Rizal’s Letter to his countrymen To the Filipinos: The step which I have made or will miss is without doubt, very risky, I need not say that I have given it much thought. I know that almost all are opposed to it. But I also know that non knows what is happening in my heart. I cannot live knowing that many suffer unjust persecutions because of me. I cannot live seeing my brothers and their numerous families persecuted like criminals.

I prefer to face death and I give my life willingly free so many innocent persons from unjust persecutions know that for the moment, the future of my country gravitates in part around me; that once I am dead, may will triumph; and that consequently above all, I have duties of families who suffer and to my age parents whose sighs tugs at my heart.

I know that with my death, I can make them happy and restore them to their country and the peace of their homes. I know nobody else but my parents; but my country has many more sons who can substitute me with advantage .Besides, I would like to make those who deny patriotism see that we know how to die for duty and for convictions.

What matters death if one dies for the thing he loves ,for country, and for those he adores? I know that I would be the only rally point of politics in the Philippines and if I were convinced that my countrymen would utilize my services. I would have probably hesitated to take this step. But there are still others who can take my place and with advantage. Moreover, there are those who find me extra burden and will not utilize my services and force me into inaction.

I have always loved my poor country and I am sure that I’ll love her to the last moment, although men are unjust to me. My future, my life, my joys, all I have sacrificed for her. Whatever happens, I shall die blessing her and desiring for her the dawn of her

...Why Women Are Better Than Men In Doing Administrative Jobs Conclusion; we have different types of researches which show why women are better than men in doing administrative jobs. 1. Numerous studies over the years have provided evidence that women deserve to be board directors. One 2007 study found that boards with significant representation of women have a 66% higher return on invested capital, 53% higher return on equity, and a 42% higher return on sales compared to boards with more men. Another 2009 study discovered that having a female board director slashes a company’s bankruptcy risk by 20%. Other studies have shown that women can yield superior results in other areas of business as well. We recently reported on a study from financial services firm Rothstein Kass showing that female hedge fund managers outperform their male counterparts--by a lot. And yet, women make up just 9% of corporate board membership globally 2. The study, published in the International Journal of Business Governance and Ethics, surveyed 600 board directors (75% of them were male) and found some striking differences between the way men and women make decisions in corporate settings: the men opted to make decisions based on tradition, rules, and regulations, while the women tended to shirk tradition, consider the interests of all stakeholders, cooperate, and be more inquisitive. Jerry Mcgill's Dear Marcus To The Man That Shot Me

...Reading Jerry McGill’s book “Dear Marcus: to the man that shot me” hit me hard. I never thought that there would be a possibility that someone could forever after such a traumatic event. This book made me think about myself and my possibilities of forgiveness. After seeing him in person it gave me inspiration. I didn’t see him as a man with disabilities because he showed that he never let anything get in his way, he showed that even though he was in a wheelchair he was going complete anything he wanted to accomplish. Jerry told about the time when he was a teacher and during that time is when the first edition of his book was out on sale. He never wanted any of his students to see or even hear of that book, but yet one had and they had read....

There's a Man in the Habit of Hitting Me on the Head with an Umbrella

...Analysis “There’s a Man in the Habit of Hitting Me on the Head with an Umbrella” Fernando Sorrentino This story by Fernando Sorrentino is short, sweet, and at first glance, potentially absurd. To picture a man, with no physiological needs, hitting a man on the head for 5 years is absurd. How can something so ludicrous possibly be real, which begs the question is the man with the umbrella actually real, or just a figment of his imagination, or something else entirely? This story begs many questions, most of which are never answered by Sorrentino. It is obvious after reading this, that it is not just a story about a strange man hitting another man over the head with an umbrella. There aren’t many people I know who would grow accustomed to someone constantly hitting them in the head. Early on in life we are told if someone is doing something to piss you off, pretend its not bothering you, and eventually they will admit defeat and leave you alone. Soon after this strange man starts “automatically” and “impassively” hitting this other man on the head, he has to endure a “terrific punch in the face”. Safe to say if he were just hitting him with his umbrella to piss this random stranger off, he had succeeded. But this theory is quashed in the opening paragraph, when the narrator says “it is five years to the day since he began hitting me on the head with his umbrella”. No man would go to such lengths to piss off a random stranger, at least not an ordinary man. Another potential...

There's a Man in the Habit of Hitting Me on the Head with an Umbrella

...Rachel Fang Teacher: Mr.Hitchcox ENG3U October 11th 2015 Fiery Cross Recently, there was a series of homicide case that happened in a rural town, and all the decedents were killed in a variety of cruel means. These incidents that were quite shocking in this town, and the people were too scared to go outside of their homes. Based on detailed cases analysis, the detective Richard, who was well known in Police Department, judged that these cases were more likely to be done by a certain person or a same group, because these series of cases were stupendously similar to each other. All the decedents were surgeons from many hospitals in this town. And all the surgeons were killed through some sharp tools like scalpels, and their corpses were abandoned in the wild field by the murderer. These incidents caused a impact on all the surgeons in this town, and they felt frightened. They did not know if these nightmares would fall upon their heads. The only one point that confused Richard was that all the crime scenes were left in a undisturbed wild field. He wondered if the surgeons who had been killed had appeared obediently followed the murderer to the wild field without a struggle. The more surprising thing was that policemen could not find any trace of wrestling in the crime scenes. Why surgeons did not try any possible way to resist with the murderer? Were they are bewitched by the murderer? Multitudinous questions plagued Richard. When it came to the surgeons...

