Life of Lois Lowry “The worst part of holding the memories is not the pain. It's the loneliness of it. Memories need to be shared.”- Lois Lowry, Quoted from one of her most famous books. Shes an american writer who has published over thirty childrens books. Lois Lowry had a busy childhood, a rocky adult life, and a successful career.
Lois has two other siblings. She was the middle child, one brother ,Jon and one older sister, Helen. She was a child that lived in her own little world of books and great imagination. She was around the age of eight when she knew she wanted to be a writer. Her father was a military officer and dentist so she had lived all over the world. She was born in Hawaii, then moved to New York. Ended up graduating from New York City high school, then spent …show more content…
They traveled around alot as a couple, together they had four children. Two daughters and two sons. Lois finally decided she was going to go back to college to finish her bachelors degree after she raised her family, she went to the Southern Maine University in 1970.In 1977 her and Donald got a divorce, she met a guy named Martin, they were together for a happy thirty years. Martin passed away in spring of 2011, sadly.
Summer to die was published in 1977, this was lowrys first first novel. It was based off her experience of losing her oldest sister, Helen, at a young age. She was also going through her divorce. Lois showed her humorous side by releasing a humerous series of novels including Anastasia Krupnile. Lowry published Autumn Street in 1979. She got alot of inspiration from her own life experiences.
Her career boomed in 1989, her historical novel, Number the Stars was a hit! The books main purpose was about the Nazi take over of Denmark during World War ll. Her hard work on this have paid off, she was rewarded with the Newberry award. In 2002 she came out with a successful childerns book series Gooney Bird
