Since the summer of my eighth grade year, I have worked at the Hampton Aquatic Center. On my first day of work, I could never imagine how much the next 4 years would affect my life. A responsibility I never guessed would be so difficult was dealing with patrons. Young or old, injured or mischievous, there was always something to do. I also find myself busy as the Student Body President. A role I find myself constantly thrown into is problem solver. A trait I have really developed at my job as a lifeguard is communication. Patrons often voice complains about different things at the pool, so I would have to talk with them and handle their complaints. I had a hard time with calming people down when they were angry or hurt, but now with years

Lifeguard Research Paper

...As a lifeguard, I have learned that it’s important to be alert to prevent injuries like slipping on the pool deck or hitting one’s head in the shallow end. On two separate occasions within one week, I conducted two rescues: one involving an eight-year-old girl; and the other, a little boy. Both times, when I saw signs of each swimmer struggle under water, I blew my whistle to clear the pool, jumped in, and performed the proper rescue.   As a senior guard at the Robin Road Pool in Hillsborough, I was responsible for organizing rescue drills for myself and for my coworkers. We are CPR certified in case we need to respond to more serious issues like cardiac arrest, near-drowning experiences or choking. I have always gravitated to science, especially with my interests in human behavior, the mind, and how the complex machinery within the human body works cohesively. My experiences as a lifeguard have introduced me to how quickly an event can cause the entire system to fail, and how important it is to remain alert for any...

Ocean Lifeguard Research Paper

...In waters from fifty to sixty degrees an average human-being can endure up to one and a half hours before succumbing to mental and physical exhaustion, or unconsciousness due to hypothermia. In fifty two degree water, I lasted three and a half hours to become an Ocean Lifeguard. The course preceding this daunting test was the most time consuming and demanding experience I have ever had. In the eight weeks of April and May the Town of Southampton Ocean Lifeguard course required me to drive one to two and a half hours a day to Long Island. Six of these weeks consisted of swimming, simulating the practical aspects of the job, and learning how to execute the proper rescues. Yes, this period was time consuming and required attentiveness, but it...

This Barbie dolls have been made to look like the ideal women with their thin bodies and their perfect faces. Some research has shown that young girls, especially girls from ages five to seven, who play with this Barbie dolls have had body image problems. As Helga Dittmar, Emma Halliwell and Suzanne Ive state in their article " girls from age 5 1/2 to age 6 1/2 years old, that [were exposed to a] Barbie doll [were] significantly depressed [with their] overall body esteem and had discrepancies between [their] actual and ideal body size". In another article, Tara L. Kuther and Erin McDonald wrote that “Barbie dolls are pervasive within [a] girls’ experience and may influence their developing self-concept”. In this following experiment, we’re going to find out if Barbie dolls really do influence the way little girls think of how a women should be. For this experiment we will use twenty little girls from ages five to seven because that's around the age range when little girls start and stop playing with Barbie dolls. These girls would be Americans that come from middle class families who have never played with a Barbie before. We will pick ten random girls to go into a room with the Barbie dolls, the Barbie dolls accessories and the dream house and...

Of course, you may adjust it as you feel is necessary according to the level of students you are working with. This project explains in detail everything they need to research, as well as, giving them real world insight into what to expect in a career in terms of education, job duties and responsibilities and income. Motivation

...solutions-focused research article presents valuable information for the senior HR leader seeking competitive advantage. ********** Introduction In today's marketplace, where companies seek a competitive edge, motivation is key for talent retention and performance. No matter the economic environment, the goal is to create a workplace that is engaging and motivating, where employees want to stay, grow and contribute their knowledge, experience and expertise. Motivation is generally defined as the psychological forces that determine the direction of a person's level of effort, as well as a person's persistence in the face of obstacles. The direction of a person's behavior refers to the many possible actions that a person could engage in, while persistence refers to whether, when faced with roadblocks and obstacles, an individual keeps trying or gives up. (1) The responsibility for motivation is three-fold: it falls on the senior leadership, the direct manager and the employee. Numerous factors are involved, from trust, engagement and values (individual and organizational) to job satisfaction, achievement, acknowledgement and rewards. Motivation is essential for working autonomously, as well as for collaboration and effective teamwork. The ultimate focus of the organization is to successfully retain talent, meet goals and go beyond expectations. It is the role of HR and organizational leaders to foster an environment for excellence. Through a foundation of research, theory...

Thesis: Starbucks claims that they are very ethical and have won awards for being so ethical. But, are they really as ethical sense day one till present as they claim to be. The question is does Starbucks do all their business from grower to a cup of coffee ethically. I start my paper by telling you, the public; about when Starbucks started business and how many stores around the world they have at this current moment. I will show you how Starbucks tries really hard as a large company to come across to their investors and the public as being an ethical company and how they are fair to all their employees and the farmers that grow their coffee beans. I will show you how they are unethical in the way they treat their farmers. I will also show you how they became known as unethical by the way they treated their unionized workers in Chile. This unfair pay that the Chilean workers were receiving was not a fair wage. Starbucks workers in Chile went on strike and Starbucks hired nonunion workers to replace them which were unethical and Starbucks...