About Me for My Whole Life and Wish ~ Good Job Man

...Gun is a weapon that can be used to reduce crime or violence, but can be used to perpetuate, violence and crime. It is true that guns do not do true shooting percentage: People do shoot. It is the person who owns the gun and injuries; we should be worried about intentions. The pride of a man with a gun, so that he or she can actually impose his or her will upon others. This aspect is what is dangerous to legalize guns, because guns are in the hands of the wrong people, crime and violence settings. I do not think people should be able to own a firearm possession of a firearm, because it will cause more problems than it solves. It has been proven time and time again to enjoy strict gun laws and low rates of violent crime country. In addition, people who own guns to protect often due to the accidental killing of their friends and family, and the children often have loaded guns, they found that playing at home, accidentally. People say, "When the gun ban only outlaws will have guns," but while in Japan and other countries, criminals have guns, they usually only use them fight among themselves. Ordinary citizens’ gun deaths are extremely rare. There is no reason to have a gun when you have a police force and army. The second revision of the constitution, there is no police force and no standing army. We do not need a second amendment right now. "Constitution" expressly provides that possession of a firearm in the United States is intended to enable the public to form a militia...

Short Story Review - "There's Man in the Habit of Hitting Me on the Head with an Umbrella" by Fernando Sorrentino

...‘There’s a Man in the Habit of Hitting Me on the Head with an Umbrella’ (by Fernando Sorrentino) ? http://www.eastoftheweb.com/short-stories/UBooks/TherMan.shtml What do you think of the story? As I read this short story in the beginning, the gist of what I have captured the narrator writing is whether the man with a strange habit does really exist or not. Or, if he did exist who was the man that was hitting the narrator in the story on the head without stopping. It sticks in my mind wondering who the strange man was to the narrator. Somehow, despite the agony of trying to understand the motive underlies the story; I was at first wondering what was the strange man had gone through actually and somehow I could feel the strange man’s plight humorous. Was it a medical condition that was driving him crazy? It’s rather hard for me to really understand the whole point of the story until it came to the end and after repeating reading it a number of times. Based on the description the narrator described about the man in the story, I assumed that the man is an old man and came from rather an average community. This story has kind of deep meaning. There’s no such thing one real man can be with us all the time without eating, doing nothing except hitting people with an umbrella for the past 5 years uncontrollably no matter how the narrator tried to get rid of that man. From what I could see the narrator is trying to convey messages in a different way and the strange man is being...

48 Yr Old Man Presents to Er Stating My “Left Lower Leg Is Killing Me.”

...48 yr old man presents to ER stating my “left lower leg is killing me.” Patient has been in pain for two days. When asked when the pain started PT states “while I was playing water Volleyball, I felt a pop in my leg, I thought maybe I just strained a muscle but it feels like someone hit me in the back of the leg with a bat, I can’t even walk on my leg.” Upon visual evaluation the leg is swollen and blue in color. Nurse is observing swelling, bruising, and alignment of the two legs. A Thompson test can be used to the severity of the injury. The tender area felt boggy to palpation and a gap was found. Both feet and ankles felt normal, although a non-tender calcaneus was found. The patient had a capillary-refill time of less than two seconds and no neurovascular deficit. The left ankle had normal dorsiflexion and plantar flexion, but there was active resistance on plantar flexion in the right ankle. Passive inversion and eversion movements were normal with no laxity and endpoints were firm. Initial diagnosis was a ruptured Achilles tendon in the right leg and this was confirmed by ultrasonography. Radiography was not indicated. The patient’s case was discussed with an orthopaedic registrar by telephone. The patient’s limb was then placed in equinus cast, in which the ankle is flexed to between 40° and 60°, and plaster of Paris was applied. To ensure the patient’s psychosocial needs were met, and that he had a realistic expectation of rehabilitation and long-term care...

...Dear God, Will You Ever Give Me the Man of My Prayers? On April 23, 2007, I wrote the following in my beloved journal: Dear God, I want a Christian home. I want to raise a Christian family. One that goes to church on Sundays, is involved with the church, and prays together at night. I want a husband. I want a spiritual leader. [pic] Lord, will this ever be true for me? I want that man who prays for me, and I pray for him. I want a man that prays with me. I want a man that takes everyone to church on Sundays. Who’s involved with the kids at church. Who smiles because he’s drunk in love with YOU! Who relies on You. [pic] Lord, will this ever be true for me? I want a man who is unconditional in his ways (love, gifts, kindness, helping hand). Who doesn’t expect things in return – EVER. Who accepts the world as it is and doesn’t let it affect his walk with You. I want a man who wants to change the world. Lord, will this ever be true for me? [pic] I want a man that knows You!!! I want a man that will accept Your blessings even the small ones. A man that makes me feel like he can make a mountain out of a mole hill even if there is no dirt or rock to make one with. I want a man that is positive and understanding. A man that makes me push to be a better person. A man excited about life and looks forward to life after death. A man that has a spot in heaven and will help me in my spiritual journey. Because that’s what life is … a journey of...

