Part I: Personal Thinking Styles
Having never taken a Life Styles Inventory (LSI) before this week, I was rather interested in finding out the results to see if I was the type of leader that I thought I was. I can honestly say that, I was spot on to what I thought my results were going to be, although the definitions of the different areas kind of threw me off. I scored in the 99th percentile under Humanistic-Encouraging, Power, Perfectionistic, Achievement, and Self Actualizing. Ever since High School all of these have been part of the mechanics that have made me who I am as a person today. Even in my family life, I have often times feel like “Don Corleone”, as I am the decision maker or counsel for the family’s many situations such as a sister’s approval of a boyfriend, my brother’s questions about college courses or even a family decision from my parents. For the purposes of this assignment due to requirement constraints, I will focus on Achievement being my primary style, while Competitive with a 97th percentile score will be my backup. I have always lead by example and never have been scared to get my hands dirty; encouraged by experience and desire to hold my subordinates to higher standards, I believe in following the ethos of putting in as much work as everyone else on my team. Doing this effortlessly, allows for a greater sense of achievement as my “guys” (If I were in the military) or my direct reports at my current position know that I am not the kind of person to bark orders while surfing the web, but will also handle whatever challenges come across my desk. My back up style, Competitiveness, compliments my Achievement style by ensuring that my team and I are always at the tip of everyone’s tongue. I like to hear both positive and negative feedback on my team, as it assists me in defining a path towards training and areas that need to be worked on

My achievement and self – actualizing styles are in the highest range. In addition humanistic-encouraging and affiliative styles were also in the high range. Indicating that my constructive styles were all in the high range. I believe my experience and life skills learned have led to my LSI survey indicating that I have worked very hard to improve myself overall. My high range achievement scores indicate that I will feel positively challenged by what I am confronted with in life. I will strongly believe that I can change things and make them the way they should be, and I am a risk taker. Recognizing that I will have problems and setbacks, I have contingency plans to overcome obstacles and unknowns. Additionally, I typically derive great satisfaction from being guided by my own goals, and I do tend to encourage others to adopt my goals, from a genuine desire to see them improve. Lifestyles Inventory

...Life Styles Inventory The 12 Life Styles 9/14/2013 Devry and Keller School of Management MGMT591 Leadership and Org. Behavior-Professor Carr I have realized I have changed tremendously over the years and certain life events can shape the way you think or the way you will evolve. This can be anywhere from getting over a breakup, the stress of work/school, or the death of a close loved one. For the most part, I think I am an outgoing person with a strong work ethic and try to be positive to reach my long term goals and not let the little bumps in the road get me off track. In this week’s assignment, we were assigned to go through and fill out the “life styles inventory which focuses on constructive, passive/defensive, and aggressive/defensive styles. At first, I was a little apprehensive about going through a self-assessment because I feel that I know myself pretty well, but after getting the results, some of the scores are different than what I initially expected. The three different styles I would like to focus on in this paper have to deal with interaction of people, accomplishing tasks, and task related activities. After taking the LSI survey and examining the circumplex slices, oppositional was the highest on the percentile scoring scale and falls under the defensive/aggressive scale. Oppositional style, which I scored an 84 on, is characterized by a detachment from your close friends and family, having a negative outlook on life, and having a sarcastic sense...
