Terrorism from the left and right
Terrorism can be defined as the indiscriminate use of violence to cause fear amid people to achieve an objective that may be financial, political, and religious or based on some specific ideology (Fortna, 2015). Terrorism from the left and right refers to left-wing terrorism and right-wing terrorism. Also, Left-wing terrorism can be related to Marxist–Leninist or revolutionary terrorism. It usually targets capitalists or conservative regimes to overturn their rule and replace them with socialist systems. Occasionally, left-wing terrorism may be witnessed in governments that are socialists as a form of rebellion against the regimes that are in power. Right-wing terrorism, on the other hand, refers to a type …show more content…
Nevertheless, left-wing terrorism is thought to be making a comeback. The recent shooting of republican representative Steve Scalise is stated as an example of increasing violence from the left. Furthermore, recent studies have shown that more violence may be rising amongst left-wing groups, fueled by the polarization caused by Trump`s election as president. In the United States, left-wing terrorism grew from fragments of the Weather Underground and other groups such as the Students for a Democratic Society. Some like the Symbionese Liberation Army were involved in kidnappings, murders and stealing from banks. Studies conducted in the nineties show that the number of leftist attacks were quite high and accounted for more than seventy five percent of all domestic terrorist strikes (Fortna, …show more content…
The said attacks are mostly orchestrated by white supremacists, neo-Nazis, neo-fascists, anti-government extremists, anti-abortion groups and other movements. In European countries such as France, there have been cases of right wing terrorism as witnessed in the recent past. Following jihadist attacks in France in November 2015, there was retaliation by right-wing terrorist that targeted six mosques with undertakings such as shooting, launching grenades and use of other homemade explosive devices. In 2014, a German right-wing terrorist group, known as Old school Society plotted an attack on a refugee shelter. Nevertheless, the group's leaders were arrested before the attack and

...and were short-lived. Aldo Moro, a relatively left-leaning Christian democrat, inspired this alliance. He would later try to include the Communist Party as well, with a deal called the historical compromise. This attempt at compromise was, however, stopped by the kidnapping and murder of Moro in 1978 by the Red Brigades, an extremist left-wing terrorist organization. The Communist party was at this point the largest communist party in western Europe, and remained such for the rest of its existence. Their ability to attract members was largely due to their pragmatic stance, especially their rejection of extremism, and to their growing independence from Moscow (see Eurocommunism). The Italian communist party was especially strong in areas like Emilia Romagna, where communists had been elected to stable government positions. This practical political experience may have contributed to their taking a more pragmatic approach to politics. [edit] The Years of Lead See also: Strategy of tension On 12 December 1969 a roughly decade-long period of extremist left- and right-wing political terrorism, known as the years of lead (as in the metal of bullets, Italian: anni di piombo), began with the Piazza Fontana bombing in the center of Milan. Neofascist Vincenzo Vinciguerra later declared the bombing to be an attempt to push the Italian state to declare a state of emergency, in order to lead to a more authoritative state. A bomb left in a bank killed about twenty, and was initially...

Are Parties Becoming Less Ideological?

...illustrated clearly with Fukuyama’s book, titled ‘the end of history and the last man’ which depicts how with the introduction of the 3rd way on the left, and many right wing policies now too extreme, the collapse of conventional ideology. He suggests there is now a final form of government since the end of the cold war. This is some what clear in the UK with the birth of New Labour in 1997, and the less extreme Conservatives, many argue they are simply both competing on economic grounds. The famous quote being ‘its economy stupid’, almost suggesting the economy is a new form of ideology. The same can be said for the US, but on less of a severe basis. Although Clinton is said to be most similar to Blaire, centering himself from extreme left wing policies, the rise of the TEA party in America, and to some extent Obama’s health care reforms can be said to be a revival of traditional ideology. Although to a less of an extent, Cameron’s Big Society can also said to be a revival of traditional Conservative policies. In terms of the economy parties are moving more centre-right and on social issues more centre-left. Although perhaps appearing very ideological in the US in particular American Politics is still very ‘catch all’. In terms of the economy it can be said parties and not becoming more ideological. Traditionally parties on the left intervene more in the economy and the right favor a free market economy. This can be seen clearly in the UK with the response to the banking crisis...

