Subj: LETTER OF INSTRUCTION FOR PLATOON ATTACK TRAINING

Ref: (a) MCRP 3-0A (b) NAVMC 3500.44 Infantry T&R Manual

Encl: (1) Sketch of Range 200 (2) Operational Risk Assessment Worksheet (3) Training Support Request

1. Situation. 3d platoon has successfully trained to all required individual and squad level tasks contained in the Training and Readiness (T&R) Manual. We now are focusing on platoon level events that will satisfy the pre-deployment training requirements.

2. Mission. From Monday, 26 October to Wednesday, 28 October, 3d platoon will conduct platoon level attacks at Range 200 in order to improve combat proficiency.

3. Execution.

a. Commander's Intent. It is my intent to maximize the allotted training time by conducting multiple platoon attacks utilizing a “crawl, walk, run” methodology.

b. Concept of Operations. The platoon training will be done in three phases; dry runs, blank fire training, and live fire training.

(1) Phase One will be conducted on Monday and consists of platoon dry runs on. The object is to complete two dry runs in the morning and two dry runs in the afternoon. If there is time to conduct more then we will execute accordingly.

(2) Phase Two will be conducted on Tuesday and will consists of blank fire training. The objective remains the same as phase one, which is to complete four evolutions.

(3) Phase Three will be conducted on Wednesday. This will consists of one live fire exercise in the morning and conclude with one live fire exercise in the afternoon. The last live fire exercise will need tone completed by 1600 in order to conduct a thorough brass call.

(4) Transportation from the training area is will be scheduled to pick up the platoon at 1800.

(5) Debrief is expected to be no later than 2000 on Wednesday, 28 October at the armory.

c. Tasks

(1) Company Gunnery Sergeant

(a) Submit the enclosed training support request to battalion S-3 at least 5 days prior to training.

(b) Coordinate with 1st and 2d platoon to ensure support for safety. We will need twelve non-commissioned officers to serve as safety NCOs.

(c) Coordinate with HQ platoon to obtain two drivers to serve as safety vehicle operators.

(d) Obtain two PRC-119Ds and two PRC-119Es to be used for safety and control during the training event.

(2) Platoon Sergeant

(a) Ensure that all Marines participating in the training are present for weapons draw and that it is completed NLT 0500, 26 October.

(b) Make sure that all Marines’ weapons have proper LTI/PFI IAW MCO.

(c) Ensure that transportation to the range is scheduled to depart NLT 0800, 26 October.

(d) Submit all training support request to company Gunnery Sergeant by 15 October.

(e) Ensure you publish a training schedule for platoon

(f) Produce a training roster to assist in evaluation and accountability during the training exercise.

(3) Squad Leaders

(a) Ensure that inspection of your squad’s gear, weapons, and equipment s completed no later than Friday, 23 October.

(b) Pay special attention to blank firing adapters, magazines, weapon cleaning gear, and ear plugs.

d. Coordinating Instructions. the following is the tentative time line for the train event.

0800 to 1630 – Squad Leaders conduct gear inspections and conduct all training preparations.

Monday – 26 October 20XX

0430 – BDR
0500 – Weapons draw from the armory
0600 – Stage on the parade deck
0700 – Accountability of all personnel, weapons and equipment
0800 – Transportation to range 200
0900 – Range set-up and safety brief (the platoon sergeant (RSO) will do this)
0930 – Dry-run #1
1100 – Dry-run #2
1200 – Debrief and chow
1300 – Dry-run #3
1400 – Dry-run #4
1600 – Debrief and chow
1700 to 2200 – Squad leader time

1600 – Police call the entire range (squad leaders need to conduct a shakedown of all their Marines following the police call to ensure that nobody has any live rounds or brass in their pockets, etc)
1800 – Transportation back to armory
1900 – Weapons maintenance and turn-in
2000 – Platoon training debrief at the armory (by PltCmdr and PltSgt)

4. Administration and Logistics.

a. Administration.

(1) An after action report (AAR) for the training at Range 200 needs to be completed and submitted to the company commander no later than 1600, 29 October.

(2) An Ammunition expenditure report needs to be submitted to the battalion S4 no later than 30 October. The proper forms can be obtained from the battalion S4 office. 1st squad leader will be responsible for completing the report.

b. Logistics.

(1) Concept of Support.

(a) Total number of training personnel:

(b) Ammunition Requested:
