People in today’s world face many pressures friendship family. The book letters on the inside written by john Marden is about two adolescent girls communicating through letters reviling secrets and insecurities along the way. An authentic depiction of pressure having a harmful impact on the two girls is clear as Mandy is in harm from her brother Steve and Tracy as her actions led her to Garrett, and Mandy not being able to tell her parents about Mandy.

John Marsden shows a real clarity of pressure having a bad impact on an individual is shown through the character Mandy. Mandy is forced to live with her abusive brother and most of the time alone as her parents is working and sister is away. This accumulated acrimony towards her brother because of his violence. “he slaps me, knees me, kicks me. I lock my door quite often when I’m in my bedroom now . that’s how much he scares me.” In this quote we can clearly see harm being portrayed because Steve is under pressure. John Marsden does not reveal why Steve is under this pressure in the novel. The impact this quote has is showing the readers how cruel and violent Steve really is. These points clearly show how harm is being portrayed through pressure.

John Marsden illustrates an obvious type of harmful pressure through Tracy. Tracy was brought up by a brutal and uncountable father. “Sometimes he’d me angry and would hit us and we would be scared…” (double check) this has put her under substantial amount of pressure because she is afraid of her father and his actions.
