Introduction to Situation
The paper analyzes and summarizes how the automotive industry is impacted by the macro economy. In helping my friend Rick expand his small manufacturing plant that produces parts for the auto industry, I’m going to identify a brief history of the automotive industry, how it impacts the GDP, the unemployment rate, and the inflation rate as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

The supply and demand of the automotive industry as well as the profits derived from the sector are clearly impacting by then macroeconomic policies. The industry’s history demonstrates the trends it follows in the business cycle and how economic indicators have impacted the performance of the industry over the years. The measure of production, interest rates, real GDP, automotive sales and inflation and unemployment are some of the most compelling instruments that can be used to assess the state of the automotive industry.

Business Cycles
The U.S automotive industry saw a steady expansion from its inception until 1978 in which where production reached its all-time peak. The industry showed a small contraction and a quick recovery leading to its peak between 1972 and 1976. In the early 1980 there was a big drop in production units and the industry fell into its first true recession. The industry recovered in the mid 80s peaking in 1988, but never reached its previous high before falling into another recession that lasted from 1990 to 1992 (Smith, 1996). The automotive industry’s production rates have been cycling through different business phases throughout history. In 1999 the automotive industry finally recovered and reached its previous high. Now the automotive industry is again experiencing a recession. Traditionally, during times of expansion the inflation in the economy is

...“Stolling Down Burbon or finding Nemo” Choosing the right Vacation GM 530 Managerial Decision Making Professor: Glen MacDonnell Session/ March 2009 Choosing the right Vacation Summary Creating the perfect vacation spot for our family is very important. With individuals ranging from age 24- to 65 we want everyone to be able to enjoy themselves. Everyone has already agreed the beginning part of May would be the perfect time to take a family vacation. However the family lay divided on where they should spend their time vacationing. Our family has a limited time to take a vacation so it’s important for us to pick a great spot because no one wants to waste time on a vacation that is less than stellar. As a family we would like to enjoy the sun and the sites while keeping in mind each other’s personal preferences for fun. There are so many beautiful places to have fun but some have become increasingly more expensive to vacation at. As a family we have saved enough money to go on a vacation that does not total over 7,000. The family has saved for approximately two years for this vacation. Problem Statement Out immediate family includes my mom and Dad and two sisters and one brother. We all have different views on our idea of fun. My Parents don’t mind staying close by and having fun in a nearby state. However the siblings and I would rather spend time in some place further away so that we can enjoy summer weather and beaches. A variety of places have been thrown up in the air...

Review of Keynesian Economics

...economic developments. On that score, the profession failed catastrophically, revealing fundamental theoretical inadequacies. This intellectual failure has prompted us to launch the Review of Keynesian Economics. At a time of journal proliferation, some may wonder about the need for another journal. We would respond there is a proliferation of journals, but that proliferation is essentially within one intellectual paradigm. As such, it obscures the fact that the range of theoretical inquiry is actually very narrow. A journal devoted to Keynesian economics is therefore needed, both to correct this narrowness and because events have once again confirmed the profound relevance of Keynesian theory. Reflection upon the intellectual history of macroeconomics over the past 75 years can help to understand the current predicament and need for this new journal. That...

Ec478-Assignment-1

...EC478 Instructor: Daniel Rubensen 1. Which macroeconomic questions, issues, problems, or analyses did you identify as potential forecasting projects? Describe and discuss in as much detail as you can.
 2. What do you already know, and what would you need to learn to complete these projects?
 3. How do you see the knowledge and skills you will learn in this course fitting into your long-term educational or career goals? ("It fulfills a degree requirement" is not a satisfactory answer.)
Income inequality is a major macroeconomic issue not only in the United States, but globally as well. In a pew research survey conducted late last year a global median of 60% say that the current and potentially widening gap between rich and poor is of great concern in their country. This concern is slightly higher in developing economies and emerging markets (median of 60% in each), but is also shared by people in developed economies (56%). A main cause for income inequality is blamed on a particular country’s national government’s economic policies. With a remedy being substantially higher taxes on the wealthy to fund programs that help support the poor; otherwise known as income-redistribution. Scenario based counter-factual analysis could be used to determine the efficacy of income-redistribution’s macroeconomic affects on social classes. Perhaps a tied #1 or close second most-pressing macroeconomic issue is the persistent jobless recovery leading us out of the ’07-’09 recession...
