Psy phenomena and international success
The song Gangnam Style by Psy is considered by some to be a worldwide phenomenon that has influenced global popular culture, and it also topped national music charts in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. According to the news agency Agence France-Presse, the "phenomenal" success of "Gangnam Style" has played a significant role in spreading the Korean Wave to other countries.
As the song continued to attract worldwide media attention, it also led to various broadcasting networks and national newspapers focusing its attention on Korean popular music (K-pop) and other aspects of Korean culture. For example, The Daily Telegraph published an article recommending its readers to try out everything from K-Pop to "K-Cars", "K-Phones" and "K-Cuisine".
After the release of "Gangnam Style", the American talent manager Scooter Braun, who discovered Justin Bieber on YouTube, asked on Twitter "How did I not sign this guy (Psy)"Soon afterwards, it was reported that PSY had left for Los Angeles to meet with representatives of Justin Bieber, to explore collaboration opportunities. On September 3, Braun made a public announcement that was later uploaded onto YouTube, saying that he and PSY have decided to "make some history together. [To] be the first Korean artist to break a big record in the United States." On September 4, it was confirmed that PSY was signed to Braun's Schoolboy Records.
The music video for the song has gone viral and is an Internet meme. Although PSY attributed the song's popularity to YouTube and his fans while at the same time insisted that he is not responsible for the song's success, the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recognized the singer for "increasing the world's interest in Korea" and announced its decision to award PSY with a 4th Class Order of Cultural Merit As the song's popularity continued to rise, it caused the share price of the song's music label YG Entertainment to gain as much as 50%. DI Corporation, whose executive Chairman Park Won-Ho is PSY's father, saw its share price increase by 568.8% within a few months of the song's release despite making a year-over-year loss. Soon, "Gangnam Style" began to attract the attention of several business and political leaders, including UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon who recognized the song as a "force for world peace".
Since September 2012, the dance has been performed by athletes in international competitions. These people include Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao, Uruguayan footballer Edinson Cavani, tennis player Novak Djokovic, and Jamaican cricketer Chris Gayle, who danced "Gangnam Style" twice during the West Indies' match against Ireland and then repeated the act during the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 match against England.
District3 and Rylan Clark, finalists of the British music competition The X Factor, lip-synced and danced to "Gangnam Style" in a promotion. On September 27, Eric Schmidt, the executive chairman of Google was reported to have danced "Gangnam Style" when he visited the company's office in Seoul. Nick Carbone from Time described it as cringe-worthy because "It's the same reason why you'd never want to see your dad planking on top of the family car".
Several Bollywood actors including Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan have danced "Gangnam Style" during the Indian television game show Kaun Banega Crorepati. On November 6, 2012, Katy Perry tweeted a picture of herself dressed in a "Gangnam Style"-inspired outfit consisting of a blue suit, black tie and a pair of sunglasses.
Psy phenomena reflect the complexity of Korean culture and economic miracle. Korea and its culture may be among the most misunderstood because of the two seemingly opposite extremes : a fascinating blend of traditional Confucianism and modern dynamism. While Korea nurtured Confucian traditions, the Korean government pursued a series of five-year economic plans to grow their economy. Specific areas were developed, initially heavy industries such as shipbuilding, then exports (cars, consumer electronics), then research and development (education, science, medicine), and more recently high-tech sectors (microelectronics, chemicals, bioengineering). In addition, the Korean government is supporting hallyu, promoting culture (music, dramas, movies, entertainment shows, food). The first Korean wave (1995-2005) promoted Korea to the world, while the second wave (2006 to present) was an overall expansion. A new milestone has been reached with the Psy phenomena, in line with top designed Hyundai and Kia cars, award-winning services such as Asiana and Korean Air, or Korean education with leading schools and universities. Korea has entered the third wave where “Koreanism” is now going mainstream: Westerners and Asians alike are dancing “Gangnam Style,” watching Korean movies and dramas, driving Korean cars, flying on Korean airlines, enjoying Korean food, and studying at Korean schools and universities. After rapid industrialization and exports of products, economic modernization has transformed Korea into a leading 21st century high-tech, information technology and service economy.

And why are you still alive?” I ask proceed to ask the president. “It’s nice to see you too, but I faked my death, while I was in office there was a threat from an unknown force from the Comet Galaxy;” the presidents answer to my question. He begins to inform me that he faked his own death and froze himself, because he knew that whatever force was coming to attack the United States would take at least forty years to get here being that they’re all the way from the Comet Galaxy. As we go to exit what was once known as “Ronnie Muscle Meats” it’s now just an abandoned warehouse full of ex-military weapons. I guess the president really had this whole thing planed out; he was ready for a war. All group of his super model bodyguards come rushing into the front doors of the warehouse, and see the president and instantly flock to him like a heard of sheep. All at once and in perfect harmony they say, “President you made it!” Then I asked the president how do they all still look so young the look as if they haven’t aged in these past forty years; he chuckles and says “those are my ex-super model bodyguards daughters. Pew pew pew! , boom!; sounds of laser guns and grenades going off outside of the warehouse. With the craziest look in his eyes the president says to me and the super model bodyguards, “You all better be ready, because...

Brooks sees that sellers will describe the databases in the way of the numbers of printed work that is available in complete written material. But Brooks believes that for evaluation and direct comparing of information is not suffice. He thinks that people that evaluate these things should look at subsets of the numbers to get the complete truth and understanding of the treasure of a good developed database. Brooks shows that two databases created to reach the research needs of an educational group. An example of a question in a database could be “How many of the publications are in complete text?” The database also had a list of the complete texted publications and it tells you how many of the publications that were active and the ones that were peer-reviewed. It also told about the complete text that is continuing being published. The article did speak about embargoes which is a delay in the time the completed...

Mid Century Research Paper

...of its modern, sweeping lines and vibrant colors. You can bring this look to your home by adding a few accent pieces or by investing in furniture. Here are a few ideas. Furniture Pieces When shopping for mid century furniture, the first thing you have to decide is if you want authentic pieces or replicas. If authenticity is important to you, you should shop in antique stores or thrift stores for pieces that were manufactured during the mid 1900s. However, if you just love the look, you can buy new replica pieces at just about any major furniture store. You just have to be careful because some furniture may be labeled as mid century simply because it's a popular buzzword right now. You can buy all kinds of furniture from the era, but some of the most distinctive are the chairs. If you don't want to invest a lot of money, you can modernize your décor by buying a few chairs for the living room and kitchen. The sweeping lines are very noticeable in the designs of...

Short Story

...motionless in a hollow white room. The squeak of the solid steel door brought me to my senses. A husky man in a police uniform walked in. He sat down, his crystal blue eyes burning into me like laser beams. “Do you know why you’re here?” he asked. “No,” I said. “Well, we have it on good authority to suspect your parents of robbing a few convince stores around town. Do you know anything about that?” “No,” I said, expressionless. The officer teetered in his chair, cocked his head, and gave me the look. That stern look that parents give kids when they want to know something. My mother perfected that look, but on him it was pathetic. “There’s nothing to tell!” I shouted, my echo booming off the walls. “My parents didn’t do it. If anything you stole me from them. You’re the criminal!” The officer sighed. “Alright, I’ll tell Mr. Weston to come get you. We’re done for today.” He got up and left the room. A faint buzzing filled my ears. Looking around, the steal rods on the window made me feel like the criminal. I had to get out of here. Mr. Weston walked in the door. He’s the social worker assigned to “look after me.” He’s the one that coaxed me out of the linen closet, after the police broke into my house. “We’re going to take you some place safe,” he’d said. I remember my heart beating against my thighs as I clutched my legs to my chest. Bending down, he extended his hand. I stood up slowly, making plans to get away. Standing straight, blood...

