Dear President Lincoln, I would like to thank you for your courtesy in addressing the public on the behalf of our beloved soldiers. We have lost fathers, sons, uncles, husbands, and cousins on this very piece of land. I one-hundred percent thank you for dedicating this land to our brave men. I, for one, am the brother of Stephen Mathews, a soldier who gave his life for our country. He signed himself up as soon as he was of age determined to defend what was right for our nation. If he were here today he would honor every single word you said. I understand making the choices you made and taking certain actions were not the easiest and that why I respect you. Despite being at war you have succeeded in uniting both sides to have a moment of silence for these men. We may have different beliefs but you have made it possible to have us all set these aside for moments like these. Not only does my family appreciate the time you took in saying those words but many other families as well. Your words filled the empty cracks of our broken hearts knowing they did not die in vain. We are now left bewildered as to how long this war shall endure. How much longer our men shall fight for their lives and our justice. We know you are putting all your effort towards this situation. Thank you for your condolence and no matter how many people say that you are wrong, you should understand that my family greatly appreciates what you have done for our people and nation itself. I honor you as our president, god bless you and your family.
Sincerely,

Jeffery Mathews
