1.1. Introduction
Manufacturing and assembly operations are continually striving to increase productivity and output of their operations. The goal is to satisfy the customer with the exact product, quality, quantity, and price in the shortest amount of time. “In the last decades, competitive pressures have been pushing companies towards cost reduction and performance improvement of operations to provide high quality products to very demanding markets.” (1) In this era, information and technology is being exchanging so much fast that every industry is seeking the improvement though other similar industries. Most of the well-known industries of the world like Toyota Company share their research to outer world too. So, awareness is being developed …show more content…
Atta-ur-Rehman at education level. Awareness has still not gone to industries completely yet. Who understand the importance of six sigma, lean manufacturing, lean tools, lean wastes and improvement of processes through such techniques; implement the concept secretly to their industries which includes textile and FMCG industries mostly. Now other companies include automotive parts manufacturing industries have also started to adapt the Lean production concepts and several articles have been written on the concept. After been studying the theoretical aspects of quality issues, an interest started to grow in how the concept actual works out in Pakistani companies and how it could be implemented in an automotive organization. This is a case study base project which is carried out in a multi-national automotive industry in Pakistan. All the information regarding reworking and assembly lines is to be gathered. This will be followed by the study of the latest work from the research articles and books. It will then scrutinize some most widely used quality tools and techniques, to seek out the problem. There are lots of quality tools that can be used to tackle such problems. The reviewing the literature shows the tools like 5-why, C&E diagram, Value stream mapping, and FMEA and combination of these tools will be helpful to grasp the solution of problem. The detailed research approach will be discussed in chapter 3 of this report.
1.5. Limitations of the Study
The limitations of the project are:
• The results of this study will be limited to one automotive industry. And being specific, it is limited to one assembly product.
• The results will be based on data collected from the production, only of six month.
• The study includes merely the development of strategy to diagnose and prioritize the risks associated with the problem.
• The strategy for improvement could not be implemented in the time span of the study; it will be ongoing project study.

Lean manufacturing and agile manufacturing paradigms have also received considerable attention in operations management literature. However, paradoxically, the extant literature is lacking in clarity and fails to delineate with sufficient precision how and why leanness and agility differ. Given the resource constraints within which most manufacturing firms have to operate today, it is useful, if not critical, to develop a good understanding of how these paradigms differ and what their constituent dimensions are. Such an understanding is also essential for developing and testing theories relating to leanness and agility. Through a literature review we discuss leanness and agility in two ways: (1) as manufacturing paradigms and (2) as performance capabilities.
