Leadership Approach Paper

Leadership is a subject that has long excited interest among people. The term connotes

images of powerful, dynamic individuals who command victorious armies, direct corporate empires from atop gleaming skyscrapers, or shape the course of nations (Yukl, p. 1, 2010). Behaviors are an important approach in leadership. Working as a manager in an organization leaves much opportunity to view outstanding leadership behaviors as well as bad leadership behaviors. In observations poor leadership took a reactive approach in areas of multi-tasking the managers often pushing their work off on other supervisors he or she managed or employees that he or she knew would get the job done with no questions ask. Poor leaders need to begin with the basics in knowing what defines leadership. One common indicator of leader effectiveness is the extent to which the performance of the team or organizational unit is enhanced and the attainment of goals is facilitated. (Yukl, p. 10. 2010).

Strength of the behavior approach to leadership is a wide scope of what a leader does in certain situations. There are a variety of studies with creditable research that agree with the behavior approach to leadership. The behavior approach to leadership can be divided into two categories task and relationship. Engaging in a proactive approach should be strength within leadership. Reviewing these two categories can help to better understand what it takes to become an effective leader.

As a leader an individual needs to know his or her weakness in order to overcome them. There will always be some disparity in experience or knowledge. From time to time the very attitude, habits, and behaviors which allows and individual to

Background “Night Detector Lights” are extremely useful and versatile in a wide range of renewable energy projects from automatic lighting to security systems. This circuit uses a light dependent resistor to detect luminance in the surroundings to prevent the circuit from giving power to the LED/Bulb for it to illuminate. The light dependent resistor (LDR) converts the light it absorbs into heat that then signals the resistor when gathered enough heat to cut off the flow of electricity to its destination the LED/Bulb. This may sound complex but it is rather simple. The LDR represents the switch of the circuit as it is automatically switched on/off by the light it absorbs. B. ...Positive Influence Plans for Business Teams LDR/531 October 15, 2012 Positive Influence Plans for Business Teams Teams are an important part of an organization. The team process creates an environment that allows employees to respect one another and work cohesively to meet an objective or goal that the organization has assigned (Michael, 2012). Michael (2012) defines “TEAM” as “Together Each Achieve More” because teams are composed of individuals with specific skills, knowledge, and levels of abilities; each will achieve more if there is positive influence and understanding throughout the duration of the project in a team environment (p. 21). Understanding of Teams Can Lead to Positive Influence A project has been assigned to your department with a completion anticipated within one year. The organization has decided to form a team to be responsible for accomplishing the objectives of the project in which the collective knowledge can be gathered, documented, and delivered in a thorough efficient manner. It is important that the team has adequate resources, leadership and structure, climate of trust, as well as some form of incentive or reward systems to keep motivation throughout the project (Robbins & Judge, 2011). The team has to understand the abilities, personalities, roles, and importance of diversity that can affect the dynamics of the team performance (Robbins & Judge, 2011). In a team environment the common interest, values, social interaction, cooperation...

...Application Paper 1 Select one of the eight leaders discussed in the Wills' text in Chapters 1 through 8 and discuss why a consideration of his or her leadership at a former point in time is important to an understanding of leadership today. Note: This activity will require that you read about the leader in additional sources. Be sure to properly document any additional sources you use. In selecting a leader within the first module, I chose the person who I knew of, yet I knew very little about in Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR). In our readings, and through further research it is clear that through his leadership, FDR's legacy strives in our world today. Many leaders throughout history have been known to face their share of adversity. A common theme in our readings, whether it be social barriers, disputes, or personal challenges, one common attribute among the leaders in our readings is their ability to overcome adversity, and lead their followers to a better state. It can be interpreted that FDR's trials and tribulations with polio may have been a defining moment in his life and political career. It is interesting to note that prior to his health battle with polio, FDR had been known as "too anxious to please", a "sissy" who had lived a sheltered life and seemed to lack self-confidence (Wills, 1994). Overcoming polio, FDR seems to seize an opportunity to take control of his life by learning to walk again, and instilling a calm confidence in his character that he...

...Motivation Plan LDR 531 October 6, 2013 Strategic Development Perhaps the most important component of any organization are its people. The most successful organizations demonstrate the leadership skills necessary for nurturing maximum job satisfaction and performance in their employees and consequently ensuring high levels of motivation throughout. Effective leaders within these organizations capably develop and implement motivational strategies which elicit desired behaviors by bringing together the disparate attitudes, personalities and values of team members and employees alike. According to Smith (2012): “Employers face the challenges of maintaining productivity, profitability as well as keeping their workforce engaged and satisfied with their jobs” (p.1). By evaluating the individual DISC assessment results of Team D and applying them to the structure of an actual organization, it will be shown how addressing the differences in attitudes, emotions and personalities can be used to meet such challenges while positively influencing individual and team behavior. ...writing. In fact, the three universities that I have attended in the past have all required me to use the APA style of writing. As I recall my high school years, the APA style of writing also seemed to be a favorite amongst my high school teachers. They all required that term papers be written in APA style as well. This type of writing actually does not differ much from the ones included in the text reading. The text mentioned the APA style of writing several times. In my opinion, it appears to be the most popular style of writing, especially amongst college students. Based on the results of the quizzes, my grammar skills were actually a little better than average. I actually had expected to do better, but I guess my grammar skills are not as good as I thought they were. In any event I feel very confident when it comes to spelling, as I have always been a great speller. Even in grade school, I was a good speller. I learned at a very young age to challenge myself when it comes to spelling. Challenging my-self in that area really paid off as I became older, as I’ve never had a problem with spelling. However, I feel that I need more help with run on sentences and with thought patterns. Though I proof read my paper several times, it’s hard for me to see that I have several run on sentences until after I get my grade back. In general, I feel that my writing is just mediocre. However, I also believe that when it comes to writing, I am my own worst critic. Reason being, I am never...

...Terrica Thomas Mr. David Makhanlall Eng 090 12-11-11 My journey as a writer is when I do my papers I have to make sure that I have the correct grammar and no misspelled words. Because when write you want to make sure that your papers flows and that you stay on topic. Because you as a writer wants the people to understand what they are reading. Because your paper have to have so meaning to it and it have to have some clarity to. When I revise my papers it make me look at the things I done wrong. Like when I have misspelled words I can correct them and when I have sentences that don’t make sense and I take the out. When I write I make the mistake of writing a lot of write on sentences. I have to make sure that I don’t do that anymore. I have to make sure that I don’t forget the punctuations because I have the habit of not putting them where they belong and stuff.
