As stated by Lewis , p , j. Project Leadership ( 2003 ) There are four different kind of Leadership styles by focusing in 2 important dimensions of leadership behavior – Task behavior and Relatioship behavior. By indicating the “ Strength “ of each dimension simply as high or low, he arrive at four combinations which can be describe as 4 different styles of Leadership as follows :

Directive Leadership: In Directive-leadership style leader are more focus on task itself . Leader will explain what must be done / how to do it / and when must be done with some deadlines. Consultative Leadership : Consultative is where leader are high supportive and high emphasis on task. In consultative leader are directive but in little more supportive way. Here leader will explain what needs to be done / when it has to be done and why it has to be done by offering some supportiveness to the team memebers. Participative Leadership : High supportive but less focus on task. Here leader might say what has to be done but not so much how to do it. Delegative Leadership : Low task and low supportive behavior. Leader will told followers simply what should be done and them left them alone to figure it out how to accompolish it by team members.

There is no such style as the best style when it comes to effective project mangement . It all depends on situation of the project and its followers. In addition to that its ability and willingness of followers to perform a given task. However leader must always express confidence that the goal will be achieved. Leader has to be very supportive and optimistic in a starting phase and through out the phase of the project. If you not certain and confuse than followers will be scare and confuse too to be under your lead or on your team.
