When this world comes crashing and time flies right past us love only lasts if my heart races on. “My Heart Races On” is a song that has much meaning. I personally feel like this song relates to me. In this song Lil’ Wayne, a New Orleans native, says “Reality bit me and continued to bite me.” This really speaks to me due to the fact that reality strikes and never leaves after that. It gets worse and worse as it comes. It doesn’t seem constant, it seems as if it comes in spurts. It is a curse but also a blessing once begin how to deal with it.
In the song, Wayne goes on to say, “Got no degree but where I'm from, that's the original climate.” He is talking about not having a college degree, but neither does everybody else around him,

Lil Wayne Folk Artist

...Lil Wayne Folk Artist According to Josh Tyrangiel, a writer for Time Magazine, “ Lil Wayne has a smoke-scarred rasp that makes him sound like Redd Foxx covering Bob Dylan.” I completely agree with Josh in comparing lil wayne with the iconic figure Bob Dylan. Bob Dylan is a common favorite. No one looks askance or questions me when I name Dylan as one of my two favorite musical artists. However, when i mention lil wayne to my friends, I often find myself facing a mouth agape, a scowl, or an expression disbelief: “thats a joke, right?” Even those who accept my declaration of favor for Lil wayne often come back with, “Dylan and Lil Wayne? Thats an odd combination”. But it is not odd; not at all. First of all, they’re both superb lyricists, each with his own distinctive style. Secondly, both Lil Wayne and Bob Dylan are frequently charged with being opaque, non sequiturian, disingenuous, abstruse, silly, banal, indulgent and nonsensical. Both are accused of stealing lines, not just because people seek to tear down those at the top, but also because both are engaged in the folk tradition. Finally, they both have similar flows. Musically speaking, both Dylan and Lil Wayne use existing songs as scaffoldings on which to construct their own. Dylan draws from country, blues, bluegrass, folk, and early rock music, sometimes taking melody, harmony, rhythm and even many of the lyrics from an existing song and putting his own spin on it, inserting his own lines. Running Out of Time

...album went backwards to when famous rappers like Biggie used to rap same style and it made other rappers resort to go back to this style. Tha Carter Three also accomplished the feat of becoming the fastest album to sell one million copies people from age groups of teenagers to young adults in college were listening to this album and listening to what most reviews of this album are calling it a master piece. One point people try to make about this album is the meaning behind the lyrics these lyrics in these songs mean a lot more then just words. This album also changed the way people viewed music because this album introduced songs that did not talk about killing people or just being rich or how many drugs or girls the artist Lil Wayne gets it talks about his life and talks about how he is the greatest rapper alive and does not let the people deny him of that. The style of music in those days was which rapper gets the most girls, which rapper has the most money, which rapper has the biggest house, and best cars. Lil Wayne when writing Tha Carter Three wanted to change that and write about his life and real problems he faced and why he is the best rapper alive. For instance in the song “3 Peat” he says “they can not stop me even if they stopped me”. This statement is implying that even if they stop him he will still prevail and show them why he is the best and people get inspired by this because it also saying he never gives up and that is what people like to...

Drake

...Toronto, Ontario, who records under Drake. He is a Canadian recording artist, rapper, and songwriter. Drake started off playing Jimmy Brooks on the television series Degrassi. After that career was done he later rose as a rapper, after releasing a couple of mixtapes before signing with Young Money Entertainment (Kellman). For one Drake is one of my all time favorite music artists. He motivates me and puts me in a positive attitude with his original lyrics. The song “Successful” in the album So Far Gone and Ready sticks out as one of my favorite songs record by Drake. He pushes past the dilemmas in his life and all the dislike everybody throws at him but still does what he wants to do. Compared to other rappers, Drake has by far the most meaning in every song he produces. Drake has a music style that isn’t like any other; most of his lyricism is in regard to being rich and famous and also past relationships with strippers. “Drake's sound is labeled as "soft" for his genuine, forgiving lyrics and expressive melody.” (Lester). What is another thing that sets him apart from the rest is he has a wide vocabulary in his rhymes that he produces; you can tell that he is very high educated. From the album Take Care I can sing every song on that album because you can understand Drake when he raps. “Drake has a unique musical style that has set him apart from his Young Money counterparts, especially in his latest effort album “Take Care” (Markman). Drake wouldn’t of made it his far in...

