Nissan is one of the world's leading automakers. Jidosha-Seizo Kabushiki-Kaisha("Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd." in English) was established in 1933, taking over all the operations for manufacturing Datsun from the automobile division of Tobata Casting Co. LTD, and its company name was changed to Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. in 1934. There were numerous good and bad times the company has faced but it became consistently with the progression of time and now it has turned into one of the main company of making automobiles in the world. The following is a SWOT analysis based on the case study provided of Nissan Motor Co. LTD. Nissan has a number of strengths, one of the most important strength is that it operates globally. After the second world war, Nissan developed steadily, growing its operation internationally. It's got to be particularly fruitful in North America with a lineup of littler gas productive autos and little pickup trucks as well as sports coupe cars. Nissan was extremely remarkable for its advanced engineering and technology innovation, plant productivity, and quality administration. It is because the combination of these strengths the company has held its position over the world. The Nissan company has many strengths, on the other hand it also has weaknesses. One of these is that wrong estimation of customers wants. Customers like stylish, innovative cars, but Nissan thought they preferred good quality cars. As opposed to reinvesting in new product designs as other competitors did, Nissan management seemed to be substantial to keep on collecting the accomplishment of demonstrated outlines. The strategy of Nissan was focusing on short term profits rather than long term success and also the purchasing costs of the Nissan were higher than the competitors 20 to 25% higher than the Renault. These weaknesses raised some threats to the company. A Company such as Nissan faced numerous threats. One of the biggest threats for the Nissan is that, Keiretsu investments with third party due to this financial crisis had an effect on the currency rate which was bad for Nissan. Whilst there are obvious threats and weaknesses for any company, there are also many new opportunities and Nissan had the opportunities to become ranked as the producer of the top four cars in the world. On the other hand the chance of making alliances with Renault to balance their market portfolios and become more competitive.

In conclusion, this essay gives a view of external and internal structure of Nissan Motors Co. LTD by the SWOT analysis. Moreover, it's additionally clarifies how the company has changed its image and product importance in the eye of its clients and construct its aggressive edge over competitors.

The term downsizing is used to handle the business in a decent manner by reducing the number of employees and shrinking the scope of business or closing useless departments to improve the financial growth and profit of the business. Every company takes this step to handle its operation easily. Usually downsizing is used to start bigger projects by closing the small one which are not profitable. Process of downsizing has negative and positive effects that the organization might face after downsizing. An example of an organization downsizing is Barclays multinational banking and financial services. It is a public limited company. It has operations in more than 50 countries and regions and has around 48 million customers. In 2011 Barclays had downright resources of US$2.42 trillion, the seventh-biggest of any bank around the world. According to the source Barclays fired 3000 employees from the job in 2011 because they drop 33% in the profit. Barclays profit of the initial six months of the year was £2.64 billion (US$4.3 billion), down 33 percent from a year back, yet over the normal figure of £2.4 billion. (Slater)

One effect of this downsizing on the employees was that they had to work hard for the company to save their position and became an important part of the company because they will never replace or fired. On the other hand, the second effect was that the chance of promotion for the employees reduced, because the department gets shrink and can be controlled by manager and owner, so it creates very few chances for the employees to get a promotion. Due to downsizing some of employees might lose their motivation which may cause a reduction in productivity. One effect of this downsizing on the organization was that they had not paid salaries to 3000 employees and made less liabilities. Save money and invest in another business. Remove the useless staff by the downsizing process. On the other hand, the second effect was that the organization easily manage the staff and branches. They were able to handle their operation in a suitable manner and concentrate on the important goals. Give more attention on the future goals. The negative effect of downsizing is also the loss of goodwill for a big company like Barclays. In conclusion, this essay gives a view of downsizing process, provide positive effects and negative effects. When size becomes a liability then organization does the downsizing process to shrink the branches, remove the useless staff and less their liabilities to be more effective and improve the financial growth.
