successful leader in God’s eyes is a man or woman who is obedient. Third, a successful leader in God’s eyes is a man or woman who is diligent. Fourth, a successful leader in God’s eyes is a man or woman who is trustworthy. Fifth, a successful leader in God’s eyes is a man or woman who is missional. A missional leader exhibits the following qualities or characteristics: receive a calling and vision from God, live a life of integrity, be a team player, be a conflict manager and not a conflict...

Song of Solomon

...Notes on Song of Solomon 2 0 1 4 E d i t i o n Dr. Thomas L. Constable Introduction TITLE In the Hebrew Bible the title of this book is "The Song of Songs." It comes from 1:1. The Septuagint and Vulgate translators adopted this title. The Latin word for song is canticum from which we get the word Canticles, another title for this book. Some English translations have kept the title "Song of Songs" (e.g., NIV, TNIV), but many have changed it to "Song of Solomon" based on 1:1 (e.g., NASB, AV, RSV, NKJV). WRITER AND DATE Many references to Solomon throughout the book confirm the claim of 1:1 that Solomon wrote this book (cf. 1:4-5, 12; 3:7, 9, 11; 6:12; 7:5; 8:11-12; 1 Kings 4:33). He reigned between 971 and 931 B.C. Richard Hess believed the writer is unknown and could have been anyone, even a woman, and that the female heroine viewed and described her lover as a king: as a Solomon.1 How could Solomon, who had 700 wives and 300 concubines (1 Kings 11:3), be the same faithful lover this book presents? He could be if he became polygamous after the events in this book took place. That seems a more likely explanation than that he was polygamous when these events occurred and just omitted reference to his other loves. Probably he wrote the book before he became polygamous. We do not know how old Solomon was when he married the second time. The history recorded in Kings and Chronicles is not in strict chronological order. The Shulammite was probably not Pharaoh's daughter in view...

The Qualifications of the Office of Deacon

...THE RELATION OF THE 7 IN ACTS 6 TO THE OFFICE OF DEACON THE QUALIFICATIONS OF THE OFFICE OF DEACON A Paper Presented to Professor Timothy Moroz Of Liberty University Lynchburg, VA. In Partial Fulfillment Of the Requirements for The Book of Acts BIBL 165-B01 LUO by Bonnie Andreucci July 1, 2014 OUTLINE PAGE 1. Introduction a. Thesis statement b. Purpose of this paper 2. Body a. A chosen life, why me, Lord? b. Qualities of a Deacon c. Ordered by God 3. Conclusion a. Is it worth it? 1. A deacon, a man, a chosen life and servant of God, yet still human and prone to failure; God has His intended appointment for His people. As a church deacon, you must stand for, and on, the gospel; and live as though your life depended on it, because it does. Your life, though you go about day-by-day doing as you will, belongs to God first, the church that you serve, your community, than yourself. I hope to enlighten my reader to the facts of this office, and then the reason it is so important. Rabbi Helen Gelof was a longtime friend of the family, and she just had a way about her. She had grace, knowledge, determination, and a great love of God and those around her. “I believe that a life chosen by God, no matter whether Jew or Gentile, you must follow the law given by God. Rabbi, priest, pastor, or deacon; any leader in a church or temple, God has laws and restrictions in each. Just remember, you cannot always please man...

...LECTURE ST. THOMAS UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW FALL 2012 DISTINGUISHED SPEAKER SERIES WHAT MUST WE HIDE: THE ETHICS OF PRIVACY AND THE ETHOS OF DISCLOSURE ANITA L. ALLEN' I. INTRODUCTION We live in an era of persotial revelation. We are preoccupied by seeking, gathering, and disclosing information about others and ourselves. In the age of revelation, individuals and enterprises are fond of ferreting out what is btiried away. We are fond of broadcasting what we know, think, do, and feel; and we are motivated by business and pleasure because we care about friendship, kinship, health, wealth, education, politics, justice, and culture. A lot of this has to do with technology, of course. We live at a historical moment characterized by the wide availability of multiple modes of communication and stored data, easily and frequently accessed. Our communications are capable of disclosing breadths and depths of personal, personally identifiable, and sensitive information to many people rapidly. In this era of revelation—dominated by portable electronics, intemet social media, reality television, and traditional talk radio—^many of us are losing our sense of privacy, our taste for privacy, and our willingness to respect privacy. Is this set of losses a bad thing? If it is a bad thing, what can be done about it? My refiections on these questions begin with a series of diverse examples from the past several years. The examples illustrate the emergent ethos of our revelatory era. The first...
