First of all, Andrea is a divided self in the way that she is indecisive towards her husband and lover. However, when there is a change in pressure, the surface loses its strength, sand and water separate, causing buildings to fall over. Someone stepping on quicksand would start to sink. I am inclined to believe that the usage of this image was chosen not at random. The title gives us a clue that the poem is going to be about the duality of love. Like everything else in the world, love has both positive and negative faces. What appears to be solid and stable might collapse, when one comes closer. The poem „ Sables mouvants“ also examines the themes of the transience of time and sexuality. The repetition of “Demons et merveilles / vents et marees ” expresses the duality of love. One imagines demons as something magical, evil, dark, dangerous, and insidious. The main goal was to find out the influence of romances on students’ academic performance in KIMEP and changes in their GPA depending on age and gender. It was hypothesized that problems in personal relationship result in a poor academic performance of a student. In addition, it was assumed that if there any problems in students’ love relations it will be reflected on their attendance and participation in classes. Moreover positive and negative sides of changes in study progress were examined. In order to achieve relevant data researchers used questionnaire distributed among 30 students of KIMEP. The present research found the following results. 30 people aged from 16 to 25 were asked by means of questionnaire. Table 1 shows that 57% were males and 43% were females. The majority of respondents were BSSPA students (43%), 30% were BSC, 14% BAE students and 10%, BSSIR/PS and only 3% were students of BAIJ program. Table 1. Derfel begins the novel, first Winter King when he was just an orphan child taken by Merlin, a Druid, and in the second novel, Enemy of God, and the last novel Excalibur ends with Derfel well into his adulthood. Derfel develops from a timid child, to a developing man, and then a heroic one. Beginning with Winter King, Derfel Cadarn is only just a child. As odd as it may seem, Derfel’s lovers throughout the two novels are a tremendous developing factor.