...Prof. Gadd March 29. 2011 La Shawn Early The Marketing of Evil: How Radicals, Elitists, and Pseudo-Experts Sell Us Corruption Disguised As Freedom Summary Marketing is the application of the knowledge of human psychology to the task of persuasion." (p.99) David Kupelian. Marketing Evil is a must read for those wishing to understand the culture war that the left has declared on American institutions, values, and ethics. Kupelian, with a calm, steady and patient hand, exposes the left as master marketers’ selling an agenda of ever increasing recklessness and corruption as a designer substitute intended for classical American ordered liberty. His chapter on the three step process (desensitize, jam, and convert) devised by sodomites to sell their spectacular species of wickedness to main street America is worth the whole price of the book. Chapters detailing the rotting corruption of the liberal education establishment, showing the manifest moral bankruptcy of modern feminism, and exposing the blood thirsty, predatory nature of the pro-abortion movement give a chilling glimpse into the cynical techniques used by the left to manipulate people into waging war against their own enlightened self interests. There is a chapter written on "Media Matrix" which is nothing short of brilliant. Kuplelian pulls back the curtain and exposes the wizards pulling the levers of fraud and deceit that has masqueraded as news for the last 40+ years. The author addresses each topic head-on without...

Primavera

...the painter was thinking when he painted this, in order to give some meaning to the figures and objects of the painting. The excerpts that were given to us helped to explain the painting from the perspective of two different scholars, who used various sources to help decipher the painting. Both were very interesting interpretations, however I found Zollner’s argument, as opposed to Zirpolo’s, to be more convincing based on his attention to every character in the painting. In the first excerpt, taken from Frank Zollner’s Botticelli: Images of Love and Spring, he takes each character from the Primavera and gives them a background and a story, based on sources from different text fragments. According to Zollner, the figure on the very left is Mercury, the messenger of the gods who divides clouds and drives away wind with his wand, which is discussed in Virgi’s Aenid He characterizes the little flying boy as Amor (Eros in Greek mythology), the son of Mars and Venus. Venus, the goddess of love and beauty is the woman at the very center of the painting. She is accompanied by the Three Graces. He explains how these characters are often found together in other literary works, like in one of Horace’s popular verses. Moving to the right side of the painting, the woman decorated with flowers is characterized as Flora, with her pre-transformation form of Chloris clinging to her side. He assumes this, from the work of Ovid’s Fasti. Finally, the green figure at the far right is Zephyrus...

Fashion

...Fashion and Clothes Most people like to think they are individualists and simply wear whatever they like. Few people will admit to being slaves to fashion. However, we are not just talking of the expensive clothes of the Paris and Milan fashion houses, which not many people can afford anyway. We are talking of fashions and trends in everyday clothes. We say that we wear jeans and sweaters because they are cheap and practical, but isn’t it true that jeans and sweaters tend to be the same as everyone else wears? Doesn’t that mean that we like to be trendy? Fashion is always changing. It is never permanent. Long skirts, short skirts, pants for women, make-up for men – these are some of the fashions that come in and out of style. Every fashion goes through three stages. At first it is different; it may be new and exciting, shocking or surprising. Then it becomes popular, and the original idea is imitated. Finally it becomes boring and out of date as a new fashion starts. Being fashionable says something about you. It means that you are up-to-date in other ways. So, for centuries fashion has been changing. As far as I know in the middle of the 18th century some of the most fashionable rich young men in Britain copied the latest Italian fashions. They wore extravagant clothes, lots of make-up to look pale and high wigs. At the end of the 18th century, women’s dresses began to get wider and their hair began to get longer. The widest dresses measured nearly two meters, making it...

I asked her whether she likes to have a wash and dress, she agreed. * Preparation (a) After that I approached a colleague and asked her to help me. I informed her as per the care plan we need to work in two. We put apron on, went to the linen cupboard and took two sets of hand towels, flannels and few nappy bags. We then moved to Mrs. B’s door and knocked and waited for her response. We entered in her room and greeted her “good morning Mrs. B’ She said “good morning”. I very slowly introduced myself and colleague’s name that we will be giving her a wash and dress in bed. Mrs. B smiled. * Preparation(b) We disinfected our hands and dried (it was provided on the wall dispenser) and put the gloves on. I asked Mrs. B whether she will dress anything particular, she said “no”. I opened Mrs. B’s wardrobe and took out two pairs of cloths and showed her which one of them she likes, she pointed to blue trouser and top. A Gap of Sky

