University of Technology, Sydney Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology 49002 Managing Projects Assignment 1 – Research on Lean Project Management Task
Write a research-focused report that investigates and discusses how the principles, theory, processes and tools of Lean Production Delivery Systems (LPDS) can be applied to current project management practices. This is an individual assignment for both Standard and Distance Mode students.

Overview
There are several global trends, particularly rapid rates of change in technological, social, environmental and economic areas, that expose the inherent difficulties in meeting increasingly stringent clients’ needs. Project-based initiatives have been increasingly used as a very good way to deal with rapid rates of change, with a large effort to disseminate project management as a standard way to deliver increasingly sophisticated products. However, the strong emphasis on time, cost and quality may not necessarily ensure that rapid and constantly changing needs can be adequately and comprehensively addressed. Of all the approaches to production management, the theory and principles drawn from Lean Production Delivery Systems (LPDS) seem to be best suited for enhancing project management practices. You will investigate and discuss how the application of lean approaches, such as lean construction, lean manufacturing and lean thinking, to the management of projects and production address these concerns and enhance the value that is delivered to clients while reducing several forms of waste.

Topics
Your investigation and discussion will concentrate on one of the eight topics below: 1. Comparatively assess the advantages and disadvantages of current project management methods and lean production delivery systems (LPDS). 3. Compare methods, processes and tools in current project management approaches and LPDS.

NT1330 Unit 1 Assignment 1

...The first thematic unit was informing because it gave an overview of the history of the LPD position, the tasks that an LPD might have to carry out, and the dynamics/issues within language and literature departments. I enjoyed reading Lord’s (2014) chapters because they are detailed and concrete. The challenge in defining the LPD position on page 5 was more less what I expected since LPDs’ duties will vary according to different institutions. I especially found interesting Kaplan’s (1997) LPD job description, where the duties are divided in six main primary categories, with specific tasks for each category (p. 7). The “fiscal operation of the unit” is a surprising duty since I did not think that an LPD had to develop a budget and be in charge of purchases. These seems demanding tasks, and I think it would be ideal to get some sort of experience in budget management before having to do so on the job. In this case trial and error would not work well....

Unit 4 Assignment 1: Gudger-Garland S.: CUPS

...It is aimed at providing a common printing interface across a local network, masking differences among the printing systems on each computer. I am not sure that such a system is needed in a pure Linux environment, where the standard Berkely LPD provides this functionality, but CUPS does provide interactivity with SMB and Windows printers. CUPS also allows dynamic printer detection and grouping. CUPS can be seen as a replacement for the LPD printing system. It replaces the lpr command with its own and the LPD printer drivers with its own versions. However, CUPS is similar to LPD in that it uses PostScript as its underlying language for page descriptions. Linux (and UNIX) programs don't know the difference between CUPS and...

Importance Of Water In Malaysia

...“lost” per km of water distribution network per day. NRW rate was recorded at a national average of 36.93, 36.63, 36.37 and 36.6 percent of the total water produced in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2013repectively. Regarding this, the estimated financial loss due to non-revenue water is more than 1/3 of revenue collected by water services industry annually. This is another problem that needs careful management. POINTING THE MISTAKES In my understanding of the below figure, there are many mistakes including: 1-The below figure shows that the population of Malaysia in 2006 was 6,470,000 and it seems that to be a mistake, there is also another mistake in the water usage of 226lpd in 2006 and 144 lpd showed the figure as a domestic consumption, and the estimated average domestic use showed that it is 230 lpd and the percentage of the estimated average domestic use 100% may be a mistake (as in the figure). 2-The point of water withdrawal for domestic use in 2002, it makes comparison among the South East Asian countries, so why Selangor is entered in that comparison as it is a state only and also the note that says “Non-domestic consumption has surged and is forecast to go higher” appears to be mistake. 3-In the position of the figure that is written on “The average Malaysian uses 211 liters per capita per day based on 2014 statistics, this comes to 25.32 cubic meters per day” may be a mistake. And also “The World Health Organization recommends water usage of 165 liters per capita per day, or...

Lean Project Management

...2 University of California at Berkeley, Berkeley, CA, USA E-mail: gballard@leanconstruction.org Projects are temporary production systems. When those systems are structured to deliver the product while maximizing value and minimizing waste, they are said to be ‘lean’ projects. Lean project management differs from traditional project management not only in the goals it pursues, but also in the structure of its phases, the relationship between phases and the participants in each phase. This paper presents a model of lean project management and contrasts lean and traditional approaches. Four tools or interventions are presented as illustrations of lean concepts in action. Keywords: construction management, Lean Project Delivery System (LPDS), lean project management, project management, value, waste Les projets sont des systemes de production temporaires.
