A key argument in support of the Fifteenth Amendment was that it provides protection against racial discrimination in voting, which was a significant victory for African Americans who had been fighting for their right to participate in the political process since before the Civil War. They felt that they deserved equal rights, the same as their white rivals. Having fought for their freedom in the Civil War, they believed that they deserved full citizenship and voting rights as a reward for their services. This victory was crucial for African Americans as it marked a turning point in their fight for equal rights and justice. B. A key argument proposed by the supporters of the Nineteenth Amendment was that women were denied many basic rights granted to their male rivals. Before the passing of the Nineteenth Amendment, women were not allowed to vote. They were also not legally permitted to own property and had no representation in the government. However, with the Nineteenth Amendment, it became illegal to deny the right to vote to any citizen based on their sex. This effectively granted women the right to vote. Obstacles like poll taxes, literacy tests, and other discriminatory state voting laws would keep Black women from voting for another 45 years. A key argument in opposition to the Nineteenth Amendment was that most women did not want to vote. They took care of their homes and children and did not have time to be updated on politics. Some women argued that it is a privilege to be a wife and mother and that they did not want to disrupt the family unit or their place in society. Some men even stated that the interests of men and women are generally the same and that women are not suffering from any injustice and having a vote would not