...A Gap of Sky Being a teenager is not always a nice experience. You can evolve in many different directions and people start to demand and expect something special from you. At this stage you are expected to create an identity and some people can’t stand the pressure. In the short story A Gap of Sky Ellie might have felt like everyone, especially her parents, had too high expectations, and therefore decided to join a specific group of friends where she knew she could do what she wanted, relax and feel free. Unfortunately not everyone is making the right choice and ends up somewhere it’s hard to get away from like Ellie. The short story was written by Anna Hope in 2008. The story is told by a 3rd person narrator from Ellie’s point of view. It is written as a stream of consciousness, which helps to give the impression that Ellie might be under the influence of a drug. Ellie is a 19-year-old girl who lives in London. Throughout the story, which spreads over an afternoon, she digs deeper into herself, through sleepiness, drugs, university and a general indifference towards life. Ellie likes to party and do drugs in the evenings instead of staying home and study. Throughout the story the only thing, which is in Ellie’s mind, is that she has a paper for the next day, which she hasn’t started yet. It’s important that she hand in her paper, because she is probably not engaged with school and risks getting kicked out. To do the paper she needs printer ink and she goes to the Student...

...History of Politics A Research Paper Presented to The class of Miss Rhoda Mae R. Navasquez Southern Cotabato Academy, Inc. In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirement for the Subject English IV by Jeison L. Omandam December 01, 2011 INTRODUCTION Political history is the description and analysis of significant political occasions, movements, thoughts, and leaders. Typically it is developed around the nation states. It is distinguished from but relevant to other areas of history such as economic history, social history, and military history. Usually, political history discusses events pertaining to nation-states and the political process in particular. As per Hegelian doctrine, Political History ‘is a perception of the state with a guiding force beyond the material benefits of its subjects: it meant that the state was the root factor of historical change’.  This differs with one, for example, social history, which predominantly discusses the events and lifestyles of common folks, or people’s history, that is historical account from the view point of a lay person. A study of political history typically centers on a single nation and its political change and aggrandizement. A few historians highlight the ever increasing drift toward confined specialization in political history over the course of recent decades: ‘wherein a college professor in the 1940s resorted to identify himself as a “historian”, by the 1950s “American historian” was the designation.’ Political...

Arts and It's Different Perspectives

...A line is an identifiable path of a point moving in space. It can vary in width, direction and length. This building shows many examples of lines from the building itself to the windows. The building also has architectural detail that demonstrates lines. Shapes can be in the form of squares, circles, triangles, rectangles, and ovals. This painting has many different types of shapes. Circle stands out when first looking at the painting but once you examine the picture you begin to notice squares, ovals and triangles. An element of art, such as you would see in a sculpture that has three dimensions. The form of the chain in this picture makes it feel like you can reach out and feel the rigidness of it. It is very clear towards the bottom that looks like the beginning of the chain, and gets smoother towards the top, which looks like the end of the chain. Texture creates the feeling of an object. The picture is a great example of texture, along with pattern. The texture looks rough. Shadows, darkness, contrasts and light are all values in artwork. Shadows, darkness, and contrast are all demonstrated in this drawling and it is an excellent example of value. The contrast is clear along with the different shades and shadows. When light is reflected off an object, color is what the eye sees. The primary colors are red, yellow and blue. The secondary colors are orange, purple and green. The picture shows the blue sky with the colorful tree and the green grass...

Sorry for Disturbing You

...One of the primary sources to human delight is the close and solid relations we can have to each other. We have the ability to communicate and connect, and we have an enormous vocabulary to express us emotionally but with prodigious power comes prodigious responsibility. Communication is a central part of an intimate relationship and, if handled properly, it can be the key to an exultant life. But what if a person is unable to communicate about feelings? One of the main consequences can be the end of ever obtaining real intimacy which can lead to loneliness and low self-esteem in the end. In the short story “Sorry for disturbing you”, the protagonist Richard Knight broaches several current issues in our postmodern society. The short story, however, is also characterized and concerned with eternal questions such as helpfulness, loneliness and especially the importance of communicating and how you are able to deal with it. I will, through my analysis, interpret the short story based on the main aspects of the text that we can relate to our own society. Subsequently I will put it into perspective by discussing Love Poem by Douglas Dunn (1969) and The Ambulance Box by Andrew Phillip (2009). The main character Ian is the central point of the current questions that have been brought up. The text involves a third person limited narrator, and the personal view is based on Ian’s observations because we only get an insight view on his thoughts, which means that the portrait of...