Great Expectations

...who married the blacksmith. As I never saw my father or my mother, and never saw any likeness of either of them (for their days were long before the days of photographs), my first fancies regarding what they were like, were unreasonably derived from their tombstones. The shape of the letters on my father's, gave me an odd idea that he was a square, stout, dark man, with curly black hair. From the character and turn of the inscription, "Also Georgiana Wife of the Above," I drew a childish conclusion that my mother was freckled and sickly. To five little stone lozenges, each about a foot and a half long which were arranged in a neat row beside their grave, and were sacred to the memory of five little brothers of mine – who gave up trying to get a living, exceedingly early in that universal struggle – I am indebted for a belief I religiously entertained that they had all been born on their backs with their hands in their trousers- pockets, and had never taken them out in this state of existence. Ours was the marsh country, down by the river, within, as the river wound, twenty miles of the sea. My first most vivid and broad impression of the identity of things, seems to me to have been gained on a memorable raw afternoon towards evening. At such a time I found out for certain, that this bleak place overgrown with nettles was the churchyard; and that Philip Pirrip, late of this parish, and also Georgiana wife of the above, were dead and buried; and that Alexander, Bartholomew, Abraham...

The Right One

...all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? (Jeremiah 17:9). The heart is willful and is driven by its own agenda. It does not consider things rationally and intelligently it just loves to love! Therefore you have to point it in the right direction: "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life" (Proverbs 4:23). Whenever you meet a man, you need to get clearance from God, check out his attributes, and then allow your heart to engage. Dating exists not for mating; it exists for collecting data. I believe that the biblical design would be friendship, courtship and then marriage. Friendship is two people walking together in agreement and accountability, learning and growing together. Courtship follows the mutual agreement to commit to one another exclusively - it is the decisive turning toward the agreed-upon goal of the marriage altar. It is a period of laying a foundation and preparing your life together after marriage. But dating? Well, if you do date, use the time wisely to gather these facts. 1. Check out the fabric. Is the person mate material? Does this man have an intimate relationship with the Father through Jesus Christ? Does he care what God thinks about his behavior? Is he accountable to God as well as another co-laborer in the faith? Accountability is an important factor. It is imperative to maintaining a committed relationship. Is your potential spouse a member of the same family - the family of God? You need to...

That Woman Cried

...Title: That Woman Cried Written by KyuSe7en501 Note: Forgive me if I ain’t good in writing. T_T Twenty- fourth of January a woman appeared before my eyes. She was crying, really, really hard. I didn’t know what to do, I was at a total loss of words. Since then, I started wondering why women cry; are they just fond of crying, or, do they cry for something men don’t understand? As a man myself I want to know the answer. Not that I love to interfere with their sorrows but I just want to have my curiosity get answered. Do they cry for no reason? Some people say women are beyond emotional. They cry because their hearts are soft, they also waste tears because they are partly weak, in comparison with men. I thought those were enough for me to get my mouth closed. I thought those were the best answers for my questions. But then I realized I could discover it myself, and learn things up through women. Months have passed since the day I found that woman crying; I finally got to see her again in a restaurant. She wasn’t crying at all, nor was she sad. She was all smiling --- so beautifully. Her wide smile made my heart filled with wonderfulness; She also had her hair pony tailed which made her long slender neck appear publicly. Those assets were so nice to see that I wanted to talk to her and get to know her better. She was so beautiful like a goddess. Upon my amazement followed the complete sense of surprise. A man, with a child by his side, got an appearance toward the woman,...

He might escape I thought hopefully. He nearly reached the edge of the sidewalk when the man caught up. That was when I knew I had to do something. Something I feared, I needed to not only help the kids escape this evil man, I was forced to be seen by the kids. Even though I was frightened, I knew I couldn’t wait any longer. I would have to help the kids and do it fast. I sprinted out into the open and ran towards Scout and Jem. The man scuffled with Jem and I could tell Jem was trying to avoid the black switchblade that was in the man’s left hand. The man snarled as he tried to jab the knife into Jem’s chest. I reached the two right as the man grabbed Jem’s arm and snapped it behind Jem’s back. The noise made me stop and cup my hands over my ears. Suddenly, I was filled with hatred for this man. How could this man do this to them? Why would he hurt innocent kids? Pumping with adrenaline from my new found hatred for this man, I stabbed the man in the side of his rib cage with my kitchen knife. I never had killed a man before and I never desired to; nevertheless, this was a desperate...