...all but mom stopped me.“No..no…no. You have to wait.Today is very special day. Aunt Lily from China and Aunt Carrie from US will come visit us. Go back up and make yourself look nice.” I sighed and went back up. I picked out a white cocktail dress and put my hair into a braid. I put on a smokey eye, concealer, false lashes with some mascara, light pink blush and some lipstick. When i’m done, i grabbed my phone and headed back downstairs. “You look good. Aunt Lily and Aunt Carrie here already. Go greet her,” mom said. The dining room was filled. The right side of the table was occupied by Aunt Lily’s family. She had 3 kids and 2 of them were twins. The other side of the room was occupied by Aunt Carrie and her husband. I walked and sat next to her. “You’ve grown up so much! It’s so nice to finally see you again!,” Aunt Carrie said cheerfully. “Nice to see you too,” i said. I hugged her and then turned my face to Aunt Lily. She was trying to put her youngest son to sleep. “Hi Aunt Lily!” “Ah! Mary! Very pretty, very pretty.你现在怎么样了?” (how have you been?) “I’m doing good. What about you?” “我很好” (i’m good) It had been 4 years since i last saw the both of them. Aunt Carrie hardly changed at all. She still had that big smile plastered on her face everywhere she goes. Aunt Lily on the other hand, changed a lot. Her hair which used to be long is now short and in between them laid strands of white and grey hair. Is that what happens when you become a mom? Prom

...Prom Night The ringing of my alarm clock woke me up; I reached for it to make it stop. Still in my bed, I began to stretch a bit. I barely slept the night before, I was to excite for prom. It was already late Thursday morning, the sun was gleaming through my windows and I knew I had a lot to get done. My mom entered my room “It’s prom day!” she squealed. She seemed more excited about my prom than I was. “C’mon get up, you need to get your hair, nails and makeup done!” I got out of bed and began to start my day. While taking a shower, hot water beating against my skin, I planned out my day. Everything seemed perfect, just the way I wanted it to be. Stepping out of my house, I felt the humidity smack me in my face; this wasn’t a good sign at all. I quickly grabbed my phone to check the weather. Eighty-five degrees? I knew there wasn’t anything I could have done to change the weather, I just had to cross my fingers and hoped that my hair wasn’t going to become frizzy My day started out with getting my nails done, then my hair, then my makeup. Being the impatient person that I am, I couldn’t help becoming anxious, I couldn’t wait to get all these things done with. Even though, I did enjoy the feeling of getting pampered. During my preparation for prom, I was so nervous because I didn’t know what to do. The smell of hairspray, nail polish and makeup filled the atmosphere. My hands were shaking and sweating, my heart was beating so fast, and it was like I was running in an Olympics...

The Tell Tale Heart Film to Literature

...When asked, most people would say the book is better than the movie but film brings a clearer image to a story. The Tell Tale Heart is a story about a man who claims he has a disease but implies that because it has not dulled his senses, he cannot be called mad. He also points out his mental disorder actually caused his senses to become more acute. When he claims that he has heard things from heaven and hell, it gives away that his super human sensory is an illusion. He seems insane, he talks about an old man who he loves, but he can’t stand his eye or his heart beat. Before the end of the story he kills the old man. In the film there are characteristics that add to this story. The visualization, since you don’t have to imagine it, gives a greater impact. Film has the ability to add a lot of emphasis that make certain scenes stick out from the rest. This grabs attention. Some elements in film can’t be put into literature, an obvious one is actual sound. There are many different similarities in film and literature adaptions, but film brings unique qualities to a story that literature cannot. Film adaptation provides a physical visual for the events in the story. The film begins with a scene of the killer standing in a dark room while in a straightjacket. It's an erie start for the film. The killer is breathing heavily and opens his eyes slowly. This scene gives evidence that he is mad mentally and emotionally. This also makes it seem like the killer has objective. The killer...
