David Jamison, MHA
Basic facts of medical case: The following case for review by Marion General hospital board will cover the request by the 95 year old female patient Margie Whitson who currently resides at Golden Oaks Rehabilitation Center , whose heart and life is maintain by emplaced pace maker. The Patient’s physical and mental health has been evaluated by her assigned doctor, Dr. Rana Vijay and other health care providers as being currently stable. The patient directly requested that her primary doctor, Dr. Rana Vijay to permanently turn of her pace maker and in response, Dr. Rana Vijay denied her request which was medical and ethic base. The Nursing Home social worker Jane Robison has placed a request in writing on the behalf of patient Margie Whitson to the board, to have permission to have her pace maker turn off so she can die in peace. There are two direct conflicts of morals in this case, one is medical morals and the other is religionist base morals with both healthcare provider Dr. Rana Vijay and patient Margie Whitson in resolving this live or let die issue.
Interview of parties involved in current case: I conducted a personal interview with the patient Margie Whitson and directly ask her why she wanted to have her pace maker turn off, which would end her life. She based her decision on living a long life and she was ready to join her love ones in heaven. She also informed me that she had durable medical power of attorney in place, which would give legal permission and protection to all health care providers that provided her direct health care in the granting any medical request directed by her. I conducted a personal interview with Dr. Rana Vijay and directly ask him, why he

Big Ideas in Science

...Scenario 1: Ask a question: The scientific method is a cycle of observation, developing a hypothesis, experimentation based on the hypothesis, and identifying conclusions. Through successive rounds of the scientific method hypothesis are refined into theorems that can explain our observations. You reach for the switch and the light doesn't come on. What would you do next? Would you try the switch again? Did I flick it all the way first time? Then I would check to see if there was anything wrong with the electricity, by trying to turn on other lights in the house or looking to see if any electrical appliances were working. And so on and so forth until I found out why the light wasn't working. Do background research: The light doesn't come on the first time that I flick the switch. Based on experience I know a few potential causes of this observation, namely: faulty switch, no electricity, or burnt out light bulb. Using this background information I can then form a hypothesis as to why the light bulb didn't come on when I flicked the switch. Hypothesis: The light bulb didn't come on when I turned the switch because the light bulb has burnt out. Experiment: Take the old bulb and test it in a known working socket (at a neighbor's). Experiments should ideally have only two possible outcomes. Either they will support the hypothesis or disprove it. If the light doesn't work at my neighbor’s house then there is something wrong with the bulb. If it does then something else...

Advertising Management

...ADVERTISING MANAGEMENT Advertising simply put is telling and selling the product.Advertising Management though is a complex process of employing various media to sell a product or service. This process begins quite early from the marketing research and encompasses the media campaigns that help sell the product. Without an effective advertising management process in place, the media campaigns are not that fruitful and the whole marketing process goes for a toss. Hence, companies that believe in an effective advertising management process are always a step ahead in terms of selling their goods and services. As mentioned above, advertising management begins from the market research phase. At this point, the data produced by marketing research is used to identify what types of advertising would be adequate for the specific product. Gone are the days when there was only print and television advertising was available to the manufacturers. These days apart from print and television, radio, mobile, and Internet are also available as advertising media. Advertising management process in fact helps in defining the outline of the media campaign and in deciding which type of advertising would be used before the launch of the product. If you wish to make the advertising effective, always remember to include it from the market research time. Market research will help to identify the niche segment of the population to which the product or service has to be targeted from a large population...

The Talent Code Notes

...The Talent Code – Greatness Isn’t Born. It’s Grown. Here’s How Introduction – The Girl Who Did a Month’s Worth of Practice in Six Minutes: * Media coverage tends to treat each hotbed as a singular phenomenon, but in truth they are all part of a larger and older pattern * Consider the artists of the Italian Renaissance, during which the city of Florence (population 70,000) suddenly produced an explosion of geniuses that has never been seen before * The questions echo – where does this extraordinary talent come from? How does it grow? * Clarissa, part of a study by music psychologists that tracked her progress at the clarinet for several years * Based on her aptitude tests and the testimony of her teacher, parents and her self, she possessed no music gifts * Good musical ear, but her motivation was below average * In the study’s written section, she responded “because I’m supposed to” as her reason for practicing * Nonetheless, she had become famous in music-science circles * Since on an average morning, the camera would capture this average kid doing something un-average, in 5 minutes and 40 seconds, she accelerated her learning speed by 10x and she didn’t even notice * Her music sounded pretty bad, common sense would lead us to believe that Clarissa is failing, but this would be wrong * She has a blueprint in her mind that she’s constantly comparing herself too, she’s not ignoring errors, she’s hearing...

...SHORT STORY COLLECTION Historical Short Stories… © Copyright, Peter Stone, 2010 www.inscribedinstone.blogspot.com Dreams Forsaken ―So why am I here, exactly?‖ queried my nineteen-year-old niece as she sat next to me. The lantern I had placed beside us cast flickering light throughout the abandoned tannery‘s darkened interior. Eerie, dust-laden cobwebs clung to every wooden beam, workbench and table, causing her to shudder. I glanced at her innocent face untouched by grief, and wished yet again that I had been born in her day rather than mine. ―For emotional support.‖ ―Then I‘m not in any danger, Aunt Margryte?‖ she asked unsurely. ―Of course not, Geruscha,‖ I said while smoothing down a ruffle in my threadbare black mourning dress. ―Do you know who owns this place?‖ ―I used to. Well, I guess I still do.‖ Memories of better days from decades past superimposed themselves over broken chairs and dilapidated benches. I bit my lip to keep deep inner pain at bay. ―So why don‘t you sell it? Seems structurally intact; surely there‘s a tanner who would buy it from you?‖ ―You ask a lot of questions, Geruscha,‖ I protested. ―You did ask me to come tonight,‖ she pouted. ―So I did. I keep this place because it suits my purposes on the odd occasion, such as tonight,‖ I answered after a moment. Geruscha‘s next question died on her lips when the front door swept open to admit a badly scarred man dressed in the garb of a common mercenary. I laid a hand on her forearm to reassure her. Aged...