Hip Hop Essay

...Arjun Vyas Professor Ron Westray MUSI 2520B January 10th 2012 Hip-Hop has been and will continue to be one of the most powerful cultural movements of the modern world. It is best acknowledged for its influence on the music industry. Before hip-hop developed publicly, it was a local marvel that had blown out generally in underprivileged areas all over New York City. Ever since then Hip-Hop has been able to influence people to act differently. The popularity of Hip-Hop has been subjugated by business individuals to create profit. Of all the performers on MTV, rappers receive the most attention for their ability to extend their ability to express their views in bold manners. Hip-hop has developed significantly since the end of the 1980’s when it was considered to be the CNN for black youth by Chuck D. It was inevitable for Hip-Hop to arise from the underground sound and become more commercialized at one point or another. However, whether this movement was a negative or positive phenomenon is argued about by many. Commercialization is usually the application of business in order to profit or to exploit. This method has remained one of the objectives of people in the hip-hop culture. Hip-hop gives people the opportunity to show their talent of rapping, break-dancing, DJing and graffiti to earn money and live what was considered an ideal lifestyle. The culture of Hip-Hop is entering the mainstream via the use of music and proper publicizing. A few people make it and become...

Hip Hop Today

...When Nas created the phrase "Hip Hop is dead" it caused a discrepancy in the Hip hop community. Southern style artists such as Ludacris and Lil Wayne felt as if that was a direct insult to the music that they were making. But what many failed to realize was that Nas has achieved a great deal in his career, which made others artists work harder to compete. When you think of Hip Hop a few artists probably come to mind – Wale, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Drake, etc. When you hear them rap it is as if the beat was made to fit their flow instead of the other way around. Jay-Z once said that “once you hear a beat you must find your place in that beat”. In my opinion certain artists have perfected the pocket presence inside of a beat such as Kanye West, B.o.B. to name a few. Many of them hold the “southern ring tone music movement” which is said to be responsible for the Death of Hip hop. This movement was led by artist such as Soulja Boy, D4L, and New boys because their nursery rhymes lyrics have no meaning and its only purpose is to get the youth to the dance floor. Auto-Tune also threw the rap world into frenzy while artist like T-Pain mastered the craft others have totally massacred it. Once again Jay-Z came to the rescue with his single Death of Auto-tune and ended this well over-due phase in Hip Hop. As far as the current state of Hip Hop, it is on the rise again with the release of The Carter IV, G.o.o.d Kid M.a.a.d City and 2.0. Conscious rappers are taking the art back. I believe...

It is an expression of one's feelings through instrumental and vocal sounds. Music gives a mean to express themselves in a language that is felt by everyone. It represents one's culture, feelings, and even passion for something. Music in my life although started with the feelings aspect to it, was started by the rap artist Lil Wayne’s. His music enabled me to go beyond the horizon and really open my eyes to music and the story that lies beyond the words. Music and life run parallel, music affects my life in many ways. My given mood explains my choice of music. When I was younger I used to listen to a lot of rap and hip-hop music. Don’t get me wrong, I still do today, but I have learned to enjoy other styles of different natures of music. I can remember when I was about thirteen years old and in middle school, I was at a school dance and the DJ played the song “Get Low” by Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz. Once I heard that song I remember suddenly feeling an urge to dance. It was at that moment I started to notice music and the impact it would later have on my life growing up. After that dance I started to listen to music more and more, then I started to really get into watching MTV every day before walking to my bus stop. Music started to become so big and important to me that I would do just about everything while listening to music...

