CHAPTER 8
Mr. James’ POV
“Dear Dad and Mum,
I know that as my parents, you want the best for me. But at the same time you cannot keep controlling me. It hurts to know that my parents are not concerned about what I have a passion for. I feel like I’m living my life for you and not me and that’s not right. I’ve tried to make you guys understand but you don’t want to. So I’m taking steps I feel are going to help me, even though it’s crazy. I’m leaving. I hope that with time you will see that I’m right and that I deserve to be listened to as well. I might still be a kid, but I know what I want for my life. I can’t tell you or anyone where I’m going because I don’t want anyone to stop me. I need to find my own life. Don’t bother looking for me because I’m long gone. But I might be back, when I find what I’m looking for. I’m sorry to disappoint you.
Pray for me. I love you both.”
By the time I’m done reading this, I’m more furious than I was when I started. How can she be so stupid? Does she even know what she is doing? I got home immediately I received an emergency call from my wife. I had a lot of things running on my mind, but this wasn’t what I expected. I look up to see my wife in tears. She looked so scared. What do I do now? I wasn’t so hard on her. Was I so hard on her? “Are you just going to stand there and do nothing? You caused all of this. I told you to leave her alone. Now see what has happened.” My wife’s voice brings me back. I need to say something. “Look, you can’t just blame me for this.”
“Oh, really? So who do I blame? I knew that girl was up to something and I warned you. But you would just not listen. You were busy wallowing in your sick principles.”
“Hey, I do not have sick principles. And if you knew, why didn’t you stop her?”
“I just didn’t think she will do something this stupid. What do we do now?”
“She’s my only daughter, my only child. I can’t let her go just like that. You said she left her phone?”
“Yes. She did that so we wouldn’t communicate with her.”
“Let me have the phone.” She hands me the phone and I go to her call list. She called a Tracy last and that was yesterday. I decide to call the number. She might know her whereabouts. “What are you doing?” my wife asks. “I’m calling her recent numbers to see if there is any clue.” A voice answers on the second ring. “Hi, this is Vanessa’s dad… No, there’s no problem. I actually wanted to know if Vanessa was with you… Ok. You wouldn’t happen to know about a party she was invited to last night, would you?... Oh. I see. Thanks.” I hang up getting more scared than furious now. What is really happening? I have no idea where she could have gone to. “What did the person say?” “She says Vanessa told her she wasn’t going to make it to the party and she was not there.” I tried the other numbers on the phone and still got nothing. I even went to close relatives asking if they had seen her and still, nothing. I returned home devastated and my wife, broken.

THE GOAL IS TO MANIFEST THIS DIVINE WITHIN, BY CONTROLLING NATURE, EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL. DO THIS EITHER BY WORK, OR WORSHIP, OR PSYCHIC CONTROL, OR PHILOSOPHY, BY ONE, OR MORE, OR ALL OF THESE—AND BE FREE. IS THE WHOLE OF RELIGION. DOCTRINES, OR DOGMAS, OR RITUALS, OR BOOKS, OR TEMPLES, OR FORMS, ARE BUT SECONDARY DETAILS. THIS PREFACE SINCE the dawn of history, various extraordinary phenomena have been recorded as happening amongst human beings. Witnesses are not wanting in modern times to attest the fact of such events, even in societies living under the full blaze of modern science. The vast mass of such evidence is unreliable, as coming from ignorant, superstitious, or fraudulent persons. In many instances the so-called miracles are imitations. But what do they imitate? It is not the sign of a candid and scientific mind to throw overboard anything without proper investigation. Surface scientists, unable to explain the various extraordinary mental phenomena, strive to ignore their very existence. They are, therefore, more culpable than those who think that their prayers are answered by a being, or beings, above the clouds, or than those who believe that their petitions will make such beings change the course of the universe. The latter have the excuse of ignorance, or at least...

Your Invisible Power

...Your Invisible Power Genevieve Behrend ABOUT THE AUTHOR Genevieve Behrend was the only personal student of Thomas Troward the master of "Mental Science." "Your Invisible Power" is a powerful, yet simple and easy guide. This book can teach you how to use the power of visualization and other processes taught by Thomas Troward to transform your life. Behrend says, "We all possess more power and greater possibilities than we realize, and visualizing is one of the greatest of these powers. It brings other possibilities to our observation. When we pause to think for a moment, we realize that for a cosmos to exist at all, it must be the outcome of a cosmic mind." From 1912 to 1914, Genevieve Behrend’s life focused solely on the wisdom and philosophy of Thomas Troward (1847- 1916) who’s influential and compelling ideas provided much of the groundwork to the spiritual philosophy known today as New Thought. As the awareness of “mental science” was taking shape, Troward imparted his personal insight to only one pupil who could perpetuate this knowledge and share it with the world. YOUR INVISIBLE POWER remains Behrend's most powerful and popular work. After her studies with Troward, Behrend began her mission in New York City where she established and ran The School of the Builders until 1925. She then established another school in Los Angeles before touring other major cities throughout North America for the next 35 years as a celebrated lecturer, teacher, and practitioner of "Mental...

Examine the Use David Simpson Makes of Ẑiẑek’s Theoretical Work in His Study 9/11: the Culture of Commemoration.

...Examine the use David Simpson makes of Ẑiẑek’s theoretical work in his study 9/11: The Culture of Commemoration. “The routines of commemorative culture, whether private or public, exist to mediate and accommodate the unbearably dissonant agonies of the survivors into a larger picture that can be metaphysical or national-political and is often both at once.” (Simpson 2) David Simpson’s study 9/11: The Culture of Commemoration published in 2006 focuses on a post-9/11 America wracked by fear and paranoia. The “war against terror” implacably positions the American nation against vengeful messianic Islamist “terrorists” who represent the other, the enemy, and are identifiable en masse as “the culture of terror”. The tragic events of the day known globally as 9/11 shattered any illusion Americans might have had about an ethic of tolerance operating both within and without their borders. But Simpson notes in his introductory arguments that while that day has been represented as a rupture with known reality it had a familiarity about it that can be traced over time to the influence of television and film, and was thus already embedded within American culture as a shocking explosive tragedy waiting to happen. Simpson states unequivocally that it’s time we turned to “those who speak for theory” to guide and lead us towards a new cultural understanding of 9/11, mentioning the Slovenian philosopher and cultural theorist Slavoj Ẑiẑek as part of a respected cohort of theorists: “The...

Interpretation of Dreams

...The Interpretation of Dreams Sigmund Freud (1900) PREFACE TO THE THIRD EDITION Wheras there was a space of nine years between the first and second editions of this book, the need of a third edition was apparent when little more than a year had elapsed. I ought to be gratified by this change; but if I was unwilling previously to attribute the neglect of my work to its small value, I cannot take the interest which is now making its appearance as proof of its quality. The advance of scientific knowledge has not left The Interpretation of Dreams untouched. When I wrote this book in 1899 there was as yet no "sexual theory," and the analysis of the more complicated forms of the psychoneuroses was still in its infancy. The interpretation of dreams was intended as an expedient to facilitate the psychological analysis of the neuroses; but since then a profounder understanding of the neuroses has contributed towards the comprehension of the dream. The doctrine of dream-interpretation itself has evolved in a direction which was insufficiently emphasized in the first edition of this book. From my own experience, and the works of Stekel and other writers, [1] I have since learned to appreciate more accurately the significance of symbolism in dreams (or rather, in unconscious thought). In the course of years, a mass of data has accumulated which demands consideration. I have endeavored to deal with these innovations by interpolations in the text and footnotes. If these additions do...
