The Trap

...The Trap By Kerima Polotan Tavera Elisa who is only 14 years old and her family transferred from Tayug (in Pangasinan) to Cabuyao (in Laguna). She doesn’t like to transfer from another place because she was going to miss her friend Salud who is already 18 years old. Salud is the person, who is there to listen to her difficult feelings about the things that change in her body like the growing of breasts and menstruation. Salud said goodbye and gave a flying kiss without any tears in her eyes the day that Elisa and her family were ready to drive away and go to Cabuyao. Still Elisa and Salud are writing to each other even they are far from each other. Elisa described the location and the type of house she has in Cabuyao and Salud also writing back with a happy heart. The first day that Elisa resumed schooling, she and her father talked to an old principal named Miss Ramos who is very cold at dealing with her. The principal (whom Elisa called a witch in one of her letters to Salud) seems like didn’t understand the pain and mysterious sense of growing that happened inside Elsa’s body. After a while, using an index finger and thumb, the principal led Elisa to Mr. Gabriel’s class and introduced her to the teacher. On that day, Elisa feels something different about the teacher. For her, he is a good man with happy eyes and with a small and thin body. One day, Mr. Gabriel’s class was weeding the ground when an accident happens to Elisa. When she swung her scythe, she accidentally...

Early Education in Calamba and Biñan Summary

...Chapter 2 Childhood Years in Calamba Rizal's childhood was the happiest period of his life. Calamba, the hero's hometown, belonged to the Dominican Order. A few kilometers south of Calamba lies mount Makiling. East of the town is Laguna de Bay. Rizal was a student in the Ateneo de Manila in 1876 when he was 15 years old. When he was fifteen, he wrote the poem entitled In Memory of My Town (Un Recuerdo A Mi Pueblo) Rizal was sickly, underweight, undersized, and frail as a child. He had his own nipa cottage where he played in the day, built by his father. He had an aya (nurse maid) who has a kind old woman and who took care of him and his health. He began birdwatching at the age of 3, observing the culiauan, the maya, the maria capra, the martin, and the pipit. He recited the Angelus prayer daily. Of all his sisters, Jose loved little Concepcion best. She was only a year younger than him, and fell ill and died at the age of 3. The death of his sister was Jose's first grief. Jose and his father went on a pilgrimage to Antipolo on June 6, 1868 so that they could fulfill his mother's vow, which she made when Jose was born. Teodora could not join them on this pilgrimage because she had given birth to Jose's sister Trinidad. After the pilgrimage, Jose went with his father to Manila where they visited his sister Saturnina, who was then a boarding student at La Concordia College in Santa Ana. On "The Story of the Moth," Rizal thought that the creature's death was justified...

Bayaning 3rd World

...Bayaning Third World (2000) Synopsis and Evaluation We are a nation fascinated with Jose Rizal—not just his heroism but also his being a womanizer, his classic hair style and many more. We devour two of his greatest literary works in secondary schools. We celebrate his birth and execution dates. We have countless movies relating to Rizal and his works. We even name our streets (Rizal Avenue, Rizal Province), corporations (RCBC), schools (Rizal High School)and products after him. There’s evena religion devoted to Rizal and his works. Even the most well-knownplace in Laguna is Calamba (Rizal’s hometown), not Santa Cruz which is its capital. Despite being subjected to countless scrutinizes by various historians, how well do we know Rizal? Is it really important to know him adequately since he’s our nation’s symbol to our fight against four centuriesof foreign colonialism? Bayaning Third World, directed by Mike de Leon, is a mockumentary on making a film about Rizal. Lots ofquestions were thrown around and dissected in this feature film that concern Rizal. Have Rizal reallywritten and signed a retraction letter signifying his intention to turn back from his beliefs and re-join theCatholic Church? Did he marry Josephine Bracken? Did he retract so that he can marry JosephineBracken? (There was no civil wedding back then.)These were “discussed” in the film by interviewing various people connected to Rizal for their points of view. Throughout the film, the filmmakers (Ricky Davao...

Transportation System

...Mapua Institute of Technology Muralla St. Intramuros, Manila School of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management Applying Transportation Systems On San Pedro City, Laguna In Partial Requirements for SVM161 Submitted By: Andrada, Michael Sherwin Sillo, Jerome Submitted To: Prof. Elisier Fantillo Introduction History San Pedro became a town on January 18, 1725, when King Charles II of Spain decreed that the town formerly known as "Tabuko" be a separate town from "Kabullaw" (now known as the city of Cabuyao). By virtue of the last will of Philip V of Spain, Rodriguez de Figueroa or "Don Esteban", a group of Augustinian Fathers gained the ownership of the Tunasán Estate. Later on, San Pedro became an hacienda of Colegio de San José, a group of Jesuits friars who took over the property which now is known as "San Pedro Tunasán". "Tunasán" literally means "a place where there is Tunás" (Opuntia tuna), a medicinal plant abundant on shoreline area. During that period, agriculture, fishing, duck raising, fruit trees, sampaguita were the main source of income of its residents. This period was highlighted by the growing tenant/landlord dispute. The tenants of Hacienda San Pedro Tunasán fought for their birthrights over their ancestral lands. This struggle took almost 423 years of unsuccessful resistance to Colegio de San José, and in 1938, the government bought the homesites of the San Pedro Tunasán Hacienda from the Colegio for re-sale...

Study on the Effects of Study Habits

...CHAPTER I THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND Introduction According to Ilda (2011) on her post to the website to Get Real Philippines!, Filipinos in general have the desire to be on a permanent state of euphoria or at least with being supposed to be a happy-go-lucky society no matter what circumstances they are in. Happy-go-lucky is a characteristic of a person in which he is optimistic on things around him, takes things lightly, and often smiles. Often, Filipinos get their smiles while watching television. According to the study of Sigmund Freud, watching television can cause absorption and imaginative involvement, a defense mechanism to escape one’s problems. Many people consider the hour of study, as very important. Student need to develop time management skills. They must realize that there is a time to be in a class, a time to study, time for family, and time to socialize. The critical issue is recognition that there must be an appropriate balance. The more appropriate question is, “How can students study more effectively?” The use of gadgets as phones, video games, computers, text messaging, television, music, ipod, and tablet can all decrease the ability the student to learn. Whatever is going on inside one’s mind is going to affect the study habits of the student. Television is a good tool to receive news and entertainment. However, owning a television causes problems, one of which is how to manage time that must be spent in watching T.V...