Inked Inches

...INKED INCHES. While tattoo art might be a new fad in Kenya with celebrities, it is along established tradition in the west, dating back to the birth of rock and roll. Tattoos gained notoriety as an entertainment accessory in the early fifties. Soon it spread across mainstream entertainment and now, every celebrity has the brains to try out one as soon as fame comes calling. Tattooing is an act that has been around close to 5000 years with the origin believed to have been in ancient Greek. Spies used it to communicate. Although I personally would stick to the theory that they originated from ancient Romans who used it to idolize their gods. Mind u, that’s my perspective which you are free to oppose. While others are effeminate enough to remain tame, others go the gothic and unchartered path to reign in on a cultic following and controversy. The eye of Baphomet is one such tattoo causing controversy- a one eye and gloved hands covering it. its is spotted on among others Rihanna, jay z, David Bekham and is believed to be associated with cultic forces. By now everyone is aware of the illuminati. Rock star Marilyn Manson, known for his MTV hit-antichrist superstar in the 80s created a storm when he unveiled a tattoo of the red devil complete with crowned horns and framed inside a flame decorated horseshoe with a triple-six of tumbling dice below in. with this he famously quipped ‘it’s the devil and 666’. Parents went in fits as the youth went wild. Its was once reported that...

Place I Feel Most Comfortable

...The place where I feel most perfectly content would have to be the gym. Going to the gym and exercising is the best decision I’ve made in my life. I started 3 years ago as a kid with horrible self-esteem and zero self-confidence. I would walk with my head down and never give myself any credit for anything I did. Three years later of hard work and dedication in the gym has made me a completely different person. It has given me so much more self-confidence and a different look on life. I was very intrigued by fitness from the start. I would come home and read articles online about how to better myself in the gym for countless hours on end. I became knowledgeable about exercise and nutrition very quickly and would constantly be approached by complete strangers in the gym with questions regarding these topics. I was astonished that I went from a kid that was extremely ignorant of anything to do with exercise or nutrition to someone that others trusted asking their fitness questions to. This is when I realized my importance to others while in the gym was much higher than it was anywhere else. While in the gym I was somebody others looked up to and not just someone who was over looked like I was used to. I feel joy and excitement when others tell me they want to look like myself or ask me what my exercise regimen is like. Helping people reach their fitness goals and establishing friendships with them along the way is what I love to do. Watching them experience changes in their body...

What Three Things Motivated Me to Start College?

...What Three Things Motivated Me to Start College? What motivations would have me stepping out of my comfortable safe zone to contemplate textbooks, essays, grades, dreaded exams, and taking on the finical burden of student loans? I always had a vague idea someday, after the kids were grown and I had more free time, I would go back and get the college education I passed up in my youth. Life experiences and the oft times unexpected upheaval it brings, has dramatically brought a different agenda to my motivations and goals. Narrowing down to the strongest point that motivated me to start college is a fairly easy task, it all boils down to the main focus of my life: my family, raising our circumstances and all of our future aspirations. The foremost motivation is by far the largest was the dedication to raising my family. My husband became disabled roughly seven years ago; at that time I was unable to keep our small construction company running. The construction company, our main source of income, was gone and quality of life became vastly different. The struggle to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table for our children was the spur I needed to make the decision to return to college. This became my main motivation. Starting college and seeking out a degree that would provide me the ability to find employment with the ultimate goal of being able to provide a better life for my family. The prospect of a brighter future was appealing. The second motivation is, which...

Connected or Disconnected?

...Carter 1 ! Delaney Carter Mr. Kistler English 1100 Composition 1 7 November 2014 Connected or Disconnected? Technology is always changing and over the years has advanced in some major ways. Not all these ways are necessarily good. Some people believe that technology is helping them, and in many ways it is, but it is also hurting them. Sherry Turkle, a professor at MIT, discusses some of the ways she thinks technology is hurting us in a famous TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) Talk. In this she gives multiple examples of how people are relying or even trusting technology more than other people. It is crazy to think this, but sadly it is so true. In Sherry Turkle’s TED Talk “Connected, but alone?” she uses pathos to persuade the audience that technology is actually disconnecting us instead of bringing us together. Sherry Turkle’s argument is simple. She believes that people think they are getting closer to one another by using technology, but really they have never been more alone. She provides three main pieces of evidence to support this idea. First, we put our attention wherever we want it to be, and she gives the example of people texting or shopping during important meetings or big events. She says that we are hiding from each other in this way. Second, we think we will always be heard if we are constantly texting or posting to social media websites. Finally, we believe we are never alone when we are online. Turkle does not think that we need to turn away from technology...
